B. Benzaldehyd oder substituierte Benzal- dehyde verwendet werden, welche die üblichen Sub- stituenten, wie Halogenatome, insbesondere Chlor, niedrigmolekulare Alkyl- oder Alkoxygruppen, wie Methyl-, Äthyl-, Methoxy- oder Äthoxygruppen, ent halten können;
Process for the production of azo dyes The present invention relates to a process for the production of azo dyes of the formula R, - CH = CH-Rz N = NR (1) where R1 is an optionally substituted phenyl radical free of water-solubilizing groups, R, one containing a sulfonic acid group,
optionally further substituted phenylene radical and R denotes a radical derived from an azo component. These are, for example, dis- and polyazo dyes which are obtained from the azo dyes obtained from diazotized 4-amino-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid or diazotized 4-amino-4'-halo-stilbene-2-sulfonic acids and azo components by further linking reactions getting produced.
If they contain a metal complex-forming group, the dyes can be converted into the metal-containing dyes with metal donating agents. An example of such a product is the copper-containing dye of the formula
EMI0001.0028
listed.
The dyestuffs of the formula (1) can, if desired with the use of further linkage reactions, be prepared by coupling diazo compounds with azo components if, here, in the case of compounds of the formula RI-CH =CH-R, NH, (3) in which R1 is a optionally substituted phenyl radicals free from water-solubilizing groups and R, one having a sulfonic acid group,
optionally further substituted phenylene radical, used as diazo components.
The diazo components of the formula (3) used as starting materials can be prepared by condensation of aryl methylnitrobenzenesulfonates, suitably aryl 1-methyl-4-nitrobenzene-3-sulfonates, with aldehydes of the benzene series and subsequent saponification of the ester groups and reduction of the nitro group . For the condensation z.
For example, benzaldehyde or substituted benzaldehyde can be used, which can contain the usual substituents such as halogen atoms, especially chlorine, low molecular weight alkyl or alkoxy groups such as methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy groups;
Accordingly, it is advisable to use amines of the formula as starting materials of the formula (3) in the present process
EMI0001.0066
to be used, where R1 denotes, for example, a phenyl radical which is not further substituted or which is further substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups.
Valuable dis.azo dyes are obtained, for example, according to the present process if a compound of the formula (3) is used as the initial component, a middle component, preferably one of the usual middle components of the benzene or naphthalene series, e.g.
B. one which contains a metal complex-forming group adjacent to the amino group and uses an end component coupling adjacent to an oxy group and, if desired, treats the disazo dyes thus obtained with copper-donating agents.
As middle components come here u. a. Couplable amines of the naphthalene and benzene series into consideration, which have an alkoxy group, preferably a methoxy group, in the position adjacent to the amino group, ie z.
B. 1 amino-2-oxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid, 1-amino-2-methoxy-benzene, 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methyl-benzene, 1-amino-2,5-dimethoxy-benzene . Oxynaphthalenesulfonic acids are advantageously used as end components, and among these are in particular the aminooxynaphthalenesulfonic acids substituted on the nitrogen, eg.
B. the 2-acylamino or 2-arylamino-5-oxy-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acids, or the nitrogen-substituted 1-amino-8-oxy-naphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acids as valuable.
For example, with a compound of the formula (4) as the starting component, an o-aminoalkoxybenzene such as 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methylbenzene and 1-amino-2,5-dimethoxybenzene or 1 -Amino-2-methoxy-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid as the middle component and a 2-arylamino or 2-acylamino-5-oxy-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid such as 2- phenylamino-, 2- (4'-carboxymethoxy-phenylamino) -, 2-benzoylamino or 2- (4'-chloro-benzoylamino)
-5- oxy-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid as the end component to produce disazo dyes, the complex copper compounds of which on cellulose-containing fibers can be obtained by demethylating copper and give dyeings of particularly good lightfastness.
Very valuable dyes, which are characterized above all by the purity of the hue and very good etchability of the dyeings, are obtained if a compound of the formula (3), but preferably one of the formula (4), is diazotized with a 1 -Amino-2-alkoxy-naphthalenesulfonic acid, e.g. B. 1-Amino-2-methoxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid, kup pelt, the aminoazo dye further diazotized and with a 1-acylamino-8-oxy-naphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid such as 1-benzoylamino-8-oxy-naphthalene -3,6-disulfonic acid couples.
Further valuable dyes can be prepared from the diazo components of the formula (3) if the azo components -NH2 used are compounds containing groups, for example the aforementioned middle components of the benzene series; the aminoazo dyes obtainable in this way can be reacted with aminoazo dyes of the same or different types with means of compounds which contain at least two reactive halogen atoms, eg.
B. by means of cyanuric chloride, 2,4-dichloro-quinazoline or phosgene. Valuable dyes are also obtained if two moles of a diazo compound obtainable from an amine of the formula (3) or (4) are mixed with one mole of a compound of the formula
EMI0002.0074
couples, where Y is a bonded to one ss-carbon atom of the naphthalene nuclei, stick material-containing bridge member, such as.
B. denotes a triazine radical or preferably an NH or -NH-CO-NH group. Examples of compounds of the formula (5) are: 8,8'-dioxy-2,2'-dinaphthylamine-6,6'-disulfonic acid, 8,8'-dioxy-2,2'-dinaphthylurea-6 , 6'-disulfonic acid, 5,5'-dioxy-2,2'-dinaphthyl-amino-7,7'-disulfonic acid, 5,5'-dioxy-2,2'-dinaphthyl-urea-7,7'- disulfonic acid.
The reactions to be carried out in the present process can be carried out in a manner known per se and familiar to the person skilled in the art. For example, the couplings with the Mittelkomponen are advantageously carried out in acidic to neutral, those with oxynaphthalenesulfonic acids, which also include the compounds of the formula (5), are advantageously carried out in alkaline medium.
The new dyes corresponding to the composition described above can be used for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials such as wool, silk, leather, but especially cellulosic fibers such as cotton, linen and rayon and rayon made from regenerated cellulose. This gives dyeings which are distinguished by particularly interesting shades and in some cases, especially if the dyes are complex copper compounds, by surprisingly good fastness properties.
If the dyes contain metal complex-forming groups and have not already been metallized in substance, they can also be treated by methods known per se on the fiber or in the dye bath with metal-releasing, in particular copper-releasing agents. This type of metallization is particularly advisable when the dyes contain only a few solubilizing groups and their metal complexes are therefore too insoluble for dyeing by the usual direct dyeing processes.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 27.5 parts of 4-amino-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid are dissolved in 300 parts of water with the addition of 5.5 parts of sodium carbonate, 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite are added and 30 parts of 30% aiger hydrochloric acid acidified.
The mixture is stirred for one hour at 100 and the diazo compound is coupled with 21.7 parts of 1-amino-2-methoxy-benzene-co-methanesulfonic acid in the presence of sodium acetate. To split off the methanesulfonic acid residue, the coupling mixture is heated to 950 for 1 to 2 hours with dilute sodium hydroxide solution and the aminoazo dye is isolated by salting out and filtering.
This is further diazotized at 400 and coupled in a soda-alkaline solution with 39.5 parts of 2-phenylamino-8-oxy-naphthalene-6,3'-disulfonic acid, the coupling being promoted by the addition of pyridine.
The dye obtained is converted into the copper complex by heating for several hours at 900 with an ammoniacal copper sulfate solution (corresponding to 25 parts of CuSO4 # 5H.0) in the presence of 10 parts of ethanolamine, which dyes cotton in light-fast gray tones.
The 4-amino-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid can be prepared as follows: 15 parts of 1-methyl-4-nitro-benzene-2-sulfonic acid phenyl ester and 5.8 parts of benzaldehyde are dissolved with 0.5 part of piperidine over the course of one hour 135 to 1450 heated. With vigorous elimination of water, the initially liquid reaction mixture solidifies to a yellow, crystalline mass of phenyl 4-nitrostilbene-2-sulfonate. After recrystallization from glacial acetic acid, the product melts at 1470. The yield is about 16 parts.
15.2 parts of this ester are suspended in 320 parts of 95% ethanol and heated to the boil. A solution of 3.2 parts of sodium hydroxide in 8 parts of water is then added dropwise over the course of an hour and the mixture is refluxed for 1 to 2 hours until a sample is soluble in water. It is allowed to cool while stirring and dried. The sodium salt of the sulfonic acid obtained forms yellow crystals which dissolve well in hot water.
The 4-nitro-stilbene-2-sulphonic acid obtained in this way is then reduced with iron to give 4-aminostilbene-2-sulphonic acid by the known Bechamp method.
Example 2 31 parts of 4-amino-4'-chloro-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid are dissolved in 250 parts of water with the addition of 5.5 parts of sodium carbonate, treated with 30 parts of 30% strength hydrochloric acid and mixed with 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite in 50 parts of water are diazotized. A hydrochloric acid solution of 15.3 parts of 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methyl-benzene is added to the diazo compound.
The monoazo dye is formed by adding sodium acetate until the kongoneu neutral reaction and stirring overnight. The deposited dye is filtered off.
The moist dye cake is dissolved in 1000 parts of water with the addition of sodium hydroxide, 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite in 50 parts of water are added and 40 parts of 30% strength hydrochloric acid are collapsed at 20 to 300 parts with thorough stirring. The diazotization is complete in 2 to 3 hours.
The diazo compound is then added to a solution of 35 parts of 2-benzoylamino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid, 200 parts of water, 40 parts of sodium carbonate and 20 parts of pyridine and the mixture is stirred for 10 to 12 hours.
After coupling has ended, the disazo dye is salted out, filtered and refluxed for 5 hours with 25 parts of crystallized copper sulfate, 50 parts of 25% ammonia and 20 parts of ethanolamine in 2000 parts of water for the purpose of transferring it to the copper complex.
The dyestuff deposited with sodium chloride is filtered off and dried. It forms a dark powder and dyes cotton in gray-blue shades of very good lightfastness.
Example 3 27.5 parts of 4-amino-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid are diazotized. A hydrochloric acid solution of 13.7 parts of 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methylbenzene is added to the diazo compound. The dye is formed by adding sodium acetate until a Congo-neutral reaction and stirring overnight.
The separated dye is filtered off. Example 4 31 parts of 4-amino-4'-chloro-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid are diazotized according to the information in Example 1 at 0 to 50, and the diazo compound with 25 parts of 5.5'- Dioxy-2,2'-dinaphthylurea-7,7'-disulfonic acid, dissolved as the sodium salt with 30 parts of sodium carbonate in 1000 parts of water, united. After stirring for about twelve hours, the dye formed is precipitated by adding sodium chloride, filtered and dried.
It forms a dark powder that dyes cotton in pure bluish red tones. The colorations can be easily etched.
With the appropriate amount of 4-amino-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid as the starting component, a very similar dye is obtained.
Dyeing instructions In a dyebath which contains 1 part of the copper-containing dye obtainable according to Example 1 in 3000 parts of water, 100 parts of cotton are added at 400 and the dyeing is carried out for one hour while increasing the temperature to 900 30 parts of crystallized sodium sulfate are added and the dyeing is carried out for a further half hour at 90 to 950. The cotton is then rinsed and finished as usual. It is colored gray and the coloring is characterized by very good light fastness.
