Machine for preparing an infusion, in particular coffee The present invention relates to a machine in which pressurized water passes through a filter containing the substance to be infused, for example coffee powder.
The machine which is the subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that inside the boiler is arranged a water metering tube closed at its ends and inside which ends a pipe of smaller diameter which starts from a closing and switching tap, to which the water from the boiler arrives via another pipe.
The dosing tube has a capacity corresponding to that of a cup. This tube is in communication by means of a pipe of smaller diameter, with a multi-way valve which allows the water contained in the boiler to communicate with the interior of the metering tube which contains air. .
By operating the tap, said communication can be cut off and the inside of the metering tube communicates with the filter which contains the coffee powder. In this way, an infusion is obtained without allowing steam to escape under pressure.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention; in this case it is a so-called coffee machine.
The device comprises a metering tube 1 with a capacity corresponding to that of a cup of coffee, this tube is housed inside the boiler 2. It is in communication via a pipe 3 of smaller diameter with a tap 4, controlled by a lever 6, which communicates with a pipe 5, the other end of which is located below the minimum water level of the boiler 2 brought to a pressure of 1.5 atmospheres. The body 9 of the valve has the orifices 7 and 8 communicating respectively with these pipes 5 and 3 and also the conduit 13 which puts in communication with the atmosphere.
The index 12 designates the filter holder, the index 11 a central outlet for the coffee infusion, the index 10 designates the filter.
The operation of the assembly is as follows when the lever 6 is in the vertical position, the water contained in the boiler 2 passes, through the tube 5, into the body 9 and as the orifices 7 and 8 communicate, it passes through tube 3 and fills metering tube 1 by compressing the air contained therein, up to the pressure existing in the boiler.
By placing the lever 6 in the horizontal position, the orifice 7 is closed, thus interrupting the communication between the boiler 2 and the metering tube 1, and simultaneously the metering tube 1, by means of the pipe 3, is made to communicate with the small container 10 which is that which contains the coffee powder or the product with which to infuse. The liquid, pushed by the compressed air, comes out through the central orifice 11 of the filter holder 12 and falls into the cup.
The metering tube 1, in the example given, has precisely the capacity of a cup of coffee, so that, once this is full, the metering tube 1 remains completely empty of liquid, but filled with air at atmospheric pressure.
After having obtained the infusion, it suffices to return the lever 6 to its normal position. The dosing tube 1 then automatically fills with pressurized water and the machine is ready to deliver another cup of coffee.
When the lever 6 is vertical, the interior of the small receptacle is in communication with the atmosphere, and the filter holder 12 can then be removed without any danger of burning oneself.
The end of the pipe 5 is still immersed in the water of the boiler, the steam does not intervene and this is why we can say that the body 9 of the tap is without steam.
