The present invention relates to a crimping device for ball points, comprising a support intended to be driven in rotation with respect to the crimping point and carrying at least three rollers whose axes of rotation intersect the axis of the support, at least two of these rollers being tines to come to bear against the edge of the point to be pushed back around the ball.
In general, the operation of crimping the ball in its housing is carried out in several successive phases, using for each phase a wise crimping device, the axes of the rolls of which form a different angle with respect to that of the tool. crimp used in the previous or next phase. According to the usual crimping process, several different crimping tools must therefore be used for the different successive crimping angles.
The present invention aims to simplify .opé rations crimping ball tips, while allowing to perform the crimping in a single phase with one and the same device. This crimping device according to the invention is characterized in that at least one of the rollers is arranged so that its axis intersects the axis of the support at an angle different from those formed by the axes of the other rolls. with the axis of said support.
The appended drawing shows, schematically and by way of example, several embodiments of the crimping device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows an elevational view of the first embodiment of this device.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view with partial section of the second embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a section along III-III of FIG. 2. Figs. 4 and 5 are elevational views of two other embodiments. The crimping device for ball points, shown in the accompanying drawing comprises a support 1 mounted to rotate relative to the ball point 2 to be crimped, in general, this support 1 is itself carried by a rotary mandrel,
the ball point 2 being fixed on a rotating plate of a machine tool.
At the end of the rotary support 1 are fixed, in general, three rollers 3, 4 and 5 offset by 120, but represented by two rollers at 180 for ease of understanding. In the example shown, these rollers are held at the end of the rotary support 1 by means of screws 6, screwed into threaded bores formed in the support 1. These screws 6 can themselves constitute the axes of rotation of the rollers. 3 to 5. However, it is also possible to interpose between each screw 6 and its horn roller, laying a ball bearing or an anti-friction pad, for example.
In the example shown in FIG. 1, the axes of the three rollers 3, 4 and 5 all three intersect the axis 8 at a different angle. In this way, three successive crimping surfaces 11, 12 and 13. are obtained on tip 2.
It will be understood without further from the foregoing that the device shown in FIG. 1 makes it possible to carry out in a single phase the crimping which it is necessary to carry out in three successive phases with the devices of usual construction.
Figs. 2 and 3 show the second embodiment of the crimping device in which each roller 3, 4 and 5 is carried by a part 14 in the form of a rod, mounted removably and interchangeably in the rotary support 1. For this purpose, the support 1 has three bores 15 formed parallel to the axis of rotation 8 of the support 1.
Tapped holes 16 are drilled radially in the support 1 and locking screws 17 are engaged in these holes 16 to allow the corresponding rod 14 supporting one of the rollers 3, 4 to be fixed in position. or 5.
Due to the removability of the mounting of each rod 14 in its respective bore 15, it is possible to mount as desired in the support 1 rods 14 carrying rollers 3 , 4 or 5 at a different angle to each other. In addition, the axial position of the rods 14 can be adjusted as desired in the support 1.
Fig. 4 shows another embodiment of the crimping device in which the axis 7 of one 3 of the rollers 3, 4 and 5 is arranged so that this roller 3 bears on the ball 18, so as to cause a movement of the latter in its housing during the crimping operation caused by the other rollers 4 and 5.
The movement given to the ball 18 by the roller 3 makes it possible to prevent the latter from jamming in its housing while giving the ball 18 a determined play on his seat. It should be noted that the rollers 4 and 5 of this embodiment are themselves arranged at different angles to cause the crimping of the tip 2 in two zones 12 and 13.
Fig. 5 shows the constructive embodiment of the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, in which it can be seen that a cage 19 is engaged around the rotary support 1 carrying the rollers 3, 4 and 5.
This cage has at its lower part a hole 20 serving to guide the ball point 2 during the crimping operation. Preferably, this cage 19 is independent in rotation of the support 1.
Many variant embodiments of the crimping device described above could be imagined. Thus, only one of the rollers 3, 4 or 5 could be arranged at an angle different from the other two with respect to the axis of rotation 8 of the support 1. However, in other embodiments, it is possible to provide the support 1 of more than three crimping rollers, arranged at different angles with respect to the support 1.
By way of example, it may be mentioned that the most commonly used crimp angles range between 640 and 70 ".
