Thread Chisel Holder The present patent relates to a threaded chisel holder comprising a shank on one end of which the chisel is attached and which is rotatably mounted in a fastener so that the chisel can be tilted by. relative to a plane normal to the axis of the part to be threaded, and a device for adjusting the inclination of the chisel comprising a sliding finger, on the one hand, in a recti-line slot and, on the other hand, in a inclined groove made respectively in the fastener, along a generatrix thereof, and in the rod.
This chisel holder is characterized in that said finger comprises a cleat provided with two teeth engaged in a double helical groove of the rod and a clamping screw making it possible to apply this cleat against the groove in which its teeth are engaged, so as to secure the rod and the fixing part in the angular position corresponding to the desired inclination of the chisel, this inclination being indicated by a mark and a graduated scale carried one by the finger, the other by the part of fixation.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation view thereof.
Figs. 2 and 3 are two sections respectively along II-II and III-III of FIG. 1.
The chisel holder shown in the drawing, which is more especially intended for cutting external threads, comprises a cylindrical rod 10 housed and capable of turning in a bore of a fixing part 11 of square section. This rod, which can rotate with more or less fat friction in the part 11, depending on the degree of tightening of a nut 12 screwed on one of its ends, carries, at its other end, a support 13 on which the chisel 14 is attached by a fixing device comprising a tapered head screw 15, a wedge 16 and a clamping nut 17.
A finger 18, provided with a mark 19, is capable of sliding in a longitudinal slot 20 made in the part 11 opposite a graded scale 21; this finger simultaneously makes it possible to adjust the inclination of the chisel relative to a plane normal to the axis of the part to be threaded and to secure, for the chosen angle of inclination, the rod and the fixing part. For this purpose, it carries, on the one hand, a cleat 22 provided with two teeth 23 and 24, engaged in a double helical groove 25 hollowed out in the rod 10 and, on the other hand, a clamping chicken 26 allowing to apply with relatively high pressure the teeth of the cleat against the bottom of this groove.
To give the chisel the desired inclination, it suffices to loosen the chicken 26, then move it along the lumen 20 until the mark 19 and the indication of the chosen inclination angle are set. coincidentally, then screwing and locking the chicken 26, which secures the rod and the fixing part. During the rectilinear movement of the chicken, the two teeth of the cleat slid along the double groove of the rod causing the rod to rotate, and the chisel tilted to the desired angle.
It should be noted that the handling of this chisel holder is extremely simple, since the positioning of the chisel and its locking can be effected by the operation of one and the same organ, the chicken 26, without 'it is necessary, between these two successive operations, to release it. This chisel holder therefore has a considerable advantage over known chisel holders, the installation and adjustment of which are always long and tedious.
