Machine for copying flat keys The present invention relates to a machine for copying flat keys, comprising a milling cutter driven by an electric motor, a movable support of the tines to receive a blank key to be cut, this support being capable of, 'on the one hand, to move in a direction parallel to the axis of the milling cutter in order to cause this blank to pass longitudinally under the milling cutter and, on the other hand, to plunge in the direction of the milling cutter, a mechanism of feed driven by the motor causing the longitudinal displacement of the support relative to the cutter, and a feeler, brought to follow the profile of a key to be copied during this displacement,
limiting the plunging movement of the support so as to reproduce this profile on the blank.
The machine which is the subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that it has a recoil device arranged to bring the support into a position further away from the periphery of the cutter for a loading position of the machine, this device having adjustment means making it possible to adjust the distance separating the periphery of the cutter from the base of a clamp carried by the support and intended to house the key blank in order to adapt this distance to keys of different widths, in such a way that the rod of the blank can pass freely between the bottom of the clamp and the periphery of the milling cutter and that the collar of the wrench comes to abut axially against the milling cutter when the blank is introduced into the clamp.
The drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention. Fig. 1 is an axial section of the machine. Fig. 2 is an end view of the machine, with a partial section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 are sections respectively along lines 3-3 and 4-4 of FIG. 1.
Figs. 5 and 6 show two details, FIG. 6 being on a larger scale. The machine shown comprises an electric motor 1 which drives in rotation a cutter 2 fixed on a sleeve 3 mounted on one of the ends of the motor shaft.
Above the cutter 2, there is a movable support 4 disposed at the free end of an arm 5 which extends longitudinally above the motor. This arm 5 is articulated on the upper end of a leaf spring 6 which is fixed by its lower end to a frame 7 assembled by bolts to the rear flange of the motor 1. The spring 6 is formed on the major part. part of its length by two contiguous blades. It has an opening 9 for the wise pitch of the motor shaft and comprises at its upper end two tabs 10 by means of which it supports the arm 5 (see Figs. 1 and 5).
These tabs 10 constitute bearings for an axis 11 pivoted in two lugs 12 which the rear end of the arm 5 has.
The aforementioned axis 11 also carries a roller 13 which follows a cam 14 integral with a transverse shaft 15 arranged in bearings, not shown, of the frame 7.
The shaft 15 is driven at very low speed by the motor 1 via a vertical countershaft 16 also arranged without bearings of the frame 7. The motor 1 carries at the end of the shaft. shaft a sleeve 17 having a worm 18 which meshes with a tangent wheel 19 integral with the shaft 16. The latter in turn carries a worm 20 which meshes with a tangent wheel 21 integral with the shaft 15 and this mechanism is arranged under a protective casing 8 mounted on the frame 7.
Cam 14 rotates in the direction of arrow A (see fig. 1). During its rotation, from the position shown, it firstly pushes the arm 5 forward, to an advanced position in which the roller 13 comes to occupy the position 13 'indicated in dotted lines, then once the beak 14 'of the past cam allows the return of the arm 5 in its initial position under the action of the spring 6 which tends to stand up. The backward movement of the arm 5 (to the right in fig. 1) is about twice as fast as its forward movement.
The support 4 disposed at the free end of the arm 5 comprises two parallel longitudinal clamps intended to house, one, a key blank 23 which will be cut by the cutter 2 during the forward movement of the arm 5, and the another, a duplicating key 24 in contact with a fixed probe 25 (see FIG. 2).
The pliers intended to house the key to be reproduced 24 comprises two jaws constituted, one, by a plate 26 fixed to the arm 5 by screws not shown, and the other by a block 27 with a helical coil spring. 28 tends to move away from the plate 26. The clamp intended to house the key blank 23 comprises jaws constituted by a plate 29 and by a block 30 that a spring 31 tends to move away from the plate 29.
These two clamps can be tightened simultaneously by means of a control screw 32 which carries a button 33. This screw has at its end a part 34 provided with a left thread, which is screwed into a threaded hole of the block 27. It also has a groove 35 in which is placed a caliper 36 which a screw 37 prevents from rotating without, however, hindering its axial displacement. This bracket 36 bears axially against the block 30 and a rotation in the normal direction (to the right) of the button 33 has the effect of unscrewing the screw 32 of the block 27 and separating the blocks 27 and 30 from one another. and thus tighten the two clamps.
A left rotation of the screw 32 causes the simultaneous loosening of the two clamps.
It may happen that one wishes to cut successively several copies of the same key and in this case, only the blank must be replaced, the key to be reproduced being able to remain in its pliers. To this end, a second control screw 38 is provided which engages with the block 27 by a screw thread on the right and which makes it possible to block the clamp carrying the key to be reproduced 24 independently of the screw 32.
The front end of the arm 5 is guided laterally by a bracket 39 fixed to the arm 5 for two screws and the wings 40 of which frame a fixed guide plate 41 (see Figs. 1 and 3). In order to allow precise adjustment of the lateral position of the anterior end of the arm 5, the wings of this stirrup are connected to said arm by an adjustable spacer 42 which comprises a rod 43 screwed at its ends into pins 44 mounted at sliding in holes in the side walls of the arm 5. In these axes, are screwed adjustment screws 46 and 47 and on the rod 43 is disposed a sleeve 48 which maintains the wings 40 at the prescribed spacing.
By adjusting the axial position of the screws 46 and 47, the wings of the caliper 39 can be made to flex slightly to one side or the other, while remaining substantially parallel, so as to adjust the lateral position. of the support on the cutter.
The guide plate 41 is fixed by means of two screws 49 on a bridge 50 of a frame 51 assembled to the front flange of the engine by three screws 52. The plate 41 is split longitudinally over about two thirds of its length and a blade elastic 54 of curved shape has a lower branch pinched between the plate 41 and the bridge 50 and an upper branch housed in the slot of the plate 41 and constituting an elastic support for the key blank 23. This blade holds the blank against the bottom of the part before clamping the latter.
The feeler 25 is formed by the upper end of a metal blade 56 which is housed in a groove milled in the front face of the frame 51. This blade 56 is locked in the groove by a screw 57. The frame 51 has to its base two feet 58 constituting the front support of the machine.
The cutter 2 is concealed for the most part by a protective cover 59 pivoted at 60 by means of ears 61. An elastic blade 62 bearing on these ears 61 maintains the cover in the closed position shown in FIG. 1.
During the size of the blank, the arm 5 bears on the feeler 25 by means of the key to be reproduced, two tension springs 63 arranged between the axes 44 and pins 55 integral with the frame pulling the arm in the direction of the strawberry (see fig. 2 and 3).
To facilitate the introduction of the blank 23 of the key to be reproduced 24 in the clamps of the support, the machine comprises a recoil mechanism arranged to bring the arm 5 into a position away from the periphery of the cutter, that is, that is, in the loading position of the machine.
This mechanism comprises a support stop 64 fixed on the front end of the frame of the motor 1, stop on which rests the lower end of a lever 65 pivoted on a wedge 66 disposed longitudinally inside the arm 5 This wedge visible in plan at fi. 5 is formed in its front part by two parallel bars 67 and 67 'of rectangular section connected by two spacers 68. The lever 65 is pivoted between these two bars which are housed in slots 69 cut in a transverse rib 70 of the arm 5. The bar 67, of greater length, is welded to a plate 71 which has at its rear end a notch 72 by means of which it fits onto the transverse shaft 15 (Figs. 1 and 5).
The plate 71 carries a lug 73 and a tension spring 74 arranged between the rear spacer 68 and a pin 75 of the motor maintains this lug 73 against the periphery of a cam 76 integral with the shaft 15.
The bars 67 and 67 'of the wedge 66 constitute a practically horizontal raceway for two rollers 77 and 77' each rotatably mounted on one of the branches of a forked lever 78 pivoted on a transverse axis 79 passing through the front part of arm 5 (see fig. 1 and 4).
On the same axes as the rollers 77, 77 'are mounted rollers 80, 80' of a slightly larger diameter, which bear on the periphery of two identical cams 81, 81 'arranged on either side of the 'a thumbwheel 82, of which these cams are integral, on an axis 83 pivoted transversely in the arm 5.
As long as the cam 76 is in the starting position shown, the wedge 66 occupies its upper position shown in solid lines and the arm 5 is prevented from descending because the cams 81, 81 'rest on the rollers 80, 80' resting on the wedge 66.
On the other hand, shortly after starting the machine, the lug 73 falls on the lower part of the cam 76, and the wedge 66, under the action of the spring 74, is moved back, and due to the inclination stronger grip by the lever 65, takes the lower position shown in dotted lines on the left part of FIG. 1. The descent of the wedge 66 releases the arm 5 which then comes to rest on the probe 25.
When cutting flat keys, it is important that the profile cut from the key occupies a determined axial position with respect to a shoulder or collar of the key, intended to bear on the front end of the lock cylinder.
To obtain a perfect identity between the key to be reproduced and the cut key, the axial position of the key to cut 23 is determined on the machine shown because the shoulder 84 of the blank is brought into contact with the lateral face front 85 of the cutter (see FIG. 6), the position of the key to be reproduced being determined in a similar manner by stopping the key to be reproduced against the feeler 25 which has a longitudinal profile identical to that of the cutter. In this way, it is not necessary that the probe 25 and the cutter 2 be transversely aligned and the wear of the cutter or the play of the motor shaft does not present a disadvantage.
So that the contact required between the shoulder 84 of the key and the side face of the cutter is obtained even for keys of different widths, the machine has adjustment means making it possible to adjust the distance separating the bottom of the collet. of the periphery of the strawberry. To this end, the cams 81, 81 'by means of which the arm 5 rests on the rollers 80, 80' have a profile in the general shape of a spiral, so that the rotation in the direction of arrow B of the wheel 82 will have the effect of reducing the gap between the clamp and the cutter while its rotation in the opposite direction will have the effect of increasing it.
To facilitate the adjustment, on the axis 79 of the lever 78, is mounted a measuring probe 86 integral in rotation with the lever 78. The end of this probe comes out of the arm 5 through an opening of the latter and during the rotation of the arm. the wheel 82, it oscillates opposite a reference stop 87 formed on the outside face of the arm 5. For a rotation of the wheel 82 in the direction of the arrow. B, which corresponds to a reduction in the distance between the cutter and the clamp, the feeler 86 approaches the reference stop 87 and the various lever arms are chosen so that the distance E obtained between the bottom of the part and the cutter is slightly larger than the gap e present between the probe 86 and the stop 87.
It is thus possible to easily obtain the desired adjustment following the prior presentation of the blank under the measuring probe 86, the slightly greater distance obtained automatically between the cutter and the bottom of the collet allowing the free passage of the rod of the blank supported by the spring 54 and the shoulder 84 of the key abutting against the lateral face of the cutter.
The cam 76 is configured to automatically return the wedge 66 to the raised position during the retraction stroke of the arm 5 and the machine is equipped with a limit switch which stops it automatically after the shaft 15 has turned. full turn.
Thanks to the mentioned reversing and adjustment devices, loading the machine presents no difficulty.
