The present invention relates to a hectographic addressing machine, in which the clichés are carried by a band, the device for driving the cliché band being mounted on a tilting frame. This machine is characterized in that the tilting frame drives a device controlling the advancement of the documents to be printed in the printing position by means of a mechanical connection device.

Fig. 8 is a section taken along line VIII-VIII of FIG. 2.
Fig. 9 is a plan view of the cliché press plate.
Fig. 10 is a sectional view of a release device which may be used for controlling the lower drive roller.
The machine shown in the drawing comprises a table 1 intended to receive the documents D which must be printed by it. The device for feeding these documents essentially comprises two rollers, namely an upper moistening roller 2 and a lower driving roller 3. The moistening roller 2 which is, for this purpose, supplied by a level reservoir. constant 4, is mounted crazy on its axis <I> 2a. </I> This axis <I> 2a </I> is carried by the arms 5a and <I> 6a of </I> two identical levers 5 and 6 articulated around a common horizontal axis 7.
The ends 5b and 6b of these two levers are connected by a transverse rod 8 (fig. 5) which engages with the fork-shaped end 9a of a lever 9. The moistening roller 2 can thus be moved towards the front. up by rotation around axis 7 under the control of lever 9.
The lower drive roller 3 is mounted on a shaft 10 pivoting in bearings formed in the frame of the machine. The connection between the drive roller 3 and the shaft 10 is made by means of a clutch device, a section of which is shown, on a larger scale, in FIG. 10. This conventional ball release device allows the roller to be driven. 3 by shaft 10 when the latter rotates in the direction of arrow F. - Furthermore, if the shaft 10 is fixed, it is possible to rotate the roller 3 with respect to this shaft 10 following the arrow Fi .
A string 11 is wound on the shaft 10, one end of which is fixed to this shaft 10 and the other of which is fixed to the end 12a of a lever 12 articulated around an axis 13. Furthermore, a string 20 , one end of which is attached to shaft 10, is attached to a return spring 22 attached to the frame of the machine. The other end 12b of the angled lever 12 is disposed on the path of a rod 14 fixed between two lever arms 15 and 16, these arms being articulated around a fixed common axis 17. These two arms 15 and 16 form the extensions at right angles to the two branches 18 and 19 constituting the tilting frame which supports the device for feeding the cliché strip.
These branches 18 and 19 are connected at their end by a handle 21 operated by the operator. The device for feeding the cliché strip will be described later.
The lever 9, the fork-shaped end of which che 9a engages with the rod 8, is articulated around a pin 23 mounted on the bracket 24 (FIG. 1) which serves as a support for the humidifier device. A tooth 9b (FIG. 5) of this lever 9 is placed opposite a pawl 25, the end 25a of which is connected by a spring 25c to a lug 9c of said lever 9. The pawl 25 is movable around the latch. 'axis 17.
On the arm 15 is also disposed a finger 26 intended to cooperate with the parts 9d and 25b of the lever 9 and the pawl 25. Furthermore, the lever 9 comprises an extension 9th curved at 900 relative to this lever and pressing on the 'end of lever 27 at the end of which is mounted the pressure roller 28 (fig. 1 and 2). This lever 27 is articulated around an axis 29 and comprises at its end a finger 27a to which is fixed a spring 31, the other end of which is attached to the square 24.
The ejection roller 32 (FIG. 4) carries a pawl 33 which cooperates with teeth 34a formed at the periphery of the shaft 34. Thus the ejection roller 32 is driven by the shaft 34 when the latter rotates. in a direction corresponding to the clockwise direction in fig. 2 and not when turning counterclockwise. A string 35, wound on .l'arbre 34 and one end of which is fixed to this shaft, is attached on the other hand to (end 36a (fig. 5) of an elbow lever 36 articulated around an axis 37 The other end 36b of this lever 36 is interposed on the path of the rod 14.
Another string 38, wound on the shaft 34 and fixed by one of its ends to this shaft, is also attached (FIG. 4) to a return spring 39 fixed to the frame of the machine. A wedge 41, movable around an axis 42, is pressed against the rod 14, on the side opposite the lever arms 12b and 36b, under the action of the spring 43 (FIG. 4), one end of which is fixed to the frame. the machine.
The tilting frame made up of the two branches 18 and 19 and of the printing means of the printing strip which is mounted on these branches is returned to its rest position, that is to say its high position shown in particular on the fig. 1 and 5, under the action of a spring 44 (FIG. 4), one end of which is attached to a lug 16a carried by the end of the arm 16 and the other of which is fixed to the frame of the machine.
On the feeder 30, fixed on the table 1 of the machine by means of screws 30a (fig. 1 and 2) is mounted a guide strip 45 having an L-profile in the area 45a before the rollers, and U-shaped in the zone 45b corresponding to the printing position (fig. 6 and 7). The cross section of this U decreases towards the end of the strip, and we are thus assured of a good drive of the document D to be printed, even if it is not perfectly flat.
The device for feeding the cliché tape carried by the branches 18 and 19 comprises two reels 46 and 47 serving alternately and respec tively for winding and unwinding of the cliché tape, the latter passing under the printing plate 51. This band 48 is driven by two rollers 49 and 50 comprising at their periphery a ring of elastic material, these rollers being pressed against a cylinder 54. These two rollers 49 and 50 are arranged opposite the marginal zones of the plate band 48. .
This avoids the drawback encountered with the prior device comprising a single disc disposed axially; in fact, an accumulation of hectographic material was obtained in the central zone of the cylinder 54 and, consequently, a defective impression.
During printing, the platen 51 presses the cliché strip against the document which is then placed on a rubber support 52 (FIG. 2). So that the cliché band 48 is stretched under the printing plate 51, a cliché press made of elastic metallic material 53 is mounted on the two branches 18 and 19 of the tilting frame. This plate 53 comprises a window 53a (FIG. 9) so as to allow the cliché strip 48 which slides between this plate 53 and the printing plate 51 (FIG. 8) to come into contact with the document to be printed.
The side bands 53b of the cliché press keep the cliché band 48 stretched against the printing plate 51.
The operation of the machine according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In these drawings, the machine is shown in its rest state, the tilting frame being in its upper position and no document being in position. printing tion. Before any operation, the document D to be printed is first brought against the rollers 2 and 3 (position indicated in fig. 2). The rotation of the frame tilting downward along the arrow P will be broken down into a certain number of phases.
The first phase corresponds substantially to the movement of the rod 14 between the position shown in FIG. 5 and that where it comes into contact with the end 12b of the lever 12. During this first phase, the rod 14 drives the lever 36 in clockwise rotation; this results in a rotation of the shaft 34 and, consequently, of the ejection roller 32 in the counterclockwise direction in FIG. 2. At the same time, the wedge 41, which is pressed against the rod 14 under the action of the spring 43, rotates around its axis 42 until it comes into contact with the periphery of the ejection roller. 32.
At this time, this ejection roller 32 is blocked.
The second phase extends substantially from the start of the drive of the lower drive roller 3 until the moment when the moistening roller 2 is lifted. The rotation of the rod 14 in the clockwise direction around the axis 17 (FIG. 5) always causes a rotation of the shaft 34 in the same direction, the ejection roller 32 being immobilized. This relative rotation of the shaft 34 with respect to the ejection roller 32 is made possible by the ratchet coupling 33 carried by said ejection roller 32. During these movements, the string 38 is wound on the. ar ber 34 and band the return spring 39.
Simultaneously, the rod 14 which comes into contact with the end 12b of the angled lever 12 also drives it in clockwise rotation around the axis 13. The shaft 10, on which the roller is mounted. in lower drag 3, is then driven by the intermediary of the string 11 fixed to the end 12a of the lever 12. The upper moistening roller 2 which is in contact with this lower roller 3 is driven by the latter and by the document which is fed between these two rollers. At the same time, the string 20 is wound on the shaft 10 and binds the return spring 22.
The third phase begins when the moistening roller 2 is lifted while the document D is brought into the printing position under the plate 51. In fact, during the clockwise rotation of the tilting frame and of the arm 15 around it. the axis 17, the finger 26 carried by this arm 15 comes at a certain moment in contact with the part 9d of the lever 9. When the movement continues, this finger 26 causes a rotation of the lever 9 around its axis 23 in the anticlockwise. It follows that the tooth 9b slides under the tooth of the pawl 25, which then comes, under the action of the spring 26, hand hold the lever 9 in this position.
This rotation of the lever 9 causes an upward movement of its fork-shaped end 9a and a corresponding movement of the transverse rod 8, that is to say of the support of the moistening roller 2. During this same movement, the 9e curved extension of the lever 9 is separated from the lever 27 at the end of which the pressure roller 28 is mounted. The action of the spring 31 (fig. 1) fixed to the finger 27a carried by the end of the lever 27 causes a rotation of the latter around its axis 29 and the pressure roller 28 comes into contact with the ejection roller 32.
At this time, printing can be carried out freely, the document being held only by the pressure roller 28 and the ejection roller 32 and no longer being driven by the rollers 2 and 3.
When the tilting frame returns to its rest position, the above operations are repeated in reverse order. At the start of this return movement, the rod 14 rotating around the axis 17 in a counterclockwise direction releases the two levers 12 and 36 which rotate around their respective axes 13. And 37 in the counterclockwise direction (fig. 5). ). The lower drive roller 3 is then dragged in the counterclockwise direction (fig. 2) under the action of the return spring 22.
On the other hand, the ejection roller 32 (FIG. 5) remains blocked by the wedge 41 and the string 35 takes up slack. When the rod 14 comes into contact with the wedge 41, it rotates it counterclockwise around the axis 42; the ejection roller 32 is suddenly released and, under the action of the return spring 39 and of the string 38, it is driven very quickly in the clockwise direction (fig. 2). The document D which has just been printed is then ejected from the machine.
The pressure roller 28 is in fact in its lower position in contact with the printed document.
During this same return movement, the finger 26 carried by the arm 15 moves away from the part 9d of the lever 9, which allows this lever to rotate clockwise around the axis 23 and the moistening roller upper 2 to come into contact with lower roller 3. In this same movement, finger 26 comes into contact with part 25b of pawl 25 and drives it into the position shown in FIG. 5.
During the movement of rotation of the lever 9 around its axis 23 in the clockwise direction, the pro length curved at 90, 9th, again presses on the end of the lever <B> 27; </B> this results in the latter rotates around its axis 29 against the action of the spring 31, which rotation causes the upward movement of the pressure roller 28.
The machine is then ready for a new operating cycle.
