Quand le dispositif de charge 9 se trouve dans la position de charge représentée sur le dessin, une cavité annulaire allongée 20, qui est formée à la péri phérie extérieure de la tige 16, établit une commu nication entre un canal 21 et un canal 22 ;
L'orifice calibré 27 est prévu pour qu'on puisse don ner aux orifices calibrés 25, 30 des dimensions plus orandes que celles qui résulteraient de leur seul emploi pour les débits respectifs prescrits ; cette dis position a pour but de réduire les risques d'obstruc tion des orifices. Le débit de l'orifice calibré 34 est grand par comparaison avec celui des orifices 27, 30 connectés en série et ne produit par conséquent aucune réduction du débit de charge du réservoir auxiliaire 3 ;
Le fluide, à la pression de la conduite générale, s'écoule également du canal 28, par l'intermédiaire de l'orifice calibré 42 et du canal 41, dans la cham bre 40 du dispositif 10 de surcharge du réservoir de commande, en permettant ainsi à la pression de cette chambre de monter rapidement jusqu'à la pression de la conduite générale ;
Desserra.-e <I>des freins</I> Pour desserrer les freins, le mécanicien déplace d'abord la poignée de son robinet de commande jus- q <B>'à</B> la position de desserrage<B>;</B> puis, après un certain u<B>C</B> temps commandé par des facteurs ne concernant pas la présente invention, il fait passer cette poignée dans la position de marche ;
Le fluide sous pression alimentant ainsi la con duite générale 1 s'écoule par le canal 28 de conduite Générale dans le dispositif de serrage rapide 50 et dans la chambre 52 du dispositif de service 7, d'où il passe dans le réservoir auxiliaire 3, par l'intermé diaire de la communication habituelle de charge com prenant un canal 53, le dispositif de charge 8 et un canal 54, jusqu'à ce que la pression dans le réservoir auxiliaire ait augmenté et ait atteint une valeur rap prochée de moins de 0,1 19 kg,-'cm= de la pression dans la chambre 52 ;
Par conséquent, quand le dispositif de charge 9 passe à sa position de charge sous l'action du ressort 19 à la fin de cet intervalle de temps, la pression de conduite générale régnant dans le canal 21 n'est toujours inférieure que de quelques centaines de -,-'cm= à la pression du réser voir de commande et peut même être égale à cette dernière pression ; d'autre part, la pression du réser voir auxiliaire est inférieure d'environ<B>0, 119</B> k-z cm-' à celle du fluide accumulé dans la chambre 52 du dispositif de service 7 ;
Quand le dispositif de charge 9 passe en position de charge, le fluide sous pression s'écoule du canal 28 de conduite générale dans le réservoir auxiliaire 3, en passant par la communication décrite précé- demment et comprenant le canal 23 et la chambre 24 ;
si à ce moment la pression dans le canal 28, et par conséquent dans le canal 21, est inférieure à celle du réservoir de commande 6, cette dernière pression s'égalise avec celle de la conduite générale 1 en s'échappant dans celle-ci avec un débit commandé par les effets combinés des orifices calibrés en série 25, 27 et de l'orifice calibré 42 de dissipation de la surcharge du réservoir de commande ;
Cepen dant, il faut remarquer que, avant que la pression du réservoir de commande ne se dissipe d'une manière appréciable dans la conduite générale, la pression dans la conduite générale, et par conséquent dans le canal 28, a augmenté jusqu'à sa valeur normale de fonctionnement, en réalisant successivement l'arrêt de la dissipation de pression, puis, le clapet de rete nue 37 étant refermé, le rétablissement de la pres sion du ,réservoir de commande pair l'intermédiaire des orifices calibrés 25, 27 et du canal 21 ;
Dans ces conditions, les freins étant desserrés sur les wagons, le dispositif de charge 9 est en posi tion de charge. Puisque la pression de conduite géné rale est maintenant plus faible que précédemment, le fluide sous pression s*écoule du réservoir de com mande 6 surchargé et de la chambre de commande 29 du dispositif de service 7 dans le canal 21, en passant par le canal 22 ;
The present invention relates to pressurized fluid braking equipment, in particular with moderate control, used on European trains, and in which the braking force is controlled as a function of the pressure reduction. , in a general pipe, below the pressure prevailing in a control tank.
In some braking equipment of this type, if the brakes are applied several times at short intervals, the pressurized fluid from the control reservoir successively escapes into the auxiliary reservoir and the pressure cannot be fully restored in this reservoir. command, between successive braking. This can happen when the train goes down a long slope, and it is then possible that the achievable pressure in the brake cylinder is reduced so much that the speed of the train becomes dangerous.
The main object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus of the above type making it possible to mitigate the drawback which has just been described.
This improved braking apparatus is characterized by the fact that it further comprises a valve device responding to the escape of pressurized fluid from a chamber, by opening the general pipe to the auxiliary reservoir by means of 'a first communication duct and by or vrant the general pipe on the control tank via a communication duct, this valve device also being capable, following the arrival of the fluid under pressure in said chamber,
to cut off the communication between the general pipe, on the one hand, and the two auxiliary and control tanks, on the other hand, a first calibrated throttling means interposed between the general pipe and the first communication pipe to control the flow fluid from the general pipe to the auxiliary tank, and a second calibrated throttling means interposed between the general pipe and the communication pipe to control the flow of fluid from the general pipe to the control tank.
The invention will now be described in detail with reference to the drawing, the single end of which represents an embodiment of the invention.
The braking apparatus, shown comprises the usual general pipe 1, which extends all along the train and which can be charged with fluid at a pressure commanded, in a known manner, by the mechanic, by maneuvering by hand the usual automatic valve (not shown) placed on the locomotive; the mechanic can thus control the application and release of the brakes of the train cars.
On each wagon equipped with brakes, a valve braking control device 2 is mounted capable of responding to a reduction in pressure in the main pipe 1 in order to control the supply of pressurized fluid to the brake cylinder 4 by firing the usual auxiliary tank 3, in order to apply a proportionate braking force to this wagon.
These measures ? is capable, on the other hand, of responding to an increase in the pressure in the brake pipe, to effect a proportionate evacuation into the atmosphere of the pressurized fluid contained in the brake cylinder, as well as to fill other functions of which only a few are included in the subject of the present invention and will be described below.
The braking control device 2 com takes a pipe support and a housing, the assembly of which is designated by the reference index 5. On this support, are connected, the main pipe 1 of the train, the auxiliary tank 3, the brake cylinder 4 and the usual control reservoir 6. The device 2 also comprises the usual moderate control part or valve clamping device 7 and the current charging device 8 with a retaining valve.
The device 2 comprises a valve charging device 9, a device 10 for overloading the control tank with a check valve and a device 11 for overloading the auxiliary tank with a check valve; these devices 9, 10 and 11 are formed inside the different sections of the housing 5 and are partially delimited by these sections.
The valve charging device 9 comprises a flexible diaphragm 12, which is suitably clamped at its outer periphery between adjacent sections of the housing and which separates a pressure chamber 13 from a chamber 14 constantly open to the air. The diaphragm 12 is in contact with a diaphragm bearing member 15, integral with an assembly 16 comprising a rod and a slide; this assembly 16 passes through the chamber 14 communicating with the atmosphere and can slide in a sealed manner in a coaxial bore 17 of the housing 5.
The chamber 13 may be charged with pressurized fluid or vented to atmosphere in the usual manner via a channel 18 of the casing. When the chamber 13 is empty of pressurized fluid, a spring 19, arranged in the chamber 14 and acting on the member 15,
pushes the diaphragm 12 and the slide 16 to a first position which will be called in what follows the loading position of the device 9 p. When, on the contrary, the pressurized fluid arrives in the chamber 13, the diaphragm 12 bends overcoming the resistance of the spring 19,
and thus advances the drawer 16 to another position which will be called the cut-off position of the device 9 n.
When the charging device 9 is in the charging position shown in the drawing, an elongated annular cavity 20, which is formed at the outer periphery of the rod 16, establishes communication between a channel 21 and a channel 22;
at the same time, the free end of the rod 16 discovers a channel 23 so as to make it communicate with a chamber 24 delimited by the free end of the rod 16, as well as by the bottom and the walls of the bore 17.
The channel 21 is constantly open to the general duct 1 by a calibrated orifice 25, a chamber 26, a calibrated orifice 27 and a general duct channel 28, for reasons which will be explained later.
The channel 22 is constantly open on the control tank 6; a branch of this channel is constantly open to the usual control chamber 29 of the device 7, so that the pressures in the general pipe 1, in this chamber 29 and in the control tank can equalize when the device load 9 is in the load position.
The channel 23 constantly communicates with the general pipe 1 through a calibrated orifice 30, the chamber 26, the calibrated orifice 27 and the channel 28 of the general pipe. The chamber 24 communicates with the auxiliary reservoir 3 by a channel 31, a chamber 32 surrounding the valve clamping device 7, the channel 33, the calibrated orifice 34, the channel 35, the valve device limiting the cylinder dre. brake (not shown), and finally channel 36.
Note that the calibrated orifice 27 is in series with the calibrated orifices 25, 30, respectively, which are in parallel with one another. The dimensions of the calibrated orifice 25 and of the calibrated orifice 27 are such that the control tank 6 will be filled. within a prescribed time, during the initial load of the switchgear, through the channel 28 of the general pipe.
On the other hand, the dimensions of the calibrated orifice 30 and of the calibrated orifice 27 are such that, during this initial charge, the auxiliary tank 3 will also be filled at the same time from the channel 28; taking into account the fact that, as indicated above, the control tank 6 has a smaller volume than that of the auxiliary tank 3.
It follows, therefore, that the combined flow rate of the calibrated orifices 27, 25 for the charge of the control tank is lower than that of the calibrated orifices 27, 30 for the charge of the auxiliary tank and that the orifice 25 has, by con sequent, smaller dimensions than orifice 30.
The calibrated orifice 27 is provided so that the calibrated orifices 25, 30 can be given larger dimensions than those which would result from their sole use for the respective prescribed flow rates; the purpose of this arrangement is to reduce the risk of obstruction of the orifices. The flow rate of the calibrated orifice 34 is large compared with that of the orifices 27, 30 connected in series and consequently produces no reduction in the charge flow rate of the auxiliary tank 3;
this calibrated orifice 34 is intended to control the flow rate of the fluid going from the auxiliary reservoir into the brake cylinder 4.
When the load device 9 is in the cut-off position, the assembly 16 of the rod and the spool is arranged so as to cut off the communication which was established by the cavity 20 between the two channels 21 and 22 and thus to allow the fluid to equalize its pressure in the channel 22, the control tank 6 and the control chamber 29 of the device 7, for reasons which will be explained a little later; on the other hand, in this cut-off position.
the free end of the assembly 16 isolates the channel 23 from the chamber 24, so as to close the communication between the general pipe 1 and the auxiliary tank 3 for reasons which will also be explained a little later.
The device 10 for overloading the control tank comprises a check valve 37, which may have the shape of a disc and apply against a seat constituted by an annular and projecting rib 38 of a member mounted in the housing 5. This valve 37 is subjected on one side to the pressure in a chamber 39, which is delimited by the internal wall of the annular rib 38 and constantly opens onto a branch of the channel 21, and on the other side to the pressure in a chamber 40, which communicates constantly with a channel 41 opening through a calibrated orifice 42 in the channel 28 of general con duct.
During the dissipation of the overload of the control tank, the flow rate of the calibrated orifice 42 is added to that of the calibrated orifices 25, 27, so that this dissipation takes place with a faster flow than that obtained during the initial load by means of the orifices 27, 25 alone, but however not fast enough to prevent application of the brakes or operation of the apparatus in the manner which will be explained a little later.
The device <B> 11 </B> for overloading the auxiliary tank comprises a non-return valve 43 which may have the shape of a disc and which may be applied against a seat constituted by a protruding annular rib of a component 44 mounted in the housing 5.
This valve 43 is subjected on one side to the pressure in a chamber 45, which is delimited by the internal wall of the rib 44 and which constantly communicates with a branch of the channel 23, and on the other side to the pressure in a chamber 46 which is constantly open to a channel 47 opening out through a calibrated orifice 48 in the channel 28 of the general pipe.
During the dissipation of the overload of the auxiliary tank, the flow rate of the calibrated orifice 48 is added to the combined flow rates of the calibrated orifices 30, 27 connected in series, so that this dissipation takes place with a greater flow rate than that obtained and permitted during the initial charge by the ports 27, 30 alone, but not large enough, however, to prevent application of the brakes or operation of the apparatus in the manner described below.
It should be noted that the calibrated orifice 48 has a lower flow rate than the calibrated orifice 42. Operation The braking equipment being empty of fluid under pressure, its various elements occupy the positions shown in the drawing, with the exception of the usual selector device 49 adjustable by hand, which is not of interest to the present invention and which will be assumed to be in the merchandise position.
Initial load <I> of the braking equipment </I> To initially load the braking equipment of a train, as well as to reload it in order to release the brakes, the engineer moves first the handle of its brake valve (not shown) to a released position to supply directly, with fluid at a relatively high pressure, the brake pipe 1 of the train from the usual main tank mounted on the locomotive:
then, after a period of time controlled by factors not relating to the invention, the mechanic moves this handle to the operating position e, in order to reduce the pressure of the fluid supplying the general pipe to the pressure normal operation at which it is desired to maintain this behavior.
During the initial loading, the pressurized fluid thus feeding the brake pipe 1 on each wagon fitted with brakes. flows from this pipe into the channel 28, then from there into the quick-release device 50, and also into the valve-type clamping device 7.
The pressurized fluid also flows from channel 28. with a flow rate controlled by the combined effects of calibrated orifices 27 and 25, into channel 21, and from there into channel 22, passing through cavity 20 of rod 16 the charging device 9; the fluid then flows into the control reservoir 6 and into the control chamber 29 of the service device 7.
I1 also flows from channel 28, with the flow rate controlled by the combined effects of calibrated orifices 27 and 30, into channel 23. and from there into channel 35 passing through channel 31, chamber 32, channel 33 and the calibrated orifice 34; from channel 35, it flows through the device for limiting the brake cylinder, a device already mentioned, and through channel 36, into the auxiliary reservoir 3; this fluid also passes from channel 35 into quick clamping device 50.
The fluid, at the pressure of the general pipe, also flows from the channel 28, via the calibrated orifice 42 and the channel 41, into the chamber 40 of the device 10 for overloading the control tank, in thus allowing the pressure of this chamber to rise rapidly to the pressure of the general pipe;
meanwhile, the pressure in channel 21, and therefore in chamber 39 of device 10, rises at a slower rate due to the relatively larger volume of control tank 6 and control chamber 29 of the device. clamping device 7.
The preponderant pressure prevailing in the chamber 40 of the check valve device 10 consequently maintains the check valve 37 closed throughout the duration of the initial load of the apparatus; when the pressure in the chamber 39 is also equalized with the pressure of the general pipe, at the end of this initial charge, there is no pressure imbalance liable to produce the opening of this valve.
The fluid, at the pressure of the general pipe, also flows at the same time from the channel 28, through the calibrated orifice 48 and from the channel 47; in the chamber 46 of the device 11 for overloading the auxiliary tank, by rapidly increasing the pressure in this chamber; on the other hand, the pressure prevailing in this channel 23, and consequently in the chamber 45, increases more slowly, as a result of the large volume of the auxiliary reservoir 3.
The check valve 43 is therefore kept closed throughout the duration of the initial load of the apparatus and even thereafter, as long as the pressure in the chamber 45 does not exceed the pressure in the chamber 46, as is expected. see from the previous description.
It should be noted that the chamber 13 of the charging device 9 remains empty of pressurized fluid throughout the duration of the initial charge, because the service device 7 remains in the release position, for which the brake cylinder 4 and channel 18 are both open to the air.
<I> Brake applications </I> We will now assume that the general pipe 1, the auxiliary tank 3 and the control tank 6 being charged to the normal operating pressure of the brake pipe, the mechanic actuates the handle of its valve in a known manner to effect a pressure reduction in the brake pipe with the aim of obtaining a corresponding force for applying the brakes.
The quick-clamping device 50, in cooperation with the usual intake device 51, rapidly supplies pressurized fluid to the channel 18, and therefore to the chamber 13 of the charging device 9, and thereby to pass this device to the cut-off position.
The charging device 9 being in the off position, the channel 21 no longer communicates with the channel 22; the communication between the general pipe 1 and the control tank 6 is thus eliminated and the fluid is stored at a given pressure in the control tank and in the control chamber 29 of the service device 7, which emerges from the previous description; the magnitude of the chosen reduction effected in the pressure of the brake pipe, relative to said given pressure of the control reservoir, controls the degree of braking obtained.
On the other hand, the charging device 9 being in the cut-off position, the channel 23 no longer communicates with the chamber 24, and the communication is therefore cut between the general duct 1 and the auxiliary tank 3, to prevent a reduction. undesirable pressure in this reservoir via the main line, so that fluid at a relatively high pressure can be directed from this reservoir into the brake cylinder 4 to effect braking.
Releasing <I> Brakes </I> To release the brakes, the mechanic first moves the handle of his control valve to <B> 'at </B> the release position <B> ; </B> then, after a certain u <B> C </B> time commanded by factors not relating to the present invention, it moves this handle to the on position;
the purpose of these two maneuvers is to charge the general pipe 1 with fluid respectively at a relatively high pressure, then at the normal operating pressure in accordance with current practice.
The pressurized fluid thus supplying the general pipe 1 flows through the general pipe channel 28 into the quick-clamping device 50 and into the chamber 52 of the service device 7, from where it passes into the auxiliary tank 3, through the usual load communication comprising a channel 53, the load device 8 and a channel 54, until the pressure in the auxiliary tank has increased and has reached a close value of less than 0.1 19 kg, - 'cm = the pressure in the chamber 52;
at this moment, a spring 55 aided by the pressure in the channel 54 and acting on the usual check valve 56 of the device 8 closes this valve, despite the resistance of the pressure in the channel 53, and prevents the charge of this reservoir from continue through this communication.
When the pressure in the chamber 52 of the positive device 7 has reached by increasing a value close to less than a few hundred g, / cm = (about 200 grams) of the pressure in the control chamber 29 of this device 7, the brake cylinder 4 is empty of pressurized fluid and the brakes are consequently released; the device 7 will then respond, in the usual manner, to a further slight increase in pressure in the chamber 52, to cut off the communication between this chamber and the channel 28 of the general pipe.
When the brakes have been fully released there is, as usual, a short time interval during which the fluid pressure escapes into the atmosphere with a controlled flow rate from chamber 13 of the charging device 9 by passing through channel 18, the usual calibrated orifice and device 7; during this same period of time, the pressure of the brake pipe, and consequently the pressure in the channel 28 and in the channels 21 and 23, increases as it approaches its normal operating value.
Therefore, when the load device 9 moves to its load position under the action of the spring 19 at the end of this time interval, the main pipe pressure prevailing in the channel 21 is still only a few hundred lower. de -, - 'cm = to the pressure of the control tank and may even be equal to this last pressure; on the other hand, the pressure of the auxiliary reservoir is approximately <B> 0, 119 </B> k-z cm- 'lower than that of the fluid accumulated in the chamber 52 of the service device 7;
in other words, the pressure in the auxiliary tank can drop to a value approximately 0.329 k -! cm = lower than the general pipe pressure in channel 28, if this pressure has then reached its normal value Operating.
When the charging device 9 passes into the charging position, the pressurized fluid flows from the general pipe channel 28 into the auxiliary tank 3, passing through the communication described above and comprising the channel 23 and the chamber 24;
if at this moment the pressure in the channel 28, and consequently in the channel 21, is lower than that of the control tank 6, this latter pressure is equalized with that of the general pipe 1 by escaping into the latter with a flow rate controlled by the combined effects of the series calibrated orifices 25, 27 and the calibrated orifice 42 for dissipating the overload of the control tank;
however, the pressure of the control tank does not escape in the auxiliary tank, owing to the pressure head prevailing in the general pipe 1, and therefore in the chamber 26, and because the control tank 6 is isolated from auxiliary tank 3 by calibrated orifices 25, 30.
However, it should be noted that before the pressure in the control tank was appreciably dissipated in the brake pipe, the pressure in the brake pipe, and therefore in channel 28, increased to its normal operating value, by successively stopping the pressure dissipation, then, with the check valve 37 being closed, restoring the pressure of the control tank even through the calibrated orifices 25, 27 and channel 21;
during this time, the auxiliary tank, at the time of this reestablishment of the pressure of the control tank, may not have been fully recharged, due to its relatively large volume and the greater initial pressure difference between the auxiliary tank and general pipe.
It will now be noted that the pressure in the control reservoir, if it has been reduced, has not decreased appreciably following a release of the brakes; even if the mechanic reapply the brakes frequently as the train descends a long grade, the pressure in the control tank is never significantly reduced.
<I> Dissipation of the overload </I> We will now assume that the pressure in the control tank and in the auxiliary tank exceeds the pressure of the brake pipe, following, for example, the replacement of a loco Motives, in which the usual valve feeder had been set to a value slightly higher than that of the replacement locomotive; as a result, the pressure of the brake pipe is reduced by several hectograms; 'cm = as a result of this change.
It is also assumed that, in accordance with current practice, the engineer's valve handle on the new motive locomotive is in the run position when the brake pipe of this motive locomotive is connected to that of the cars in the train.
Under these conditions, with the brakes released on the wagons, the loading device 9 is in the loading position. Since the general line pressure is now lower than before, the pressurized fluid flows from the overloaded control tank 6 and from the control chamber 29 of the service device 7 into the channel 21, passing through the channel. 22;
from there it flows, not only through the calibrated orifices 25, 27 in the channel 28 of the general pipe, but also through the chamber 39 and the open check valve 37 of the overload device 10, into the chamber 40, and from there in the pipe channel 28; eneral, passing through the channel 41 and the calibrated orifice 42, in order to dissipate this overload in the general pipe 1; the pressure therein is then maintained at the value chosen by the well-known operation of the mechanic's valve.
Likewise, the pressurized fluid flows from the overloaded auxiliary reservoir 3 into the chamber 24 and the channel 23, from which it passes, not only into the general pipe channel 28 through the calibrated orifices 30, 27, but also in the chamber 46 through the chamber 45 and the open check valve 43 of the device 11; from there, it flows into the channel 28 of the general pipe, passing through the channel 47 and the calibrated orifice 48, in order to dissipate this overload in the general pipe 1.
It can now be seen that the braking apparatus according to the invention comprises an arrangement for preventing the pressure of the control reservoir from dissipating in the auxiliary reservoir after the brakes have been released; as a result, an appreciable reduction in control reservoir pressure cannot occur, even if the engineer repeatedly applies the brakes several times as the train descends a long grade.
It can also be seen that the dissipation of any excessive pressure in the control and auxiliary tanks is achieved for each of these tanks by separate check valve overload devices.
