<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Device driven by a variable-speed shaft and intended to supply pulses regularly spaced in time. Devices driven by a variable-speed shaft and intended to supply pulses regularly spaced in time are already known, comprising a sliding transmission device , arranged between the variable speed shaft and a rotary member whose speed of rotation is regulated by an exhaust device, this rotary member cooperating with at least one movable element to move the latter by pulses regularly spaced in time.
It is difficult to achieve good precision in the operation of these devices, since the period of oscillation of the exhaust devices varies according to the load applied to them and, in practice, it is hardly possible to avoid variations in the resistance forces opposing the movements of the mobile element which is moved by regular pulses. Indeed, this mobile element can be intended to trace time marks, for example on a paper by means of an ink point, or on a metal sheet or other covered with a layer of wax or tinted grease, l 'movable element being, in this case, intended to remove the wax or the tinted grease so that the marks of time are visible.
It is clear that the resistance due to friction of the part used for the marking of time marks can depend on several factors, such as, for example, the quality of the paper, the humidity of the atmosphere and the temperature, because the latter has an influence on the viscosity of ink or oil, or on the resistance of wax.
The device which is the subject of the invention makes it possible to obtain good operating precision owing to the fact that the rotary member drives, via an elastic element, a rotary part whose speed of rotation is limited by the device. 'exhaust, a locking mechanism of the rotary member being controlled by the driven rotary part, so as to periodically block and unlock it. and allow it to rotate by a determined angle on each release, this mechanism ensuring release each time the driven part has rotated by a determined angle and locking each time the rotary member has turned through the same angle.
The drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention, specially designed to be applied to a speed recorder.
Fig. 1 is a side view of this embodiment, partially cut away.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line I1-11 of FIG. 1, a part having been deleted and shown in FIGS. 3 and 4.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 4.
Fig. 4 is a side view, partially cut away, of the part shown in FIG. 3.
The device shown is intended for incorporation into a speed recorder, of the type in which time marks are plotted on a disc which is driven at a speed proportional to that of the vehicle which is fitted with the instrument. However, part of this speed recorder has no relation to the invention and is therefore not shown so as not to overload the drawing unnecessarily.
The device comprises a shaft 1 which is driven in proportion to the speed of the vehicle. This shaft rotates in a socket 2 (fig. 2) which is fixed to a plate 3 by means of a nut 4 screwed onto the socket. The shaft 1 carries a pinion 5 at one of its ends, this pinion being intended for driving a disc, not shown, on which the time marks are made making it possible to determine the speed of the vehicle on the last part of the journey. that he performed. This shaft is integral with a flange 6 forming one of the faces of a cylindrical box formed by this flange 6 and a part 7 in the form of a bell.
The flange 6 has a thread on its periphery, which allows it to be fixed in a corresponding thread provided inside the cylindrical face of the part 7. Inside this box are two friction linings 8 and 9 washer-shaped and can rotate freely inside the cylindrical box. This box also contains two smooth washers 10 and 11 which are held apart from each other by a spring washer 12, so that each of the linings 8 and 9 is clamped between one of the washers 10 or 11 respectively and one of the faces planes of the cylindrical box.
The washer 10 is fixed to the end of a sleeve 13 engaged on the shaft 1 and being able to turn on the latter. The end of this sleeve 13 forms a toothed wheel 14 which engages with a pinion 15 to ensure the driving of the time marking device. As seen in fig. 2, the washer 10 has a notch near its upper part, which notch in which is engaged a projecting part 16 of the washer 11, so as to make the two washers 10 and 11 integral in rotation with one another.
A screw 17 is screwed into the flange 6, so as to abut against the part 7 and prevent any angular displacement between the latter and the flange 6 when the latter has been placed in position. By screwing the flange 6 more or less into the part 7, a more or less strong compression is exerted on the. elastic washer 12, which makes it possible to adjust the pressure exerted on the linings 8 and 9 and, consequently, the value of the maximum torque that can be transmitted by the shaft 1 to the sleeve 13 by the friction between the cylindrical box, the linings 8 and 9 and washers 10 and 11.
The plate 3 also carries an exhaust device comprising a balance 18 subjected to the action of a tension spring 49, and cooperating with a drive finger 19 which is fixed eccentrically on a pin 20 carrying a pinion 21. This finger 19 cooperates with a slot 22 of the balance wheel 18, which slot has two shoulders against which the finger 19 abuts alternately each time it has made a rotation of half a turn. This exhaust device is not described in more detail here, because it is known and is the subject of Swiss patent No. 273135.
The finger 19 is driven by means of the pinion 21 and a toothed wheel 23 integral with a pinion 24. The latter is driven in rotation by the device which is shown in detail in FIGS. 3 and 4.
The latter device comprises a first wheel 25 which is driven by the pinion 15 and to which is fixed an annular part 26 by means of two screws 27 and 28. The wheel 25 is provided with an axle 29, one of which is ex-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
end 30 is intended to pivot in a not shown hole of a second plate 31 (fig. 2), which is also crossed by the pinion 5 at the end of the shaft 1. The other end 32 of the shaft 29 is intended to pivot in a bore provided in a toothed wheel 33 fixed by a nut 34 to the plate 3. With reference to FIG. 3, a second toothed wheel 35 is mounted loose on the axis 29 and is coaxial with the wheel 25.
In fig. 2, there is shown in phantom lines the locations occupied by the wheels 25 and 35 when the device shown in FIG. 3 is put in position. The wheel 35 forms a rotating part, the speed of rotation of which is limited by the exhaust device, since this wheel 35 is in engagement with the pinion 24 of the exhaust device. It is driven by the rotary member formed by the wheel 25, by means of an elastic element formed by a spring 36 (FIG. 4) which is fixed, on the one hand, to a finger 37 integral with the wheel. 35 and, on the other hand, by a finger 38 of the annular part 26.
A locking mechanism of the rotary member, that is to say of the wheel 25, is controlled by the driven rotating part, which is formed by the wheel 35, so as to periodically block and unlock the wheel 25 and allow it to turn at a determined angle each time it is released. This mechanism ensures the unlocking each time the wheel 35 has rotated by a determined angle, and the locking each time the wheel 25 has rotated a determined angle.
This mechanism comprises a planetary gear train 39 to 43 mounted on axes pivoting between the first wheel 25 and the annular part 26 which is integral with it. The first pinion 39 of the gear train meshes with the fixed toothed wheel 33 when the device is mounted between the plates 3 and 31 and therefore occupies the position shown in FIG. 1. In fig. 4, the portion of toothed wheel 33 which is engaged with pinion 39 has been shown.
It should be noted that the wheel 35 has several recesses for the passage of the supports of the screws 27 and 28 and the toothed wheels of the planetary gear train, these recesses being sufficiently large to allow the wheel 35 to pivot by relative to the wheel 25 by an angle greater than that corresponding to the spacing of two adjacent teeth of the wheel 25.
The last pinion 43 -. of the planetary gear train drives a finger 44 which extends radially with respect to the axis of rotation of this pinion. This finger 44 is placed so as to come into contact with a stop 45 of the second wheel 35, so as to block the first wheel 25 and not release it until the second wheel 35 has turned sufficiently so that the stop 45 is out of the way. of the finger path 44.
Finally, the teeth of the first wheel 25 engages with a lug of a lever 46 which is articulated at 47 on the plate 3 and subjected to the action of a return spring 48. This lever constitutes a movable element intended for to be moved by pulses regularly spaced in time to effect the time marks on the disc, not shown, which is driven by the pinion 5 at the end of the shaft 1.
The operation of the device described is as follows When the device is at rest, the finger 44 is not in contact with the stop 45 of the second wheel 35, because the latter has rotated relative to the wheel 25, under the action of the spring 36. When the shaft 1 is driven in rotation, it causes, via the sliding transmission device and the pinion 15, the driving of the first wheel 25. As soon as the vehicle has exceeded a minimum speed relatively low, for example 5 km / h, the wheel 25 is driven at a speed greater than that of the wheel 35, the speed of which is limited by the exhaust device. An angular displacement then occurs between the wheels 25 and 35 while the spring 36 is tensioned.
During the rotation of the wheel 25, the finger 44 is also driven in rotation by the intermediary of the gear train 39 to 43 which is in engagement with the fixed toothed wheel 33. The ratio of these gears is determined so that the finger 44 performs a complete rotation with respect to wheel 25 each time the latter has moved
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
angular. corresponding to the distance between two adjacent teeth of its periphery. As a result of the greater speed of rotation of the wheel 25 relative to the wheel 35, there is an angular offset between these two places, which causes the finger 44 to come into contact with the stop 45.
The rotation of this finger is therefore stopped, which at the same time produces the locking of the wheel 25, by means of the planetary gear train and of the fixed wheel 33. During this time, the wheel 35, which is still subjected to the force of the spring 36, continues to rotate at constant speed, by operating the exhaust device. When this wheel 35 has turned by an angle sufficient for the stop 45 to be out of the way of the finger 44, the latter can again turn, so that the wheel 25 is released.
The latter begins to rotate immediately under the action of the substantially constant torque which is exerted by the slip transmission device and it rapidly rotates through an angle corresponding to the distance between two of its teeth, while the finger 44 performs a full rotation. During this. displacement, the wheel 25 has rotated at a much higher speed than the wheel 35 which is braked by the exhaust device, so that when the finger 44 has made a complete rotation, it again comes into contact with the stop 45 of the wheel 35. The wheel 25 is again locked until the wheel 35 has turned enough to release the finger 44.
The wheel 25 therefore rotates in regularly spaced pulses, and of a value such that the periphery of this wheel travels at each pulse the distance separating two adjacent teeth. Each time the wheel 25 moves in rotation, the lever 46 undergoes an oscillation as a result of the action of a tooth of the wheel 25 on the lug of this lever.
The time between two successive oscillations of the lever 46 is much greater than the period of oscillation of the balance 18. In practice, this balance can be designed to perform ten oscillations per second, while the wheel 25 can be released each time the Balance wheel 18 has made four oscillations, which gives an oscillation period of 0.4 seconds to lever 46.
The device described is advantageous, because the torque exerted by the wheel 35 on the exhaust device is practically constant and independent of the energy which must be supplied to the lever 46 by the wheel 25. In fact, this torque is exerted only by the spring 36, and the friction that the end of the finger 44 can exert on the stop 45 which is fixed to the wheel 35 is negligible. It is thus possible to exert on the first wheel 25 a much greater torque than that which this wheel exerts on the second wheel 35 by means of the spring. In practice, the torque exerted on the wheel 25 is always at least two times greater than that due to the spring 36.
On the other hand, the sliding transmission device which has been described is of simple construction, since it only comprises rotating parts and, moreover, all the parts participating in the friction are enclosed in the cylindrical box formed by the flange. 6 and the part 7. It follows that these parts are protected from dust, and therefore operate under the best possible conditions, so that the torque transmitted to the pinion 15 hardly varies over time, and even after a very long period of operation.
