Waterproof case The present invention relates to a waterproof case, in particular for a clock movement, provided with at least one control member for an internal mechanism, which member comprises an operating head and a coaxial element secured thereto. this; this element is mounted in a cylindrical hole of the box with a sealing sleeve disposed between the wall of this hole and the aforementioned coaxial element.
This sealed box is characterized in that the sealing sleeve is made of a hard, non-metallic material, elastically deformable, and is assembled in a sealed manner to the control member, said sleeve being shaped and dimensioned in such a way. that, over at least part of its length, its periphery radially exerts on the wall of the hole in the box an elastic pressure sufficient to ensure the seal while allowing the control member to move with greasy friction.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, four embodiments of the object of the present invention.
Each of fig. 1 and 2 shows an embodiment, seen in section through the axis of the winding stem; fig. 3 is a similar section of the other two embodiments.
In the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the control member comprises a crown 1, of small thickness, with barrel 1a, and a winding stem 2 for a clockwork movement, of which only a small part of the stem is shown; the latter is fixed to the crown by screwing as usual its threaded section 2a in the threaded coaxial blind hole of the crown. During this operation, a sealing sleeve 3 and a nut 4 are already mounted on the section 2a of the winding stem, said nut preferably resting against the bearing surface which limits the two parts 2 and 2a of this stem, so that these two parts do not interfere with the fixing of the latter.
This sealing sleeve 3, which has the shape of a sleeve, the bottom 3a of which is pierced with a hole corresponding to the diameter of the threaded section 2a of the rod 2, is made of a hard, elastically deformable non-metallic material, for example in one of the Plexiglas or Celoron brand products or the Kel-F product.
This sleeve is assembled in a sealed manner to the barrel 1a of the crown by pressing the upper surface of its bottom 3a against that of the end of said barrel by means of the section 4a of the nut which penetrates with play into the sleeve and acts on the lower surface of its bottom 3a; two parallel and coaxial plates 5, made in part 4b of the largest diameter of the nut, allow this tightening to be easily carried out, during which the hole in the sealing sleeve and the adjacent section of the winding stem are used to automatically ensure the coaxiality of the cylindrical section 3b of the sleeve and the barrel of the crown,
both having the same diameter and being dimensioned to be able to rotate freely in the cylindrical hole of the body of the case and to serve as a support for the control member when the watch is wound up or the time is set.
The body of the box, schematically represented, is designated by 21. The sealing is achieved by the short cylindrical surface 3c of the section 3d which follows the section 3b of the sleeve and is fitted by friction in the hole of the body of the box ; said section ensures sealing by exerting a sufficient elastic pressure radially on the wall of the hole while allowing the control member to be rotated and axially moved, with heavy friction. This section 3d of smaller diameter than that of section 3b has its coaxial surfaces and its wall is relatively thin.
The pressure of the sleeve against the wall of the hole in the box could take place by two parts of its periphery by making a small groove in the surface 3b of the sleeve. In addition, one could interpose a thin washer of sealing, metallic or not, between the sleeve and the barrel of the crown.
It suffices to remove part 4b of the nut, to shorten the threaded section 2a of the winding stem and to lengthen the one 2 of the latter's large diameter, limiting it by a square span, to allow fix the crown to the winding stem and at the same time assemble, in a watertight manner, the sealing sleeve 3 to the barrel 1a of the crown. In order to be able to see the crown correctly positioned in relation to the case, we could have ron delles of different thicknesses available; the washer would then be interposed between the bearing surface of the rod and that of the nut.
A drawing is not necessary to see that we could fix the crown to the winding stem and at the same time seal the sealing sleeve 3 to the barrel 1a of the crown and to the stem of FIG. 1 by replacing the clamping nut 4 by a simple tubular part mounted freely on a cylindrical non-threaded section of said rod and which would bear against the bearing to the square limiting this section; the sealing sleeve would then be made automatically coaxial with the control member because it would be mounted even forcing a little on the upper end of the aforementioned cylindrical section.
A small space must then be left between the end of the winding stem and the bottom of the blind hole in the crown. The length of the tubular part which replaces the clamping nut 4, in this embodiment, being able to be reduced by that occupied by the part of larger diameter of said nut, the length of the device can therefore be reduced. The tubular part could also be shaped in such a way that only its upper end is fitted in the sealing sleeve near its pierced bottom, this so that it is automatically made coaxial with the control member during its fixing; for this purpose, it will be a little conical or its adjusted part will be short and of a diameter a little larger than that of the rest of the tubular part.
In this second embodiment, the upper section of the winding stem could present a small longitudinal groove into which a corresponding radial projection would penetrate, located in the hole in the bottom of the sealing sleeve and which would prevent the latter from rotating during of its assembly.
It is understood that the sealing sleeve could be in sealed contact with the wall of the hole of a tube integral with the body of the box; this will be the case, for example, when said body is relatively thin and then the tube will enter a circular groove in the crown, made so as to extend its barrel so that the section of the freely adjusted control member remains in the tube. tube and is well supported, even when setting the time of the watch. To complete the seal, the end of this tube could be in contact with a ring made of an elastic material housed in the bottom of this groove, when the crown is in the winding position.
In the third embodiment, shown in fig. 2, the sealing sleeve 3 is similar to that of FIG. 1; it differs only by the outer surface of its elastic section 3d which is a little conical instead of being cylindrical. But, in this case, this sleeve is mounted without play even by forcing a little on a smooth cylindrical section 2b of the remon toir rod 2 where it is fixed by means of a nut 4 identical to that of the first form d 'execution which, screwed onto the threaded part 2a of the rod preceding that 2b, blocks the bottom 3a of the sleeve against the bearing surface 2c at the square of the rod.
The winding crown 1 is screwed onto this same section of rod 2a until the end of its barrel 1 is fully tightened against the upper surface of the tightening nut 4; for this, the lon gueur of this section 2a is dimensioned so that there remains a space between its end and the bottom of the threaded blind hole of the crown; the cylindrical surface of the section 4b of larger diameter of the nut which, on a part, has at least one flat 5 to rotate it, is here of the same size as the barrel of the crown so that it is also in contact with the wall of the hole in the case when winding or resetting the watch.
According to fig. 2 it is easy to imagine a fourth embodiment in which it is possible to fix the crown to the winding stem while at the same time assembling, in a sealed manner, the sealing sleeve 3 to the latter; it suffices for this to extend the barrel of the crown by adding thereto, coming from manufacture, a part identical to the tightening nut 4, without the means to rotate it, of course.
In this embodiment, and the third also, it goes without saying that the scope 2c of the winding rod 2, against which the sealing sleeve 3 is clamped, could be enlarged by a thin collar of said rod; in addition, the lower end of said sleeve could be cylindrical and fit snugly into a groove with correspondingly shaped wall of this collar where it would be tightened and held radially. In addition, one could then place between these two parts a thin relatively soft metal washer.
To properly locate the crown in relation to the case, it would be possible, if necessary, to interpose between the bottom of the tubular part and the end of the barrel of the crown a ron delle of determined thickness in a soft metal, forming a seal . In the fifth embodiment, my trée on the right side of FIG. 3, the sealing sleeve 13 is a tubular part whose cylindrical upper part 13a ends in a collar 13b which is fitted in a recess of the crown coaxial with its barrel and limited by the latter where it is tightly fixed. by sage setting,
that is to say by pushing against the bevel 15 of this collar the material of the circular thread lb of the winding crown 1; the section 13a-13b of the sleeve is fitted to the barrel la of the crown with little or no play and it is the circumference of its cylindrical part 13a which is in free connection with the wall of the hole of the case during reassembly or the time setting of the watch. A good part of the barrel of the crown could be slightly eonic or cylindrical with a diameter of 2-3 / 100 mm smaller than that of the part opposite the collar of the sealing sleeve to allow for a little drilling, at this point only, the latter on said gun.
The cylindrical part 13a of the sleeve is followed by a tapered section lad terminated by a short cylindrical part of equal thickness, the outer surface 13c of which is dimensioned so as to force a little into the hole in the box and thus ensure the sealing by elastic reaction. The inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve parts 13d-13c could be made relative to each other so that the wall thickness of the assembly gradually decreases or increases from the base of the one 13d. .
One could remove the thread lb of the crown and fix the collar 13b of the sealing sleeve in the core of the crown by pushing the material of the latter on the bevel 15 of the collar by means of a drilled pin whose hole begins by an oblique surface.
In the sixth embodiment, shown on the left side of FIG. 3, the sealing sleeve, also tubular, is assembled in a sealed manner to the section 1c of the barrel of the crown 1 by forcing its cylindrical part 13a on this section until its end rests against the scope 1d to the square limiting the sections the and the barrel of the crown.
The two parts of these parts thus assembled are dimensioned so that that 13a of the sleeve enters in any case freely into the hole in the case where it serves as a support when winding or setting the time of the watch; the section 1a of the crown barrel may have the same diameter or, without inconvenience, be slightly smaller. The surface of the end of the tubular part 11a of the sleeve could be conical and penetrate into a similar coaxial recess of the section la of the barrel of the crown, as shown in dotted lines, where it will tend to slide to apply against that 1c this tubular part of the sleeve.
Sealing is achieved by the short cylindrical surface 3c which ends the section 3d of the sleeve, similar to that of FIG. 1, snug fit in the hole of the box. The outer surface of the upper section of the sealing sleeve of the fifth and sixth embodiments of FIG. 3, could be carried out so that it is in contact with the wall of the hole of the box over a portion of its length only and this towards its lower end, making the diameter of the other portion of 2-3 / 100 mm smaller.
To prevent any deformation of the elastic section 3c-3d of the sealing sleeve at the various temperatures to which the watch may be exposed, a deformation which could influence its friction and impair the water resistance, one could use a security part, placed at the bottom. 'inside this section, which would act by elastic reaction and prevent any untimely deformation thereof.
This security part could be a metal ring having a few relatively thin and somewhat conical blades, obtained by axial slots, a little forced inside the sealing section of the sleeve and which would react elastically towards the end. of this section. The elastic conical blades of the security part could have come from manufacture with a back whose central tapped hole would screw on the winding stem to allow adjustment of the elastic tension of said blades inside the section of the sleeve ensuring the sealing of the embodiments of FIG. 3.
The aforementioned safety part could be replaced by a wire spring of circular or rectangular section, formed of at least two turns or by a metal circle split over its entire height. By placing a thin metal circle inside this section of the sealing sleeve, the same result would be obtained. We could also force a synthetic rubber package between the inner surface of this section of the sealing sleeve and the winding stem; it would then be possible to perfect the seal with a relet seal of this package extending beyond said sleeve.
The short cylindrical surface of the sealing sleeve which fits snugly into the hole in the box could be replaced by a slightly domed surface.
The invention can also be applied to pushers of watch cases.
