En fig. 1, l'organe de commande com prend une couronne ,de man#uvre et une tige de remontoir dont la partie s'accouplant au mouvement d'horlogerie n'est pas représentée. La couronne 1, -de faible épaisseur, possède un canon taraudé intérieurement et présen tant -deux tronçons cylindriques coaxiaux 2 et 3;
Cette rondelle pourrait aussi être simplement maintenue sur ce dernier par une portée de la tige de remontoir 8, limitant la longueur de sa partie filetée 9, laquelle permet d'assembler la tige à la couronne, en 1a vissant, ou encore être intercalée entre une telle portée de la tige -et l'extrémité .du tron çon 3 un peu raccourci;
Dans cette forme d'exécution, la .carrure de la boîte, en deux pièces, est aussi partielle- ment représentée en traits mixtes pour qu'on puisse voir le paquetage tel qu'il est monté sur la tige .de remontoir;
Dans toutes les formes d'exécution repré sentées, le support du manchon élastique d'étanchéité, en une ou plusieurs pièces, est délimité par deux surfaces annulaires;
Waterproof case for watch movements and measuring devices. The object of the present invention is a sealed case, for watch movements and measuring devices, provided with at least one control member for an internal mechanism, which member comprises a work head and a part. coaxial integral with the latter and which is mounted in a cylindrical hole in the box with an elastic sealing sleeve disposed between the wall of the hole and the aforementioned coaxial part,
o characterized in that this sleeve, in at least one piece, is dimensioned so that it is clamped radially, in a leaktight manner, by the wall of the hole and similarly encloses said coaxial part of the control member , without undergoing axial clamping.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, three embodiments of the object of the present invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are axial vertical sections of the first, respectively of the second embodiment. Fig. 3 is an axial vertical section of the third embodiment -and FIG. 4 shows, in plan, a detail of this one.
In fig. 1, the control member com takes a crown, operating mechanism and a winding stem, the part of which mates with the clockwork movement is not shown. The crown 1, -of small thickness, has an internally threaded barrel and presents -two coaxial cylindrical sections 2 and 3;
the first, 2, of larger diameter, is sized to fit into hole 4 of caseband 5 of the case partially shown in phantom, while the other section, 3 ', is as small as possible and very smooth , serves as a support for the elastic, sealing sleeve 6, for example of the material known under the trade designation of "plexigum". This sleeve is mounted freely, that is to say with a clearance between the shoulder delimiting the two sections 2 and 3 and the surface of a washer 7, forced onto the end of the section 3.
This washer could also be simply held on the latter by a bearing of the winding stem 8, limiting the length of its threaded part 9, which makes it possible to assemble the stem to the crown, by screwing it in, or else be interposed between a such scope of the rod -and the end .du section 3 a little shortened;
in this case, the ron delle being thin would surround a cylindrical part located after the threaded one. The first way of doing things is very advantageous because it makes it possible to deliver crowns ready to be screwed together carrying the elastic sleeve and the thrust washer which it is consequently impossible to lose.
Thus mounted, the control member is ready to be coupled to the movement in the known manner; for this, we first introduce the winding stem into hole 4 of the case rure where it is pushed by force, by the shoulder of the two sections 2 and 3. of the crown 1, the sleeve or package 6 which has, in the free state, a larger diameter than that of said hole.
The package being then compressed, it encloses the section 3 ,, so that the sealing of the control member -is achieved both with the hole in the box and said section .3-which, given its small diameter compared to that of the sleeve, will rotate in the latter, when winding or setting the time of the watch. It goes without saying that, to allow this last operation to be carried out, the washer 7 will have to drive the sleeve into.
the longitudinal displacement of the control member when the latter is brought into its time-setting position. The. dimensions of the hole in the box and of section 3 being determined by their construction, those of the package will be imposed by the sealing conditions to be achieved and will depend on the physical properties of the material used; it is understood that, depending on the case, the package will be previously mounted on its slightly forced support, free or with radial play.
If we compare this construction with the devices in which the sleeve rotates with the control member, we realize that it provides the very great advantage of greatly reducing friction; the friction being greatly reduced, the winding is gentle and no longer prevents the ratchet from turning back and pressing against the pawl at the end of this operation. The "rebattement" of the balance, well known to specialists, with all the faults and accidents which. results are thus avoided.
In the. second embodiment, shown in fig. 2, the elastic sealing sleeve 16 is in two pieces and surrounds a smooth cylindrical part l'0 of the mounting rod 18, following on from its threaded part 19 which allows it to be fixed. by screwing to the crown 11; this double sleeve is here mounted, also with axial play, between the end of the barrel 28, the crown and a washer 17 which bears against the bearing surface defining the support 10 for the paque tage.
If the diameter of the body of the shank 18 roughly matched that of the barrel 22 of the crown, this washer could be omitted and then the package would be dragged by the reach of the shank when operating the control member. to put the movement mechanism in the time setting position.
In this case, if the rod -is made of ordinary hardened steel and is not protected against rust, it will be necessary to size the hole in the package -and the distance between the end of the barrel 22 of the crown and the washer 17 so that once forced into the hole in the box the bases of the package are in contact with the annular surfaces serving as stops to prevent water from coming into contact with the stem, on the barrel side of the crown .
To decrease the friction which may result therefrom, and to prevent the pack from being secured to the actuator by axial pressure, these annular surfaces are tapered so that this friction occurs near the center of the bases of the pack. Thus, during reassembly, or when setting the time, the rod will nevertheless turn in the package which remains immobile for the reasons already explained in the description of the first embodiment.
A thin rigid washer with a diameter-smaller than that of the package -and interposed between the two sleeves of the latter -would reserve a space to serve as a lubricator for -the device.
In this embodiment, the case of the two-piece case is also partially shown in phantom so that the package can be seen as it is mounted on the winding stem;
in addition, the double sleeve 16 -is forced into the hole of a tube integral with the box, part of which penetrates into a circular groove 23 of the crown, formed around the barrel 2, 2, of the latter. To protect the sleeve, the end of the tube could come into contact with a protective ring, made of elastic material, housed in the bottom of this groove.
In the third embodiment, shown in FIG. 3 'and 4, the elastic sealing sleeve 6, is mounted on a tubular part 25, of stainless metal, internally threaded, with collar 26 @, shown at the end in FIG. 4, having two parallel flats 27 for screwing it like a nut on the threaded part 9, of the winding rod 8, the end of which is screwed into the crown 11; a thin washer 28, which is not essential, is interposed between the collar and the sleeve.
When this assembly is carried out, all that remains is to block the tubular part against the end of the barrel of the crown by screwing it. The support tube 25 being thin, to reduce friction and to keep the thickness of the sleeve as great as possible, it was reinforced by increasing the diameter of its end so as to have a small collar 29 which s' em box exactly in, a coaxial core, to to conical bottom,
performed at the end of the crown barrel; the end of the collar 29 is also conical so that by blocking the tubular part, it has the tendency to be forced against the wall of the core. A thin washer in soft metal, copper or aluminum, for example, interposed between these two parts to be assembled in a sealed manner,
would make it easy to obtain this result. So as.sem # wheat, the controller is ready -to to be introduced into the hole in the box; the sealing sleeve being mounted on its support like that of the first embodiment, its operation will be similar. A circular groove made in the crown makes it possible to partially accommodate therein a protective ring 21, of elastic material, intended to come into contact with an upright surface of the box, to protect the package housed in the hole thereof.
. It -is of course that the support 215 could be executed in another way, without tapping for example, and assembled differently to the barrel of the crown, for example by screwing and blocking it against the taking support support against a bearing of the winding stem.
The support could still be simply a tube blocked in the same way against a washer resting against a bearing surface of the rod.
In all the embodiments shown, the support of the elastic sealing sleeve, in one or more parts, is delimited by two annular surfaces;
this way of doing -is indicated for any normal box with respect to the size of the movement, but if the box is enlarged and contains an enlarging circle or -is enlarged according to Swiss patent Nc 241710, the support of fig. 1 and 3, for example, can,
then be made long enough so that once forced into the hole of the box even the annular surface of the crown, the sleeve remains in this position when the control member is brought into that of mine at the time of the watch.
With equal tightness, the device according to the invention has, compared to those already known, obvious advantages: it is very simple, easy to manufacture and to assemble and it makes it possible to use the elastic properties of the sleeve properly,. reduce as much as possible the diameter of the hole in the case, the height of the crown and, which is also very important, the friction of the control member.
Of course, the invention also applies to the winding stems of movements for pocket watches.
