Fixing and closing mechanism for a hinged door The present invention relates to a fixing and closing mechanism for a hinged door.
This mechanism may be particularly suitable for rubber doors or other flexible doors such as those used in factories or other places where trucks pass through heavy traffic, the doors flexing first under. shock and then revolving around their hinges or pivot mounting devices but can also be used for swing doors of rigid construction.
The mechanism according to the present invention is characterized in that it comprises a vertical tube on which is fixed an interior edge of the door, a helical torsion spring housed inside the tube, two rotating anchoring elements arranged at inside and rotatable within the tube and connected to opposite ends of the res out, respectively, a fixed central vertical rod extending through the tube from one end through openings in the anchor elements of the res out , two fixed stops, at least one of which is fixed to the rod, serving to prevent the rotation of the spring anchoring elements in opposite directions respectively,
and spring loading elements controlled by the door and acting on one or the other of the spring anchoring elements depending on the opening direction of the door, the arrangement being such that, when the door is open in one direction the spring is charged from the upper end with the lower end held in place, while when the door is or green in the opposite direction the spring is charged from the lower end with the upper end being held in place.
One of the spring anchoring elements may have the form of a cylindrical plug constituting a bearing for the tube and being carried by a head portion external to the latter, said head portion being provided with a stud capable of engage with one of the stop devices to keep the adjacent end of the spring stationary when the door is opened in one direction, while the spring is loaded from the other end, said stud being fit, when the door is opened in the opposite direction, to move with the door which then binds the spring from the end attached to said spring anchoring element,
while the spring is held in place at its opposite end by the stopper attached to the central rod.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a rubber door, intended particularly for factories and provided with the fixing and closing mechanism constituting this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation, on a larger scale, of the mechanism, part of the door being omitted.
Fig. 3 is a view on a larger scale showing the spring closing means, the spring being seen in section and showing in elevation the fixed central rod.
Fig. 4 is a field view of the upper part of the door.
Fig. 5 is a section taken along the line V-V of FIG. 2, on a larger scale.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the lower anchoring element of the spring.
The door shown is flexible and consists of a sheet 1 of rubber reinforced with canvas, the vertical inner edge and the top edge of the rubber sheet being attached to metal tubes 2 and 3 respectively, leaving free the outer vertical edge and the lower edge, so that, under the impact of a truck, the door can yield along a diagonal from the lower inside corner to the upper outside corner .
The tubes 2 and 3 are welded to each other by their adjacent ends and they are also welded to the adjacent edges of a metal channel set 4 placed at the upper interior corner of the door, while the edges the top and the inside of the sheet 1 of reinforced rubber are clamped between metal bars 5 and 6, arranged on one side, and metal bars 5a and 6a, arranged on the other side, the metal bars 5 and 6 being welded to the respective tubes and the bars 5a and 6a (see fig. 4) being removable and being fixed to the bars 5 and 6 by screws 7 passing through the rubber.
Alternatively, the bars 5a and 6a can be welded at their ends to the adjacent ends of an oblique bar 8 disposed along the ridge of the groove set 4.
On the lower end of the vertical tube 2 is fixed an extension sleeve 9 and, in this sleeve, is screwed a cylindrical plug 10. This plug 10 can be screwed more or less deeply into the sleeve 9 and be blocked by a nut locking 11 (Fig. 2), its lower end terminating in a head 10a having pin holes to allow it to be rotated. A conical recess is made in its lower face and this recess is engaged on a vertical conical pivot 12 which is fixed to the ground.
The elements 10 and 12 therefore constitute a lower pivot bearing around which the door can turn when it is opened and closed; by adjusting the position of the cap 10 screwed inside the sleeve 9, the distance of the door from the ground can be changed at will.
The vertical tube 2 contains a helical torsion coil spring 13, and in the upper end of said tube is placed a cylindrical anchoring element of the spring 14, element mounted so as to be able to execute a relative rotation. This spring anchoring element 14 comprises a protruding part which fits closely inside the tube 2 and constitutes an upper bearing element, and an outer cylindrical head 15 of greater diameter.
The anchoring element 14 has one or axial verture; through this opening passes without play a fixed central vertical rod 16 which penetrates axially, over a certain length, inside the tube 2, while its upper end is riveted or otherwise fixed to the swollen part of the tube 2. a horizontal upper fixing plate 17 intended to be attached by screws to the underside of the linen of the door frame. To the lower face of this fixing plate 17 is welded a stop piece 18 which passes inside an opening cut in the inner end of the tube 3 and which is adjacent to the circular circumference of the cylindrical head 15 of the spring anchoring element 14.
Said head 15 is provided with a stud 19 extending radially, which can come into engagement with the stop piece 18 and which extends outwardly beyond the latter so as to engage the inner end. horizontal upper tube 3, or a stop piece on said tube, one side of the tube being cut to allow such engagement.
The lower end of the spring anchoring element 14 is connected to the upper end of the torsion coil spring 13 by bending the end of the spring and engaging it in a slot 20 of said element, while the spring 13 is enclosed and hidden inside the vertical tube 2 and surrounds the fixed central rod 16.
The other end of the torsion spring 13 is fixed in a similar manner to a lower anchoring element of the spring 21, this fixing taking place by the engagement of a bent end of the spring in a slot 22 of this element 21. This anchoring element 21 is cylindrical in shape and fits precisely into the tube 2, but in such a way that relative rotation between these two parts is possible; it also has a central and axial bearing opening in hard engagement with the fixed rod 16.
The lower end of the spring anchoring element 21 has on one side an extension 23 in the form of a stepped segment, extending approximately over a half-circumference, with flattened shoulders at opposite ends, parallel to a diameter as shown in fig. 6. One of these shoulders is normally maintained, when the door is closed, by the torsion of the spring, in engagement with a stop pin 24 fixed on the central fixed rod 16, said pin being mounted in a diametral hole drilled in. the rod.
The segment-shaped extension 23 of the anchoring element 21 carries, on one side, a pin 25 for controlling the spring, also in the form of a segment (see FIG. 6), but arranged only on a portion of the spring. circumference of the extension 23, i.e. from the shoulder which is normally in engagement with the stop pin 24 attached to the rod. An edge of this tenon 25 is thus in alignment with the shoulder of the extension 23 which is normally in engagement with the stop pin 24 fixed on the central rod. This ridge of the tenon 25 is in engagement with a transverse stud 26 which diametrically passes through the tube 2 just below the lower end of the central rod.
The arrangement of the stop pieces 18 and 24 at the upper and lower ends is such that, while the two anchoring elements of the spring 14 and 21 are held by the stop pins due to the torsion of the spring 13, when the door is closed, the stud 19 on the spring anchoring element 14 is moved away from its stop piece 18 when the door is opened in one direction, and the lower anchoring element of the spring 21 is moved away from its stop pin 24 when the door is opened in the other direction.
In operation, when the door is or green in one direction, the end of the upper horizontal tube 3, or the stop piece attached thereto, acts by the pin 19 on the upper anchoring element of the spring 14 and makes turn the latter so as to force the spring 13, said pin 19 moving away from the stop piece 18 welded to the upper fixing plate 17. During this movement, the lower anchoring element of the spring 21, and consequently, the lower end of the spring 13 is prevented from rotating by the extension 23 in engagement with the stop pin 24 fixed on the fixed central rod 16; the transverse pin 26 fixed in the tube 2 is released from the pin 25 for controlling the spring.
When the door is released, it is returned to its closed position by the spring 13 acting through the upper anchoring element of the spring 14 and the pin 19. When the door is opened in the opposite direction, the upper anchoring element of the spring 14 is maintained because of its stud 19 coming into engagement with the stop piece 18 welded to the fixing plate; the upper tube 3 moves away from said pin 19. On the other hand, the transverse pin 26 fixed on the vertical tube 2 now acts on the pin 25 for controlling the spring, causing the latter to move away from the pin of stop 24 fixed on the central rod and tape the res comes out from its lower end.
The cylindrical head 15 of the upper anchor member of the spring 14 can have a number of spaced holes, as shown, to receive a pin, by means of which the initial tension of the spring 13 can be varied as desired. .
