Typographic typesetting machine. The present invention relates to a typographic composing machine comprising die magazines, ser vant channels. in guiding the dies during their transfer from a distributor mechanism to the respective magazines, and for each of these ma-, @ asins a support frame having a bearing on which the upper end of the magazine is intended to rest by gravity.
The composing machine according to the invention is earaeterized in that it is provided with means intended to exert a thrust serving to maintain the magazine in contact with said bearing surface so as to ensure the coming into exact position of the end. discharge of the channel and the upper receiving end of the magazine.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the upper portion of a magazine base frame included in the machine.
Fig. 2 is a partial cross section of a magazine and its supporting frame, the magazine being shown in its normal, i.e. locked position.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2, but representing the store raised and unlocked rusty.
In the embodiment of the machine shown in the drawing, the dies are. delivered to. their respective receiving channels forming part of a store 1, after their passage through a channel inlet 2, from the distributor. During the composition, the dies are released from the lower end which is the discharge end of the magazine by the known and not shown exhausts.
The store is mounted on a base frame 3 which is provided with a longitudinal member called the central board 4, pivotally mounted and provided with a tongue 5 at its lower end. At its upper end, the central plank is pivotally assembled with the frame 3 by means of lateral pins 6, and said central plank has a longitudinal groove 7 (fig. 1).
intended to receive and guide the known longitudinal central bar 8 of the store. The central bar 8 is fixed on the underside. . of the store using a series of parallel transverse ribs 9 and it is slightly shorter than the store; so that the latter slightly overhangs said bar.
The store rests on staves to support the frame 3 at its upper ends and. lower, the upper bearing surface being designated by 3a: In addition, the magazine is both placed in position and supported by the contact of the lower end of the central bar 8 against the ilanguette 5. A known device, not shown, is intended to prevent the magazine from slipping and detaching from the lower end of the center bar.
When the machine is equipped with several magazines, these and their respective base frames are grouped and juxtaposed in very close parallel positions and, in order to facilitate the removal and re-installation of said magazines,
the compact group of magazines is first spread out to clear the one of magazines to be removed, then the magazine is lifted away from the base frame by pivoting it upward to move its lower end away from the base frame. the central board 4. To carry out this lifting of the magazine away from the central board, we lower a lever 10 mounted on the left side, looking at the drawing, of the base frame 3.
This lever (fig. 3) is connected to a central cam 11 by a horizontal oscillating shaft 12 mounted in the frame 3; and this cam 11 is provided on its side with a latch 11c directed upwards and which is intended to engage with a pin projecting laterally from the central board 4, in the raised position of this board.
The upper surface of the cam 11 is placed below a pendant arm 13, mounted so as to pivot freely in the frame 3 above the swing shaft 12, and the arrangement is such as when turning ner the cam 11 by the oscillating shaft in the sinistrorsum scns, from the position indicated in fig. 2 in the position shown in fig. 3, the on the upper face of the plate,
acting on the arm 13, like a cam, rotates this arm upwards in the dextrorsulm direction to apply it against the underside of the central board 4, which has the effect of raising both this plate 4 and the store. that it supports. The latch 11a maintains the central board in its raised position while the operations of removing and replacing the magazine are carried out. The operation is reversed by raising the lever 10.
As explained above, the dies stored in the store fall under the action of gravity in the lower end of said store,
so that the upper part of the magazine does not always have sufficient weight to ensure that this part rests properly against the upper bearing surface 3a, especially if the lower plate is slightly bent or warped.
This state of affairs has the consequence that the upper receiving end of the magazine is not positioned exactly in the alignment of the entrance of the channel, so that a regular passage is not offered to the dies between. these elements.
To ensure that the correct relative positions of the store and the channel entry are maintained, a retaining member established in the form of a hook carried by a spring 15 is intended to exert a thrust on the store to force it to lean against its staff 3a.
The spring 15 is fixed by its lower end to the base frame 3, directly below the central board 4, while its upper end in the form of a hook extends across and above this board, the upper end of the grooved portion of said board being for this purpose notched, as indicated at 4a. The location and the inflection towards the front of the spring 15 are such that this spring bears against the lower edge 4b of the notch 4a, so that it follows the central board in movement.
that it performs when it is pivoted towards the base frame 3 or away from this frame. The hook of the spring 15 is intended to engage the upper end of the central bar 8 of the magazine and., As the central plank descends towards and against the base frame 3, the spring 15 is returned by an action cam against the frame in the posi tion shown in fig. 2,
this spring being calculated to exert a force of the order of 9 to 12 kg on the upper end of the gasin. It has been found that this thrust is sufficient to provide adequate support. When lifting the central plank 4 (fig. 3), the hooked end of the spring moves forward, following the edge 4a of the indentation of the central plank and while exerting a push on the center bar 8, so that the magazine can easily be removed and replaced.
The raising and lowering of the central board are always necessary when changing the magazines and, given that the operations of locking and unlocking the hook of the spring 15 are automatically governed by the movement of the central board. , no additional manual effort is imposed on the operator.
Alternatively, the magazines could be tilted 37 degrees to the horizontal.
