Additional patent to main patent no. 302153. Process for the production of an azo dye containing cobalt. It has been found that a new, valuable, cobalt-containing azo dye can be obtained by using a mixture of the two monoazo dyes corresponding to the formulas
EMI0001.0009
allow the cobalt-releasing agent to act in such a way that an azo dye containing cobalt is formed,
.which contains one molecule of each of the two output monoa, zo dyes bound to a complex atom.
The new cobalt-containing dye is a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from weakly alkaline, neutral or weakly acidic baths in olive-brown shades of good lightfastness and washfastness.
The two monoazo dyes used as starting materials in the present process can be prepared by methods known per se. 2 -amino-1-oxybenzene is coupled with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyra, zolon-3'-sulfonic acid amide in an alkaline medium.
When carrying out the process, it is generally advisable to use a total of about 2 mol of monoazo dye and each about. 1 mol of the two dyes used as starting materials contains a mixture of about one gram atom of cobalt. containing amount of a cobalt-releasing agent and / or performing the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. There are z.
For example, simple cobalt salts such as cobalt acetate or complex cobalt compounds are particularly well-suited as cobalt-releasing agents for carrying out the process;
The conversion of the dyes into the complex cobalt compounds takes place with advantage in the heat, open or under pressure, z. B. at. Boiling temperature of the reac tion mixture, optionally in the presence of suitable additives, for. B. in the presence of salts of organic acids, bases, orga African solvents or other agents promoting complex formation.
Example: 3.66 parts of the dye from diazotized 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene and 1-acetylamino-7-oxynaphthalene and 4.08 parts of the dye from diazotized 4-chloro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene and 1-phenyl-3 methyl-5-pyra.zo-ion-3'-sulfonic acid amide, both dyes in the form of a moist paste (filter cake),
are stirred with the addition of 4 parts of sodium hydroxide in 300 parts of 80 warm water and 20 parts of a cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content of 3.25%

correspond, lets the cobalt-releasing agent act in such a way that an azo dye containing cobalt is formed,
which contains one molecule of each of the two starting monoazo dyes bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new cobalt-containing dye is a water-soluble powder that dyes wool from weakly alkaline, neutral or weakly acidic baths in olive-brown shades of good lightfastness and washfastness.
SUBClaims: 1. Method according to patent claim, characterized in that one adds per molecule. After about half an hour of stirring at 80, the metallization is complete. The complex formed can be deposited by acidification with acetic acid or by adding sodium chloride.
