Process for the production of a cobalt-containing azo dye. It has been found that a new, valuable, cobalt-containing azo dye can be obtained by using a mixture of the two monoazo dyes that correspond to the formulas

correspond, allows cobalt-releasing agents to act in such a way that an azo dye containing cobalt is formed,
which contains one molecule of each of the two original monoazo dyes bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new cobalt-containing dye is a water-soluble powder that dyes full of weakly alkaline, neutral or weakly acetic bath in brown shades of good light and washfastness.
The two monoazo dyes used in the present process as .iusmangstoffe can be prepared by methods known per se by diazotized amino-1-oxybenzene-4-methylsulfone with 1- .lcetylamino-i-oxyrlaphtha.lin and diazotized ainino-1-oxybenzene- 4-sulfonic acid methylamide with 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone in each case in an alkaline medium.
When performing the procedure recommends. it is generally considered to use an amount of a cobalt-releasing agent containing about one gram atom of cobalt on a mixture consisting of about 2 11o1 monoazo dye and containing about 1 mol of each of the two dyes used as starting materials and / or to carry out the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium.
For example, simple cobalt salts such as cobalt acetate or complex cobalt compounds of aliphatic o-oxycarboxylic acids which contain the cobalt in complex bonds are particularly well suited as cobalt-releasing agents for carrying out the process.
The conversion of the dyes into the complex cobalt compounds takes place advantageously in the heat, openly or under pressure, e.g. B. at the boiling point of the reaction mixture cal, optionally in the presence of appro neter additives, eg. B. in the presence of salts of organic acids, bases, organic solvents or other agents promoting complex formation.
Example: 3.99 parts of the dye from diazotized 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-methylsulfone and 1-acetylamino-7-oxynaphthalene and 4.21 parts of the dye from diazotized 2-amino -l- oxybenzol - 4 - sulfonic acid methylamide and 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, both dyes in the form of a moist paste (filter cake), are added with 1,
4 parts of sodium hydroxide in 600 parts of 80 warm water and mixed with 20 parts of a cobalt sulfate solution with a cobalt content of 3.25%. After about half an hour of stirring at 80, the metallization is complete. The complex formed can be deposited by acidification with acetic acid or by adding sodium chloride,
