Les vis du distributeur sont constamment entraînées par l'intermédiaire d'un em brayage à partir de l'arbre d'entraînement intermédiaire non représenté, qui actionne une poulie 4 à l'aide d'une courroie 5. La pou lie 4 est montée librement sur un # arbre horizontal 6 entre deux collets 7 qui empêchent son jeu axial;
23a (fig. 3) et une portion 23b. (fig.
Distribution mechanism of dies for typographic machines. The present invention relates to a distribution mechanism for letterpress machines comprising rotary distribution screws serving to drive dies along a distribution bar to bring them to a magazine, these distribution screws being controlled by the machine. 'Intermediate a clutch capable of being put out of action as a result of the axial displacement of one of the screws during an excessive force due to wedging of the dies.
The mechanism is characterized in that said clutch comprises a control member and a controlled member capable of being moved away from the control member in the axial direction with a view to interrupting the control of the timing screws, said controlled member being arranged to be able to be brought into the disengaged position following an axial movement of one of the distribution screws during an excessive force.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the mechanism which is the subject of the invention applied to a typographic machine.
Fig. 1 is a front view of the mechanism applied to a typographic machine.
Fig. 2 and 3 are sections through lines 2-2 and 3-3 respectively of fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the upper part of the machine. Fig. 5 is a detail view, partly in section, showing the way in which one of the controlled parts is keyed on its shaft.
In the letterpress machine partially shown in the drawing, the dies are driven during the distribution along a distribution bar, not shown, by two upper rotating worm screws 1 and a single lower screw 1a, until they reach the points where they must be released in order to fall by their own weight, by means of a short store entrance 2 (fig. 4) into channels 3 which are in use at the time envisaged.
The screws 1 and the are supported at their ends. by bearings A, themselves mounted on a horizontal cross member of the distributor frame B comprising arms B1 rising from the base frame of the machine. The upper screws 1 have no axial play, but the lower screw 1a, although taking normal support on the right bearing A, by looking. fig. 1, has the possibility of making a slight axial movement to the left.
The distributor screws are constantly driven by means of a clutch from the intermediate drive shaft, not shown, which actuates a pulley 4 by means of a belt 5. The pulley 4 is mounted freely on a # horizontal shaft 6 between two collars 7 which prevent its axial play;
and a driven disc 8, the left side of which (fig. 1 and 3) is intended, under normal conditions, to rest on the side of the controlled pulley 4 so as to be frictionally coupled with said pulley, is fixed to a threaded sleeve 10, which is assembled using a sliding key with the shaft 6.
The driving connection with the upper screws 1 is completed by a toothed wheel 11 mounted on the shaft 6 and a group of toothed wheels generally designated by 12 (fig. 1), while the driving connection with the lower screw 1a is completed by means of a toothed wheel 13 mounted at the right end (fig. 3) of its support shaft, which is extended beyond the bearing A.
The horizontal shaft 6 is supported by a casting part C forming part of the frame B of the distributor and it is rotatably mounted in a bearing 14 of this part. As can be seen clearly in fig. 2 and 5, the sleeve 10 is grooved (fig. 5), for. allow the displacement of the driven disc 8 either towards and up to the position where it is coupled to the driving pol lie 4, known away from this position.
The shaft 6 presents at its right end, looking at fig. 1 a recess suitable for receiving a spring. compression 17 and a pusher 18 which, in. acting on a key 15, maintains the friction coupling between the disc and the pulley.
This right end of the shaft 6 is extended beyond the bearing 14 and it is threaded, on the one hand, to allow the mounting of a maneuvering knob with a thumbwheel 16 and threaded, on the other hand, to receive an adjusting screw 19 which adjusts the thrust exerted by the spring 17.
As explained previously, in order to prevent the risk of deterioration of the dies and parts of the machine, which can occur when one or more of the ma tricies become lodged in the screws of the distributor, the lower screw 1a is mounted so as to be able to move axially in its bearings, to the left, under the action of a cam, @ce axial movement of the lower screw 1e being taken advantage of. to disengage.
To this end, two cooperating members, 20 and 25, having the shape of an inverted U (fig. 1 and 3), are intended to transmit to the release mechanism, with great sensitivity. , the slightest movement to the left of said lower screw 1a.
The U-shaped member 20, the interconnected branches of which are designated by 20a and 20b, is suspended in an oscillating manner, by a small front-rear pivot pin 21, from the frame B of the distributor, while the member in U 25, provided with arms 25a and 25b, is pivotally mounted on the front portion of the molded part C with the aid of a small horizontal pivot axis 26 (Fig. 1).
The arm 20a carries at its lower end a roller 22 which, under the tension of a spring 24, acts on the left face of the toothed wheel 13 (FIG. 1) and thus maintains the lower screw 1a in its normal position. right. The other arm, 20b, carries a plate 23 which has a vertical edge forming. knife. 23a (fig. 3) and a portion 23b. (fig. 1) protruding downwards.
The knife 23a is normally in contact with the rear edge of a plate 25c, which is fixed to the aforesaid arm 25a of the member 25. The arm 25b carries at its lower end a small flat roller 27; and a compression spring 28, acting on the or gane 25 above the pivot pin 26, maintains this roller 27 constantly. ready to enter contact with threaded sleeve 10.
This tendency is however normally counteracted by the knife 23a, until this knife has pivoted away from the path of the plate 25c, following the axial displacement of the screw lac, said roller 27 then being able to '' engage with one of the threads of the rotating bush 10, so that, by acting like a cam, this roller moves said bush to the right along the shaft 6, disengaging therefore the driven disc 8, which is fixed to the threaded sleeve, as it was previously. previously explained, hitherto frictionally coupled with the cooperating face of the driving pulley 4.
As soon as the disc 8 has been disengaged following an abnormal condition existing in the distributor, means are intended to lock the clutch in - its disengaged position until that it is manually brought back to its working position to resume operation of the machine. To this end, an adjustable slide 29, mounted in the molded part C (fig. 2 and 3), carries on its rear side two small rollers 29a.
The threaded sleeve 7.0 has at its right end a thin neck 31 which, during the rotation of the shaft 6, can rotate freely between the small ga lets 29a, but serves to move the slide 29 to the right when the sleeve is itself moved during disengagement.
As can be seen clearly in fig. 1 and 2, the correct position of the slide 29 in part C is determined by a vertical locating pin 30 transversing a slot 29b (FIG. 2) of the slide and whose role is to allow said slide to perform a movement in sufficient length during disengagement.
The precise pre-positioning of the slider relative to the collar 31 is effected by an internal compression spring 29c and an adjustment v: s 29d, the first being used to hold the slider normally in a left position, determined by the adjustment of the screw, but can be compressed during disengagement when the slide 29 is moved to the right by the collar 31, as has just been described.
A spring loaded locking pawl 32 is pivotally mounted to the front of the support C and during normal operation of the dispenser this pawl is held out of its working position by a finger 33 directed downward from of the arm 25b.
It is however evident that when the roller 27 engages with the threaded sleeve 10 to move it to the right with the collar 31 and the slide 29 to disengage the clutch, the movement of the finger 33 inward allows spring loaded locking pawl 32 to move across the left end of slider 29 (fig. 2 and 3) and thus firmly hold the driven disc 8 away from the drive pulley 4 overcoming the thrust of the spring 17.
The operation of the mechanism described will now be summarized. - The screw drive mechanism of the distributor comprises the driving pulley 4, the disc 8 frictionally driven by this pulley, the horizontal shaft 6 with which the disc 8 is assembled from sliding way and a group of toothed wheels linking the screws to the shaft. Frictional contact between the driving and driven elements is normally provided by the compression spring 17.
Although the lower screw 1a normally occupies a position located against the right when looking at the fi. 1 under the action of spring 24 and roller 22, it can move axially to the left when one or more dies get stuck in the distributor, and such a displacement, however small it may be, causes the knife 23a out of the way of plate 25c,
thereby allowing the roller 28 to engage the thread of the sleeve 10 and; thereby to behave like a cam to bring the driven disc 8 away from the drive member 4. The movement of the sleeve 10 to the right, allowing the spring-loaded pawl 32 , which has previously been released by the movement of the roller 27 in engagement with the socket 10, to lock the slide 29 and, therefore, also the driven disc 8, in an inactive position.
After it has been disengaged, the clutch device can be quickly and conveniently returned to position in a single operation, as soon as the cause of the disturbance has been removed. To this end, the plate 25c is provided with a protruding portion which has a notch 25d of which a bevelled edge 25e (fig. 3) comes to rest on the overlapping protrusion 23b (fig. 1) during the movement. the plate 25c towards the front and rotates the organ 20 in the sinistrorsum direction, looking at fig. 1,
thus returning the screw to its normal right-hand position, via the roller 22, and the knife 23a on the path of the plate 25c. The U-member 25 is provided with an operating handle 25f directed upwards and which can easily be pushed inwards, overcoming the antagonistic force of the spring 28, to facilitate this. repositioning operation.
As shown in fig. 3, the support C is provided with an upper protruding portion C1, serving to limit the pivoting of the member 25 during the return to position, so that the protrusion 23b always remains placed inside the notch. 25d, that is to say that it does not risk being brought by a cam action out of said notch.
The store entrance 2 is mounted on two arms 35 (FIG. 4) articulated on the arms B1 of the frame of the distributor, and it can be made to vote towards the rear to have access to the interior parts, of course, if an attempt was made to dispense dies while the store was away from its working position, the dies could not return to the appropriate channels in the store and, in fact, would fall and randomly scatter at the top of the machine. To guard against such a risk, and as an additional safety, there is automatic disengagement of the clutch each time the store entrance has been brought away from its working position.
Thus, a lever 36 pivots on the bearing A located to the right of the machine and is provided with a bevelled finger 37 (fig. 3 and 4) directed upwards and intended to come into contact with the head of a screw 38 carried by the aforementioned arm 20a of the member 20.
The finger 37 is normally biased towards the rear, that is to say in the extrorsum direction in FIG. 4, by a compression spring 39 acting on said lever 36, which forces the bevelled portion of the finger, due to its contact with the screw 38, to act like a cam to move the member 20 towards the left, looking at fig. 1 and, as has already been described, thereby disengaging the clutch.
However, that of the arms 35 supporting the magazine entrance which is located on the right carries a screw 40 which, when the magazine entrance 2 is in its working position, acts on the lever 36 so as to overcome the force exerted by the spring 39 and, consequently, to bring the finger 37 to a position where it is no longer in contact with the screw 38.
