Machine-outil automatique.

Automatic machine tool. In the automatic machine tools currently in use, a single camshaft actuated in an uninterrupted manner and possibly divided into several sections carries all the cams necessary for the automatic control, on the one hand, of all the successive operations necessary for the operation. 'machining of the part and, on the other hand, to the feeding of the part holder.
Consequently, all operations must be controlled and carried out during a single revolution of the camshaft. It follows that the total machining time of a part must frequently be increased in order to prevent certain cam lifts from being too steep. Thus, it very often happens that the time required for machining a part reaches an inadmissible value, simply because it is not possible to reduce the time required to feed the workpiece holder with below a minimum time given by the characteristics of the machine.
It is clear that this state of affairs is particularly disadvantageous when it comes to the machining of parts on which the same operation must be carried out along different radial planes whose axis of intersection forms: or not a angle with the axis of rotation of the part (gears, cutters, drills, splined parts, etc.).
The present invention relates to an automatic machine tool, comprising at least one workpiece holder, at least one tool holder, rotary cams and an actuating motor. This machine tends to obviate the inconvenience cited by the fact that it comprises two camshafts and a reversing device causing automatically and alternately the drive of one and the other of said camshafts. , one of the latter carrying all the cams necessary for controlling all the operations necessary for machining the part from a blank, the other carrying at least the cams necessary for controlling the operations required to feed the workpiece carrier.
The accompanying drawing shows, schematically and by way of example; a fully automatic dental burr milling machine fitted with two independent camshafts.

Fig. 10 is a view of a blank of the dental bur. Fig. 11 is a view of a dental bur. The machine tool shown in the drawing is intended more specifically for machining dental burs from a blank, but it is clear that other machine tools can also be provided with two independent camshafts actuated alternately.
According to fig. 1 of the appended drawing, the machine comprises a motor 111 actuating, via a clutch V and a belt transmission, a main control shaft A.
This machine comprises an inversion device S actuated by a mechanical relay P, a workpiece carrier P (described in detail in a related patent) provided with a feeding device and a dividing or counting device. the blank during cutting thereof, and a tool holder 0 comprising a tool holder spindle carried by a cross slide carriage. This tool holder is described below with reference to FIGS. 2-to 5.
Shaft A carries a pulley 1 whose width b is twice that of <B> <I> E </I> </B> the belt 2 which it drives, and a pulley 3 connected by a belt 4 to a drive shaft 5 of the relay P. This relay being described in detail in a related patent will not be described in more detail here. The belt 2 connects the main shaft A alternately to a shaft B and a shaft C.
Shaft B is mechanically connected to a camshaft D which carries all the cams 7, 8, 9, 10 necessary to control the machining operations of the milling cutter from the blank che f. On the other hand, the shaft C is mechanically connected to a camshaft E which carries all the cams 12, 13, 14 necessary to control the operations required to supply the workpiece carrier P. The reversing device ( Fig. 6 to 9) com carries a movable support formed of two bars 20 rigidly connected to one another by crossbars 21. These bars 20 slide in guides 22 integral with the frame H of the. machine.
The sleepers 21 are connected by a rod 23 carrying a pivot 24 on which is articulated one of the ends of a connecting rod 25 which connects the mobile support to the relay P.
The mobile support is provided with a support 26 which carries an arm 27 whose angular position is adjustable. A pin 28 carrying two gaets 29 provided with cheeks 30 rotates freely in a bearing arranged in the free end of the arm 27. The belt 2 is engaged between the cheeks 30, as shown in FIG. 6. The angular position of the arm 27 being adjustable, it acts as a tensioner for the. cour roie 2: Shafts B and C are located in the extension of one another and rotate freely in bearings 33 integral with the frame H. Shaft B carries a pulley 34 and the shaft C a pulley 35.
These two pulleys have the same diameter and are located opposite one another, so that the. belt 2 can easily pass from one to the other.
The mobile support can occupy two extreme positions and it is held in these two positions by bolts (fig. 7 to 9). Each lock comprises a pawl 36 pivoted at 38 on a support 37 integral with the frame H. This pawl is subjected to the action of a spring 39 tending to engage a heel 40 in a notch 41 made in the rod 23.
The pawl 36 is also provided with a beak 42 intended to cooperate with the beak 43 of an auxiliary pawl 44. The latter is pivoted on a pin 45 carried by a support 50 movable angularly on a pin 51 integral with the pin. frame H.
A pressure device tends to maintain the nose 43 of the auxiliary pawl in engagement with the nose 42 of the pawl. 36. This pressure device comprises, on the one hand, a spring 46 disposed in a housing 47 arranged in the auxiliary pawl 44 and, on the other hand, a ball 48 partially engaged in the housing 47 and subjected to the action of the spring 46 which maintains it in contact with a surface 49 of the support 37.
The support 50 is still subjected to the action of a spring 52 which tends to hold it in the position shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, defined by a stop 58. Finally, each -support 50 is moved against the action of its return spring 52 by a cable 53, respectively 54, the movements of which are controlled by cams 55 and 56 respectively fixed on the camshaft E and on an auxiliary camshaft d mechanically connected to the camshaft D.
The operation of the reversing device is as follows: When the components and elements of the machine are located in the positions illustrated in FIG. 1, the engine M drives the camshaft Ë via the shaft C. The cams 12, 13 and 14, carried by the shaft E, control during: one complete revolution of this shaft :
EMI0003.0005
a) <SEP> the opening <SEP> of <SEP> the <SEP> clamp <SEP> of the <SEP> part holder,
<tb> b) <SEP> ejection <SEP> of <SEP> the <SEP> part <SEP> machined,
<tb> c) <SEP> the advance <SEP> of a <SEP> blank <SEP> (fig. <SEP> 10) <SEP> until in <SEP> position <SEP> of machining,
<tb> d) <SEP> the <SEP> clamping <SEP> of <SEP> the <SEP> clamp <SEP> of the <SEP> workpiece carrier.
Since these various operations are described in detail in a related patent, it is unnecessary to describe them again here.
Finally, when the shaft E again reaches its starting angular position, the cam 55 actuates the cable 53 and causes the angular displacement of the support 50 against the action of its spring 52. The auxiliary pawl 44 carried by the support 50 drives the pawl 36 against the action of the spring 39, which causes the release of the heel 40.
The mobile support thus released is then actuated to the right of FIG. 1 up to the position shown in fig. 6 by the connecting rod 25 driven by the relay F (see on this subject the related patent describing in detail the operation of this relay.) At the end of the travel, a stop 57 with adjustable position, integral with the rod 23, actuates the auxiliary pawl 44 against the action of its return spring 46 (FIG. 9) and causes the release of the nozzles 42, 43. The mobile support is then held by the right latch in its extreme right position.
The belt 2, engaged between the cheeks 30, has been driven in the movement of the movable support, so that it now drives the pulley 34 fixed on the shaft B.
Thus the camshaft E now remains stationary, while the camshaft D and the auxiliary shaft d are driven in rotation. The cams 7, 8, 9, 10 carried by the shaft D control, during several revolutions of this shaft, the cutting of the toothbrush in two passes. The ratio of transmission between trees <I> D </I> and <I> d </I> is an integer, the tree d making a single complete revolution while the tree D makes the number of revolutions required to control the cutting of the dental bur.
When the pruning operation is complete, the cam 56 exerts a traction on the cable 54 and causes the release of the right lock. The relay F then actuates the mobile support to the left into its original position: When the notch 41 faces the heel 40, the spring 39 causes the engagement of the two parts 40, 41 of the left latch.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the machine is designed more specifically for cutting spherical dental burs (fig. 11) from a blank (fig. 10).
The tool of size t is formed by a milling cutter carried by a spindle 59 driven in rotation by a motor 60. This spindle 59 turns eccentrically in a sleeve 61 made integral with a barrel 62. The sleeve 61 is eccentrically engaged in the barrel. 62 which rotates in a housing made in a horizontal slide 63. The barrel 62 carries a toothed wheel 64 meshing with a mesh crate 65 which slides in a housing 66 made in the slide 63. The barrel 62 still carries a grooved wheel 67 on which winds a spring 68, one of the ends of which is fixed to said slide 63.
This spring tends to maintain the barrel 62 in an angular position defined by the profile of the cam 10. The slide 63 is carried by another vertical slide 70 movable along a support 71 integral with the frame H.
Thus, when the camshaft D is dragged in rotation, the following operations are controlled automatically: a) Advance of the tool of size t into the. advanced machining position. This displacement is controlled by the cam 8 which causes the horizontal displacements of the smooth neck 63.
b) Lowering the cutting tool t to obtain the desired cutting depth. This displacement is controlled by the cam 9 which causes the movements of the vertical pain 70.
c) A displacement of the tool of size t following an arc of a circle. This movement is controlled by the cam 10 which actuates the crankshaft 65 against the action of the return spring 68. The radius of this circular arc is defined by the angular position of the. sleeve 61 in the barrel 62.
d) After the size of a tooth of the dental burr, the cam 7 causes the numbering of the blank f, that is to say its angular displacement by a given value. The operation of the blank divider or numbering device f being described in detail in a related patent, will not be described in more detail here.
e) Before counting the blank, the size t tool is: lifted by cam 9 to release it from the blank f, then after or during the counting of the latter, the size t tool is brought back by the spring 68 to its primary position and finally lowered again to its waist position.
f) The cam 10 again actuates the crankshaft 65 and the size tool t cuts a new tooth in the blank f.
The size of the dental burr shown in fig. 11 can therefore be carried out during two revolutions of the camshaft D then that this dental bur has a plane of symmetry passing through the edge of the tooth a. During two other revolutions of this camshaft, the teeth of the dental bur are ironed and, at the end of the fourth revolution of this shaft D, the. cam 56 carried by the shaft d causes, via the cable 54, the triggering of the corresponding lock of the movable support. This support, actuated by the relay P, transports the belt 2 on the pulley 35 and the complete cycle of the operations described begins again.
From the foregoing, it can be seen that the cams 8 and 9, for example, only have a number of rises equal to half the number of teeth that the dental burr has and that these rises are distributed regularly around its periphery.
On the other hand, in a machine tool having only one camshaft, the cams 8 and 9 should have a number of joints equal to twice the number of teeth of the dental bur and, moreover, these climbs are would be distributed over part of the periphery of these cams.
There is no need to expand on the advantages represented by this particular feature of the machine tool described, any person skilled in the art being able, from the above, to understand what it allows.
In an alternative construction, the tool t could be driven by the engine 1L In an alternative construction of the machine tool described, each camshaft D and E can have several sets of cams 7, 8, 9 and 12, 13,14 each actuating a tool holder and a workpiece holder. It is thus possible to produce a milling machine for dental mills comprising any number of machining stations in which all the racks 65 are arranged end to end. end, so that a single cam 10 can simultaneously control all the racks 65.
In addition, the machine described can be adapted to various types of dental burs to be cut. Thus, for example, when cylindrical dental burs are to be cut, the tool holder 0 can be placed on a bench provided with slides along which it. can be moved by the cam 10. In addition, the tool holder can be provided with two cutters, one intended for the size of the longitudinal teeth and the other for the size of the front teeth of a cylindrical milling cutter. .
Likewise, for the machining of conical cutters, the tool holder 0 movable along slides can carry a copying device causing the transverse displacements of the spindle carrying the tool of size t, as a function of its axial displacements. .
Such a machine could also be adapted to carry out cutting using a grinding wheel. In the case of dental burs, such a machining process would make it possible to cut the burr in a hardened blank.
Finally, multiple variants of execution adapted to each particular case can be provided. Machine tools with two alternately actuated camshafts are especially advantageous for cutting all kinds of cutters. Finally, one could also provide an automatic machine tool of the type described, in which the workpiece carrier would be supplied, no longer in blanks, that is to say in blanks, but in bars. In this case, the coin holder would be. provided with a known type of bar feeder, controlled by a cam fixed to the camshaft E. In addition, before cutting the cutter, the bar should be machined to form the blank.
For this, chisel holders actuated by cams carried by the shaft E should be provided and, in addition, the workpiece spindle should be rotated during the turning of the blank, by an individual motor whose the power supply would be controlled by a cam carried by the shaft E.
Thus, this shaft E would carry the cams necessary: a) for starting and stopping the motor actuating the workpiece spindle; b) when ordering the cutting of the finished milling cutter; c) when controlling the bar feeder device; d) controlling the machining of the blank; e) when the reversing device is unlocked. On the other hand, the camshaft 13 would carry the cams necessary: cc) to control the cutting of the toothing of the cutter; b) when controlling the dividing device; c) when the reversing device is unlocked.
It is clear that the driving of the camshafts can be carried out by means of belt drives, as described with reference to the appended drawing, but could also be carried out by means of gear trains. In the latter case, the reversing device would comprise a movable support for example axially displacing the movable part of a double coupling of known type.
