Angle head for dental bur.
In the angle heads for dental burrs commonly used, the cutter spindle has at its anterior end a cylindrical part pivoting in a front bearing, constituted by a complementary bore generally formed in the clamping nut closing off the angle head. The rear spindle bearing is also cylindrical.
This arrangement has the drawback of requiring the relatively frequent replacement of these cooperating parts due to the play taken by the spindle in one or other of these bearings resulting from normal wear of these parts.
The present invention aims to eliminate this drawback; its object is an angle head for a dental burr, characterized in that it comprises a burr-holder spindle having at least a conical part housed in a complementary bearing, so that the play of said spindle in said bearing resulting from normal wear can be compensated for following a relative axial displacement of these elements.
The single figure of the drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the angle head which is the subject of the invention.
The angle head shown comprises a body 1 adapting to a non-shown contra-angle handpiece and in which is housed a milling spindle 2 provided with a toothing 3 meshing with a drive pinion 4 arranged at the end of a drive spindle,
The milling cutter spindle 2 rotates, on the one hand, in a rear bearing 5 made of hardened steel, for example, and, on the other hand, in a front bearing consisting of a tapered bore formed in a clamping nut 6 screwed into body 1. A lock 7 of the conventional type maintains cutter 8 in spindle 2.
The rear pad 5 is screwed into the body 1, two diametrically opposed notches 9 formed at its front end facilitating its installation and removal.
At its anterior end, the cutter-holder spindle 2 has a conical part 10 complementary to the bore of the clamping nut 6. The cutter-holder spindle is thus perfectly guided and held axially between the rear bush 5 and the nut. clamp 6.
This arrangement has the advantage of making it possible to take up the play due to the wear that the spindle 2 may take in the bearing formed by the bore of the clamping nut 6, by tightening the latter somewhat, an operation made easy by the presence of foil washers 11 arranged under said nut and the number and thickness of which can be modified at will.
It should be noted that the great length of the bore of the rear bearing 5, as well as the presence of the lubrication groove formed in the latter make it possible to keep the normal wear of this bearing as low as possible which, moreover, can be easily replaced after removing the clamping nut and milling spindle.
Likewise, the adjustment of the play of the spindle in the bearing constituted by the conical bore of the tightening nut 6 is easy and can easily be carried out by the dentist, or his mechanic, without it being necessary to send the angle head at the factory or even to remove the contra-angle or right angle of which it is part.
In a variant that is not shown, the rear end mill spindle bearing may also have a conical bore cooperating with a complementary part of the spindle. This arrangement is however not necessary because the radial wear of the rear bearing remains moderate compared to that of the front bearing formed by the tightening nut.
