Removable attachment device for a bicycle handlebar. Bicycles are already known in which the handlebars are removably fixed in the stem l (, connecting to the steering tube, general, le- in # -nt in order to allow an adjustment at the top of the handlebars. To achieve this removable fixing, the part of the connecting stem through which the handlebars pass is shaped like a clamp with flanges, bolt and outer clamping screw and split ring inside the clamp.
Besides; its appearance little. aesthetic, such a bracket has the drawback. an imperfect tightening especially when it is made of injected cast iron :, light metal or another material not having sufficient elasticity to pcrniettre a reconciliation of the two lips said da clamp.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks; its object is a removable attachment device of a bi-cyclette handlebar in the stem connecting it to the steering tube; ca-ractéiisé by at least one jaw, concave contact surface disposed in a housing arranged tangentially in the.
wall of the cylindrical hole in the stem through which the handlebars go and opening out to the outside of at least one of the contact surfaces of the jaw and the handlebars, presenting anchoring means intended to prevent the handlebars from turning in the hole, of the stem, the jaw being applied against the handlebars by a threaded member controlled from the outside. The appended drawing represents, by way of examples., Two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line 11-II of the, FIG. 1 on a larger scale.
Fig. 3 shows the clamping jaw of the first embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a section similar to FIG. 2 -of the: second embodiment, and FIG. 5 shows the jaws of this second embodiment.
In the example shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, 10 designates the stem connecting the so-called "reversible" handlebars 11 to the steering tube 12. The handlebars 11 are removably fixed in the stem 10, so that the height of its handles can be adjusted at will.
For this purpose, in the wall of the cylindrical hole 13 of the stem through which the handlebar passes, a cylindrical hole 14 is formed, the axis of which is tangent to the. wall 13 at a point located approximately on the longitudinal axis of the. gallows, to the rear. Hole 14 leads to. outside on the. underside of the po tence. In this hole 14: is lo: ge a bite 15 having a con cave contact surface of the same radius of curvature as the wall of the hole of the gallows.
The jaw 15 comes in one piece with a threaded rod 16 onto which is screwed a nut 17. The mouth of the hole 14 has an enlarged part 18 into which a cylindrical part 17 of the nut 17 penetrates.
The concave surface of the jaw has flutes 19 for sharp edges. to cooperate with lures rods 20 provided on the surface of the handlebars 11 in the middle part which passes through the stem 1U. It is easy to see that by tightening the nut 17, a traction is exerted on the jaw 15, the grooves 19 of which cooperate with the grooves 20 of the handlebar to lock the latter in the chosen position. Nut 17 being said:
placed on the underside of the stem 10 and partially penetrating into the enlarged end 18 of the hole 14, it is almost completely hidden from view and does not disturb the outer line of the stem to which any full effect can be given. desirable aesthetic form.
It is also possible to provide a cylindrical head nut with peripheral notches, the head of which penetrates entirely into the enlarged part 18 of the hole 14 and thus does not protrude. the lower surface of the stem. Knurling or other anchoring means could replace the splines of the jaw and the handlebars, and it could be enough that only one of the surfaces of:
contact of the jaw and the handlebars is provided.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 4 and 5, the unique bite of the first form. execution is replaced by two jaws 21 and 22 both having a surface of: concave contact provided -de grooves 23., 24 with sharp edges. The jaw 21 housed at the bottom of the hole 14 has a threaded hole 25 and the jaw 22 a smooth hole 26. A:
screw 27, the externally knurled head 28 of which has on its face a polygonal recess 29 for the introduction of a tightening key, freely passes through the jaw 22 and is screwed into the jaw 21. The head 28 of the screw: 27 is of the same diameter as the jaws.
It penetrates do: ne entirely - in the hole 14 which is everywhere of the same diameter and acts directly on the outside face of the bite 22. It can be seen that by screwing this screw 27 we force the two jaws to approach each other. 'one from the other and to wedge between their fluted concave contact surfaces the donut 11, the middle part of which is also fluted.
The tightening is even more effective than with a single jaw and the head 28 -of the dis 27: is completely hidden from view. The grooves of the jaws are preferably obtained. by milling.
The device according to the invention makes it possible to construct. Compact and aesthetic jib cranes in stamped metal or injected cast iron.
