Process for the preparation of an aromatic acylamidodiol, nitrated in the nucleus. In the main patent, a process for the preparation of! U-1-p-nitrophenyl-2-dichloroacetamidopropane-1,3-diol has been described. The present patent relates to -a process for preparing another aromatic acylamidodiol that nitrated in the nucleus.
This process is characterized in that the pseudo structural form of a triacylated nitroaminodiol of formula is subjected to partial hydrolysis, in the presence of water.

wherein R1 and R3 are acyl radicals, under conditions such that! Èl-1-p-nitrophenyl-2-fluorochloroacetamido-propane-1,3-diol is formed. The latter is a new substance, crystallized, of which the monohydrate of the racemic form melts at 95-100.
Either the racemic form or one of the optically active forms can be subjected to said hydrolysis; preferably the levogyre form of the starting triacylated nitroaminodiol. Preferably, the hydrolysis is carried out by means of an alkali metal hydroxide dissolved in an aqueous liquid containing an organic solvent miscible with water.
In carrying out the process, the temperature is usually kept below 501 ° C., and it is preferable to use as the water-miscible organic solvent, an aliphatic ketone such as acetone or a water miscible alcohol such as ethyl alcohol. The best results are obtained with an aqueous liquid consisting of equal parts of water and of an organic solvent miscible with water.
Usually, II-1-p-nitrophenyl-2-fluoroehloroacet-amido-1,3-diacetoxypropane is employed as the starting material.
The product obtained by the process according to the present patent, especially the racemic form and the levorotatory form, has therapeutic value as an antibiotic and is suitable for the preparation of other compounds having antibiotic activity. Example 1: .
Was dissolved at 0 C, 1 g of dl-P-1-p-nitro-phenyl-2-fluorochloroacetamido -1,3-diacetoxy-propane in a mixture composed of 50 em3 of acetone and an equal volume of a 0.2 n solution of NaOH. The reaction mixture is left to stand for one hour, then neutralized with hydrochloric acid and evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure.
The residue was extracted with several hot portions of ethylene dichloride, the extracts were concentrated and cooled to afford dl-YY-1-p-nitrophenyl-2-fluorochloroacetamidopropane-1,3-diol. After recrystallization from water, the monohydrate of this product is obtained, having a melting point of 95-100 C.
