Process for the production of a vat dye. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be produced if 1 mole of 1,8-dibenzoylamino-4,5-diamino-anthraquinone is reacted with 2 moles of a 2-halo-anthraquinone.
The new dye is a green-black powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a pure blue color. He dyes a blue-tinged olive-green with excellent lightness properties from a red-brown vat on cotton.
The 1., 8-dibenzoylamino-4,5-diaminoan.thraelrinon serving as the starting material for the present process. can be obtained by dinitrating the oxamic acid of 1,8-diaminoanthraquinone, splitting off the oxalic acid residues, benzyling the two 1-amino groups in the 1- and 8-positions and then reducing the two nitro groups in the 4- and 5-positions .
For example, 2-chloranthraehinone can be used to convert the starting material obtained in this way with a 2-halogenanthraehinone. The IT reaction takes place expediently in a high-boiling, indifferent binding or distribution agent, such as nitrobenzene or naphthalene, expediently with the addition of the known catalysts which promote the formation of anthrimides, such as copper and copper salts, at elevated temperature.
Example: 1.6, -1 parts of finely powdered 1,8-diamino-4,5-dirritro-arrtlrraehinon are heated to 195 in 492 parts of nitrobenzene with stirring. 15.5 parts of benzoyl chloride are added and the mixture is stirred at low boiling for 1 hour. After cooling to room temperature, the dibenzoyl compound which has crystallized out in yellow plates is filtered off with suction, with nitrobenzene and with. Alcohol washed and then dried. It melts at around 376 to 378. The yield is 80 to 851 / o of theory.
27 parts of the 1, 8-dibenzoylamino-4, 5-dinitro-anthraelrinone obtained are finely powdered and dissolved in 486 parts of nitrobenzene. approximately. 90 heated. 12 parts of hydrazine hydrate (95% content) are added, whereupon the reaction mixture immediately turns blue, and the mixture is stirred at 90 to 100 for 1 hour. After a further addition of 6 parts of hydrazine hydrate, the mixture is stirred at 100 to 110 for a further hour. The 1,8-dibenzoylamino-4,5-diamino-anthraquinone crystallized in the form of blue needles is filtered off with suction while hot, washed with nitrobenzene and with alcohol and then dried.
The yield is 85 to 901 / o of theory.
In the finely powdered state, 14.3 parts of 1,8-dibenzoylamino-4,5-diamino-anthraquinone, 1.6 parts of 2-chloroanthraquinone, 6 parts of anhydrous sodium acetate, 3 parts of magnesium oxide and 2 parts of copper chloride are mixed with 190 parts of naphthalene. The melt is heated and stirred with gentle boiling until the starting products have disappeared. Then allowed to cool to 150, diluted with 120 parts of monochlorobenzene and stirred for 1 hour at 140 to 150. After cooling to about 90, it is suctioned off.
The residue is purified by treatment with monochlorobenzene, alcohol, dilute hydrochloric acid and water and then dried. The yield is 70 to 80% of theory.
