Additional patent to the main patent No. 252533. Process for the production of a vat dye. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be produced
if 1-amino-4-benzoylaminoauthraquinone is reacted with a functional derivative of naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid substituted in the 5-position by a sulfodnmethylamide group.
The new dye forms red crystals, dissolves in conc. Sulfuric acid with red color and dyes cotton from a blue-violet vat in a bluish red. Tones.
An acid halide, for example the acid chloride, can advantageously be used as the functional derivative of the carboxylic acid mentioned. The reaction can be carried out, for example, in an inert solvent, preferably of a relatively high boiling point, such as mono-, di- or trichlorobenzene, advantageously at elevated temperature.
The naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid-5-sulfodimethylamide required for the present process can be prepared, for example, as follows: 15 parts naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid-5-sulfonic acid are slowly introduced into 120 parts chlorosulfonic acid with stirring. The mixture is then stirred for one hour at a temperature between 55 and 65 and: cooled to 0.
The carefully in ice; discharged solution is filtered. The precipitate, washed well with Eiswas water, is dried in vacuo at 50 and repeatedly recrystallized from dry benzene. It forms colorless needles, which melt at 205 to 206 (uncorr.). 42 parts of this acid chloride are slowly introduced into a solution of 500 parts of dimethylamine (20% strength) in 500 parts of water with stirring.
After stirring for a further two hours at 50 to 60, dilute hydrochloric acid bi is added to produce a strongly acidic reaction, the mixture is filtered, washed thoroughly with water and dried at 50 in a vacuum. Repeatedly recrystallized from aqueous alcohol, colorless needles are obtained.
Example: 39 parts of naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid-5-sulfodnmethylamide are distributed in 1500 parts of anhydrous o-dichlorobenzene, and after adding 100 parts. Thionyl chloride and a small amount of pyridine, the temperature slowly increased to 70 to 80 ge while stirring.
After the temperature has been left at 80 to 90 for one hour with stirring, the excess thionyl chloride and some o-dichlorobenzene are distilled off in vacuo, 52 parts of 1-amino-4-benzoylamino anthraquinone are added and the temperature is increased while stirring slowly to 170 to 175.
Finally, heat it to the boil for another ten minutes and let it cool down. The dye which separates out in red crystals is filtered off and washed with hot alcohol and ether.
