Additional patent to main patent no. 252533. Process for the production of a vat dye. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be produced if a mixture of 6- and 7-chloro-1-amino-4-benzoylamino-anthraquinone is substituted with a functional derivative of the 4-position by a sulfopiperidide group Reacts benzene-l-carboxylic acid.
The new dye dissolves in conc. Sulfuric acid with a red-violet color and dyes cotton from an olive vat in real blue-tinged pink tones.
An acid halide, for example the acid chloride, can advantageously be used as the functional derivative of the carboxylic acid mentioned. The reaction can be carried out, for example, in an inert solvent, preferably of a relatively high boiling point, such as nitrobenzene or mono-, di- or trichlorobenzene, it being advantageous to operate at elevated temperature.
The benzene-1-carboxylic acid-4-sulfopiperidide required for the present process can be z. B. by reacting benzoic acid-4-sulfochloride with an aqueous solution of piperidine.
The above-mentioned mixture of 1-amino-4-benzoylaniino-6-chlora.nthraquinone and 1 amine-4 "benzoylamino-7-zhioranthraquinone is obtained as follows: A mixture of 1-amino-6-chloranthraquinone and 1-amino-7 -chloranthraquinone, as it arises from the nitration, chlorination and reduction of anthraquinone, ß-sulfonic acid, is, as in the American patent No. 2134654 (example:
3) described for pure 6-chloro derivative, converted into a mixture of 1-amino-4-nitro-6-chloro-anthraquinone and 1-amino-4-nitro-7-chloro-anthraquinone. 15 parts of the 1-amino-4-nitro-ehlorantlirachinon- mixture are distributed in 150 parts of dry o-dichlorobenzene and, after adding 15 parts of benzoyl chloride, boiled for 3 hours with stirring. After cooling, filter and snack with.
Yellow benzoylamino bodies obtained from alcohol are distributed in 7 times the amount of o-dichlorobenzene, double the amount of phenylhydrazine is added and the mixture is stirred at 130 to 1400 for one hour. The amino bodies filtered off after cooling and washed with alcohol crystallize in purple needles.
Example: 27 parts of benzoic acid - 4 - sulfopiperidide are distributed in 250 parts of dry nitrobenzene and, after adding 16 parts of thionyl chloride and a very small amount of pyridine, stirred at 1200 for one and a half hours. 37.7 parts of the 1-amino-4-benzoylainino-6/7-chloroanthraquinone mixture described above are then added and the mixture is stirred at 120 to 1300 for two hours. When it cools down, the dye crystallizes in bright red needles.
These are filtered off and washed well with hot alcohol.
