<I>Ronces</I> imprimeuses: Des roues imprimeuses 319 (fig.
Accounting machine. The present invention relates to an accounting machine comprising organs for printing a recording tape capable of moving between read and print positions.
This machine is characterized in that it comprises a removable printing assembly comprising a main frame which supports a tilting frame in which are mounted supply and reception rollers of said strip, as well as guide members. , line spacing for the tape recorder, and printing devices.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, a partial embodiment of the making machine. -the object of the invention, only the parts necessary for the understanding of the invention being. represented.
Fi-. 1 shows an end view, taken from the right of the machine, of a main frame supporting the recording material.
Fig. ? is an end view, on the right, of part of a tilting frame for the recording material and showing said frame and the mechanism carried by it in the reading position.
End-. 3 is. a right view of the fi- mechanism. 2 after moving from .la. read position to print position.
Fig. 4 shows a detail of a cam and part of a connecting rod controlling the printing organs and the movement of the recording material from the reading position to the position immediately preceding the printing position.
Fig. 5 is a reproduction of a portion of the recording material with its multiple columns and illustrating one mode of using the machine as a cash register.
Fig. 6 shows a front elevational view of the removable frame supporting the recording material.
Fig. 7 is a front view of the mechanism supporting the left end of the material take-up roll and a ratchet mechanism for manually causing line spacing of said take-up roll.
Fig. â is. a detail view, taken from the right of the machine, showing part of a mechanism for moving the recording material from the reading position to the printing position, and. to automatically advance or produce automatic line spacing.
Fig. 9 is: detail view .of the mechanism allowing. to turn the take-up roller by hand to advance it.
Fi-. 10 est. a partial plan view of part of the take-up roll for recording material and of the mechanism for rotating this roll to effect row spacing. Fig. 11 is a detail view of part of the mechanism shown in FIG. 10 serving to automatically spin the take-up roller .du recording material.
The description relates more particularly. to the recording material, to the assembly and control thereof, as well as to the printing elements and their control, as used in said embodiment of the machine.
. The recording material, of which, a <U> fragment- </U> is. represented in the. fi-. 5, is relatively wide and is. .divided into nine vertical columns,: of which the extreme left column is much wider than the other eight columns, to be used for printing references and all other identifying information, .and the amounts.
In addition, the left column is. used to carry certain identifying information in the hand, in front of the printed inscriptions.
Likewise, all of the totals and are printed in this large left column and., When the machine is used as an adding machine, it is. possible to print any desired amount in this left column.
When the. machine is used as a cash register, cash and debit items cannot be printed in the left column, but in one of the other eight. right columns. Also, when the. The machine is used as a cash register, the receipts and counts and disbursements items.
can be printed in the left column, or in any of the other eight columns. However, the changed items are invariably printed in the left column.
The tape of the recording material is wound up on its supply roll and it is unwound by it to pass around several guide rods, between the printing machine and a pressure mechanism and, of there., towards him the receiving roll.
All the mechanism provided for the recording material, including the supply roll, the receiver roll, their guides and the printing plates, is mounted in a frame which can. switch from a normal or playback position to move the recording material to the print position and return it to the.
normal position without it being necessary to slide the band on the Oluides and fixed supports. When the recording material is in the reading position, the last few inscriptions which are found are visible through an opening in a trunk lid, which the lid allows. access to the mechanism.
Similarly, the autographic part of the recording material is accessible through the said opening which allows. to carry the desired inscriptions on the band by hand.
The tilting frame. which carries the recording material is, in turn, supported by a frame which is removably mounted on the front of the machine and which is accessible through the cover shown above. The latter is not only blocked in the closed position, but it. is automatically released when a total control lever (not shown; is moved either. to the total reading position or to the addition or reset position.
When the cover is open, the removable frame can. be removed easily from the machine and, as it carries the tilting frame. all of the recording material, including the supply roll and the take-up roll, can be removed quickly and conveniently. of the machine to allow replacement of the recording material or to adjust the mechanism.
When the frame of the recording material is tilted from the. reading position in the printing position, part of the web guide members are momentarily retracted, to release the web tension and, when the tension is thus released, automatic devices ensuring the rotation of the recording media take-up roll, operate to perform leading. A key, placed on the left side of the keyboard of the machine, is provided to activate the mechanism which controls the rotation of the take-up roller, which makes it possible to advance the line spacing by hand.
<I> Frame and </I> drive mechanism (the <I> the </I> machine: The machine mechanism is carried by two main flanges 60 and 61 (fig. 1 and 6) fixed on a base (not shown) The entire mechanism of the machine is also enclosed in a box 69, part of which is shown in Fig. 1.
An electric motor of any known type (not shown) drives a main shaft <B> 130 </B> (fig. 3) by making it turn in the dextrorsum direction at each operation of the machine.
<I> Brambles </I> printers: Printing wheels 319 (fig. 3) corresponding to the four rows of lower order uprights, are carried in a sliding frame which is brought to the desired position under the action of keys selection which allow to choose the different columns of the recording material (fig. 5) where the various stations must be registered.
In the drawing, only one printing wheel 319 is shown. The mechanism used to position, by differential means, the printing wheels 319 and the sliding frame used to move the printing wheels, is not shown, because it is shown in detail in Swiss patent N 271416, filed Jan. 6 - @ 1st 1948.
<I> Mechanism (read </I> recording material: The supply and reception rollers for the recording material shown in fig. 5 are supported in a frame which is itself port. ,, - removably, between the main flanges of the machine, on the front of the machine, where it is accessible through a trunk lid of the machine.
The access cover is locked in the closed position when a total control lever (shown and described in Swiss Patent No. 271-116) is. moved either to the reading position, or to the addition position, or. again towards that of delivery to. zero.
Therefore. the recording material is only accessible to those who have the keys to open the lock of the total control lever, which lock is used to lock said lever either in the recording position or at. a blocking position of the machine.
The last few posts printed on the web are visible through an opening in the upper part of the cover allowing access to the material and. this opening is covered with a transparent material. The extreme left part of the recording material is reserved for carrying all various information by hand and an opening made in the transparent material provides access to this part of the material for this purpose.
If reference is made more particularly to FIGS. 1 to. 3, 6 and 9, we see that the removable frame serving. to carry the feeder and receiver rollers (the recording material comprises a right-hand plate 726 and a left-hand plate 727 connected together by a rod 728.
Trunnions formed by the opposite ends of the rod <B> 728 </B> fit in curved slots 729 made in two similar plates 730 and 731, fixed respectively to the right frame 61 and to the frame of left 60. Similar extensions of the plates 726 and 727 have V-shaped notches, 732 and 733, intended to respectively receive similar hubs fixed in axial alignment on one and the other of the flanges 60 and. 61, these hubs supporting a shaft 731.
The rod <B> 728, </B> in cooperation with the curved notches 729, constitutes an articulated support for the frame of the recording material and when this frame is in the active position, as shown in FIG. 1, the <B> V, </B> shaped notches 732 and 733 engage with the hubs of the flanges 60 and 61, the purpose of which is to properly place the frame in the active position.
Two similar pawls 735 (fig. 1 and 6), pivoting on studs 736 provided on the plates 726 and 727, are pushed in the dextrorsum direction by springs 737 to engage with fixed studs 738 of the flanges 60 and 61, and thus lock the frame of the recording material in the active position shown here.
To remove the recording material frame from the machine or to bring it to a more accessible position facilitating the removal of the printed part of the recording tape wound on the take-up roll, it is sufficient to grasp the curved tabs 739 provided on the ratchets 735 and to lower the latter in the senestrorsum direction, as shown in fig. 1, against the action of the springs 737, to release them from their respective studs 738, after which, the entire frame of the tape recorder can be tilted outward or in the senestrorsum direction, the rod 728 and.
the notches 729 forming a pivot, until the projections 741 are located. on the downward extensions of the plates 726 and 727 come into contact with the studs 738 to end the baseulant movement of the frame and to keep the latter in an accessible position. If it is desired to remove the frame from the machine, the rod 728 can be lifted and removed from the open ends of the notches 729.
A supply roller 742 (fig. 2, 3, 6, 8 and 9) is rotated by a frame comprising end plates 743 and 711 connected by a rod 715 and a shaft 746. This frame is mounted on rotation between the plates 726 and 727 by means of two coaxial pivots 747 disposed on each of the plates 713 and. 744, in cooperation with hubs 718 carried by the plates 726 and 727.
The strip of supply roll 742 is wound around a metal tube 749 (Figs. 6 and 8), the inner circumference of which at one end fits a tenon 750 journalled in a bushing. of plate 744, while the inner circumference of the other end of said tube 749 fits over a similar tenon provided on a plunger 751 spring-loaded and pivoting in a neck of plate 7-13. This plunger 751 is in axial alignment with the tenon 750.
To mount the supply roll 7-12 in the frame 713 and 7-14, the right end of the tube 7-19, as shown in fig. 6, est. slipped on the tenon of the elastic plunger 751 and this plunger is pushed to the right against the action of its spring, until the left end of the tube can be threaded on the post 750.
Each of the plates 726 and 727 (fi; -. 1, 2, 6 and 9) has a cam slot 752, engaged with rollers 753 disposed on two similar levers 751, pivoting, on the opposite ends of the rod 7- 15. Arms of the levers 754 extending rearwardly hair a rod 755 which, at. in turn, is articulated by two connecting rods 756 (see also fig. 8) with arms 757, 758 for supporting a receiving roller, arms fixed on the shaft 716.
Referring to Figs. 6 and 8, we see that the tape to be recorded unwinds from the supply roll 742 and passes over the rods 745 and 755 as well as over a rod 759 carried by the arms 757 and 758, from there to go on a tube 760 of the web take-up roller 761 (fig. 10). Tube 760 is similar in all respects to tube 7-19 on the supply roll. and it is rotated between the arms 757 and 758.
The right end of the tube of the take-up roller 760 has, on the inside, two diametrically opposed clutch notches and which can engage with two diametrically tenons. opposites, provided on a clutch 762 (fig. 10) fixed to the end of a small axle 763, rotating in a bearing 764 (it is fixed in the arm 757. Also fixed on the axle 763 is a wheel knurled 765 having a slot in which engages an angular tongue 766 provided on a disc 767 fixed to the end of a hub 768 pivoting on the axle 763. The hub 768 comprises, fixed at its other end, a disc 769 and a ratchet 770 for feeding the receiving roller.
A pawl 771 (fig. 10 and 11), pivoting on a stud 772, carried by a feed disc 773, of paper which turns freely. on axis 763, is dragged to mesh the teeth of ratchet 770 except the action of a reort 774.
Likewise, a pawl 775, serving to retain the ratchet and rotating freely on a stud 776 of the arms 757, is. for its part driven in the dextrorsum direction (fi-. 11) to be engaged with the ratchet under the action of a torsion spring 777. The -disc 773 carries a pin 780 serving. pivot at the lower end of a connecting rod 781 (fig. 8), the upper end of which has a slot 782 engaged with a stud 783 carried by a lever 784 which rotates freely on the rod 745.
The lever 784 has a hole freely engaged with a stud 785 attached to the lever 754 (Fig. 7. Since the feed members of the tape recorder are actuated by the printing device, the following manner will be described. which lever 754 activates the web feed mechanism together with the printing device The left end of the tube 760 of the take-up roll <B> 761. </B> (fi- . 7 and 8) is carried by a <B> 786 </B> ring engaged with.
the internal circumference of said tube and this ring 786 is riveted to the race of a spring loaded plunger 787 and comprising two diametrically opposed tenons which are engaged with two diametrically opposed clutch notches at the left end tube 760.
The tenons dtt plunger 787 are engaged with corresponding notches made in a large diameter portion of a bore of a pawl 789 to form an active connection between these two parts.
A small diameter portion of the bore of pawl 789 pivots on a fixed pin referred to as an arm 7: 18. A hub-shaped portion of ratchet 789 has an annular groove engaged with a retaining clip 790 (Fig. 7) attached to arm 758, to hold the ratchet. and related parts against displacement. lateral.
ZTn drive ratchet 791. of the ratchet (fig. 9) is provided with a slot 792 which adapts freely to the rod 759 and a torsion spring 793 causes the pawl 791 to move in the dextrorsum direction and to the rear, to maintain normally. a tooth of the pawl in contact with the teeth of the ratchet <B> 789. </B> A disc 788 fixed to the ratchet 789 forms, with the face of the knurled wheel 765 (fig. 7 and 10), flanges to guide the recording tape around tube 760.
The disc 788 also serves to keep the edge of the pawl 791 in lateral alignment with the ratchet 789.
When the baati of the recording material is found at the. normal position or reading, like this. is shown at fi--. <B> 9, </B> a rounded edge 794 of pawl 791 can cooperate with a stud 795 of a pivoting lever 796. on the shaft 734. A bore of the lever 796 is freely engaged with a stud 797 disposed at the lower end of a connecting rod 798, of which. the upper end is articulated to a lever 799 mounted loosely on a shaft 212.
An 800 stud, worn by another. branch of lever 799, is, engaged with a slot in the shank of a key 195 which engages the line spacing, which key has parallel slots engaged with studs 801 and 802 attached to the flange of the pin. left 60. A spring 803 tends to. pull it. touch 195 upwards, to normalize it. key and related parts to. the normal position shown in FIG. 9.
When the 195 key is pressed, the frame of the recording tape is. to the position. normal (fig. 9), the lever 799 is tilted in the dextrorsal direction, causing the pin 795 which cooperates with the ridge 794, to move the pawl 791 forward, against the action of the spring. 793, to rotate: the ratchet 789 and the tube 760 of a tooth, to perform the line spacing:
A retaining pawl 804, mounted loosely on a pin of the arm 758, is driven in the senestrorsum direction. by a torsion spring 779 which normally maintains the tooth. of the pawl engaged with the teeth of the ratchet 789, to prevent retrograde movement of the pawl and take-up roller 761 of the recording tape.
When the tube 760 of the receiving roller is pressed, its right end, as shown in fi.g. 6, slides on the ring 778 (fig. 10) fixed on the face of the clutch 762, after which this engagement, the wheel 765 and the axle 763 are lowered against the action of their spring until so that the left end of tube 760 can escape from ring 786 (fig. 7).
The ring 786, as well as its plunger 787, is force-engaged with the tube 760 by a compressible spring housed in a recess of the ratchet 789. Once the tube 760 has been thus mounted in the printing frame, the ring. . knurled wheel 765 (fig. 10) is rotated by hand until the tenons of clutch 762 and plunger 787 drop into their corresponding clutch slots, made in opposite ends of tube 760. which ensures the operative connection of the tube with the automatic interlining mechanism and with the manual interlining mechanism.
When the tube 760 is thus mounted in the frame, .la. The recording tape is unwound from the supply roll 742 (fig. 8 and 9) and passed around the rods 745, 7:55 and 759, after which the end of the tape passes through a slot in the tube 760. The latter ci is turned by hand by means of the. knurled wheel 765 to start winding. . of the band around the tube 760.
-lIéccc-rtisme <I> printing .: </I> The printing mechanism for printing in any of the columns -from the tape recorder to. multiple columns re presented in. fi-. 5 comprises a plate which extends over the entire width of the columns to be printed, this plate being actuated by a toggle device which causes printing by pressure rather than by hammer striking. The printing mechanism is carried by the frame 743 and 744 which serves to move the recording tape from the reading position to the printing position and, vice versa, and it is evident that this printing mechanism moves to in unison with said. built.
Therefore, when the machine is at rest, the printing stage is in a non-printing, approximately vertical position, as shown in fig. 2, and during machine operation, the platen is moved from the non-printing position to a printing position, as is. represented at the fi-. 3.
The printing mechanism is located simultaneously. engaged with its control mechanism, which, upon operation, causes the deck to press the recording tape and. the ink ribbon in contact with the printing wheels 319 to record the data corresponding to a certain operation of the ma.chinc.
The imipression mechanism includes right and left arms 805 and 806 (fig. 2, 3 and. 6) tick, same shape and each having a slot 807, these slots receiving. journals 747 carried by each of the plates 743 and 744.
Similar slots 808 disposed at the lower ends of each of the arms 805 and 806 and parallel to the slots 807, engage with studs 809 carried by the plates 7.13 and 744, so that the arms 805 and 806 can slide in the frame of the my recording material. Each of the arms 805 and 806 has a. its upper part of the curved legs which overlap similar ears provided on a plate 811 in the form of a <B> U, </B> the legs of each set being connected to each other by means of pegs 810.
A groove formed in the <B> U </B> -shaped platen 811 (Figs. 2 and 6) carries a long elastic printing block 812, which is fixed by means of three screws placed on the side of the bar. profiled, said screws having pointed ends which penetrate into the elastic block 812. The bottom of the block 812 rests on a long adjustment plate (not shown) carried by the groove of the plate 811 and which is adjustable by means of flat screws. - eées in the bottom of the frame, which allows. to adjust the face of block 812 relative. to the printing wheels 319.
When the frame which carries the tape enre gistreuse switches from the reading position shown at. fig. 2, at the printing position shown in FIG. 3, the block 812 and its support frame also move. and the leading mechanism operates in a manner described later which has the effect of causing the web to advance automatically before the printing mechanism operates.
The mechanism which switches the frame of the recording tape from the non-printing position to the printing position and vice versa, comprises two identical studs 813 (fig. 3 and 6) carried by the plates 743 and 744 and which engage with notches in the upper ends of arm 814 when printing frame 726 and. 727 is suitably mounted in the machine, as shown at. fig. 2. The lower ends of the arms 814 have slots receiving a shaft 488 and each of these arms carries a stud 815 which extends into corresponding slots arranged in each of two arms 816 fixed on the shaft 488.
A compressible spring 817 forms an elastic link between the pair of arms 814 and 816 and tends to constantly urge the arms 814 upwards to keep their notches in engagement with the studs 813 (fi. \? And 3) whatever the position. angular position of the studs relative to the shaft 488. Fixed to this shaft 488 (FIG. 3) is a crank pin 489 articulated to. a connecting rod 490 carrying a roller 491 (FIG. 4) which cooperates with a cam groove 492 formed in a cam 493 fixed to the main driving shaft 130.
This cam-groove 492 causes the shaft 488 to switch, thanks to the connecting rod and the crankpin, first in the senestorsum direction then in the other direction. The initial movement, in the senestrorsal direction, of shaft 488 (fig. 2 and 3) lowers the frame 743 and 744 of the recording tape from the position shown in fig. 2 to the. position shown in fig. 3, to move the entire supply roll 742, take-up roll 761, and print block 812 assembly from the read position to the print position.
As the printing block 812 and related parts move to the printing position, the cam slots 752 (fig. 2 and 3), in cooperation with the rollers 753, lower the levers backward. 754 in the dextrorsal direction relative to the frame of the tape recorder, which frame also moves in the dextrorsum direction. The movement of the lever 754 im prime, by the intermediary of the stud 785 carried by the right hand lever 754 (fig. 6), a movement analogous to the lever 784 (fig. 8) which, by means of the stud 783, in cooperation with slot 782,
moves the connecting rod 781 forward to turn the disc 773 (see also fig. 11), also in the dextrorsum direction. This movement of the disc 773 (Figs. 8 and 11) causes the advancing pawl 771 to cooperate with the teeth of the ratchet. 770, to rotate tube 760 (Fig. 10) and take-up roller 761 by tooth space, to produce key line spacing on the recording tape, prior to operation, of the printing mechanism.
The movement in the direction dextrorsum key levers 754 (fig. 2 and 6) by means of the mechanical chain comprising. the rod 755, the connecting rod 756, the arms 757 and 758 and the guide rod 759, slightly relaxes the guide members of the strip to release the tension of the latter while the spacing is carried out, so as to avoid the risk to tear the tape and also to avoid unnecessary fatigue of the leading mechanism.
The dextrorsal movement of the frame 743 and 744 of the recording material, from the reading position to the printing position (fig. 2, 3 and 6), results in two coaxial studs 818 carried by each of the arms. printing 805 and 806, are taken by notches provided at the upper end of drive arms 820 and 821 attached to the shaft 734. An extension of the arm 820 is hinged with the lower end of a knee 822, the upper end of which is articulated by a pin 823 with another knee 824 pivoting on a fixed pin 825 fixed on the right side known as the flange 61.
On the pin 823 also pivots the front end of a drive rod 826, the forked rear end of which embraces the shaft 130. This rod carries a roller 827 cooperating with a cam groove 828 located. on the side face of a cam 301.
The groove 828, cooperating with the roller 827, moves the connecting rod 8 = 6 first forward (to the left on fis. 3) and then back to the normal position, after the printing wheels 319 have been set up by the differential mechanism described and shown in Swiss patent 'N 271-116. The forward movement of the connecting rod 826, which occurs after the frame of the tape recorder has tilted into the printing position (fig. 3),
extend the 822 and 82-1 toggle system to tilt the arm 820, the shaft 73-1 and the arm 821 in the dextrorsum direction. This displacement of the arms 820 and 821 drives the printing arms 80: 5 and 806 backwards (to the right in fis. 3) on their studs 747 and 809 x> where to bring the printing unit 812 to pres press the tape recorder, together with an 8_9 ink ribbon, against the print wheels to record the transaction on the tape (shown in fig. 5).
In this figure, the abbreviations mean: Pd O = Payment: (.'hg = Debit; N S = Change; Rc A = Received into account.
As soon as the printing has been done, the connecting rod 826 is returned to the rear (to the right in fis. 3) to move the printing assembly to the. normal position, after which the shaft 488 returns in the clextror.- sunt direction thanks to the cam 192 (fig. 4) to return the frame 743 to the reading position. When the frame is in the reading position,
the portion of the tape bearing the records of the last transaction and several previous transactions is visible through an opening 830 (fig. 1) of the cover 831 hinged to the safe 69. The cover 831 contains the frame of the tape recorder 726 and 727 and the opening 830 is covered with a transparent plastic material 832. An opening 833 (fig. 1) made in the transparent material 832 exposes the left edge of the tape for writing on. , if applicable, various information regarding the printed records.
A table 831 (Figs. 6 and 8) carried by the pins 745 and 755 of the tape recorder frame, sits just below the opening 833 and provides a support for handwriting on the tape.
When the printing frame 726 and 727 is removed from the machine, it is necessary to lock the tape record frame 743 and 711 in the read position, as shown in figs 1 and 6, so that the studs 813 remain in alignment with the notches provided at the upper ends of the arms 814, in order to ensure that the studs will again engage with said notches when the frame is again placed in the machine.
This retention of the tilting part of the frame in the reading position (fig. 2) is obtained by means of two similar locks 835 (fig. 1. and 6) pivoting on studs 836 carried by the plates 726 and 727. The locks 835 are urged in the dextror- sumed direction by the springs <B> 737 </B> stretched between said locks 835 and the locks 735, the latter holding the printing frame in place, as explained above. Each of the locks 835 has a stud 837 cooperating with an edge 838 of the plates 730 and 731 to retain the upper hooked ends of the locks 83:
5 released from the rollers 753. It has been seen that these are carried by the lever 754, so that the frame of the strip 713 and 744 can be tilted to the printing position and vice versa during the operation of the i -naehine. When the printing frame, including plates 726 and 727 and all intervening parts, is removed from the machine by manually releasing latches 735 from the.
previously described, the withdrawal of the studs 837 from the edges 838 allows the spells 737 to tilt the locks 835 in the dextrorsum direction (fig. 1) to engage these with the rollers 753, to hold the levers 754 and the frame. tape to the read position (Fig. 2), so that the studs 813 re-engage with the notches on the upper ends of the arms 814 when the printing frame is placed in the machine again.
The printing frame is accessible by means of the cover 831, hinged to the trunk 69, and this cover is locked in the closed position when the machine is used as a cash register, or when the machine is fully locked. It is released when the machine is engaged either for the. read or reset position. zero or addition, as explained in detail in the Swiss patent cited above.
The cover 831 has two downward extensions 841 (one of which is shown in fig. 1), each carrying a stud 842 which can cooperate with the hooked end of a latch 843, the two locks 843 pivoting. on studs 844 which are carried, respectively, by the flanges 61 and 60, to normally block the cover 831 in the closed position. Springs 845, stretched between studs 846 of the locks 843 and fixed studs 847 of the flanges 60 and 61, bias in the dextrorsum direction the locks 843 which engage with the studs 842.
A portion of the locks 843 cooperates with the studs 847 to limit the movement in the forward direction of the locks 843, under the action of the springs 845, with respect to the studs 842, so that the latter can suitably protrude. the rounded noses of the latches 843 when the cover 831 closes.
Studs 846 cooperate with upward extensions of two pivoting drive levers 848. at 849 on the flanges 61 and 60. Each of the lower branches of the levers 848 has a curved edge 850 intended to cooperate with the wise bos 851 of two cams 852 fixed on a shaft 459. When the machine is at the rear. blocked position, in which it cannot operate, and also when it is in the position allowing it to operate as a cash register, the cam 852 is. in the position shown in fig. 1.
However, when the machine is brought to the read or reset position, or to an operating position as an adding machine, the shaft 459 rotates and the bosses 851, by their cooperation with the cam surfaces 850 , swing the levers 848 in the dextrorsum direction, after which the locks 843 swing in the senestrous direction, disengage from the studs 842 to release the cover 831 which can then be opened by the user who wishes to have access to the mechanism printing.
A tension device is provided to provide some frictional traction to the supply roll 742. tape recorder (fig. 6 and 8), this before for the purpose of keeping the tape tight when the frame of the tape 743 and 744 is either. at the reading position, or at the printing position, as is. shown respectively in Figs. 2 and 3.
The tension device comprises a friction plate 853 (fig. 6 and 8) provided with tabs which engage freely with the shaft 746. This plate has a slot 854 in which penetrates a pin 855, free in a hole in the shaft. shaft 746. A spring 856 wrapped around shaft 746 has one end looped around an annular groove made in one end of pin 855 to hold the latter in place; the other end of the spring is passed around the downward edge of plate 853.
The spring 856 is provided to bias the plate 853 in the senestorsum direction (fig. 8) so that it presses on the circumference of the supply roll 742 and thus exerts a braking effect on said roll to ensure that the web is . tight when the tape frame is in the read position or the print position.
Pin 855, in cooperation with slot 854, prevents lateral displacement of friction plate 853 on shaft 746 and determines the extent of rotational movement of said plate under the influence of spring 856.
