Coupling device between the cylinder of a typewriter and the line spacing gear. The present invention relates to a coupling device. between the cylinder of a typewriter and the toothed wheel of in terline, of a particularly simple realization compared to the constructions known to date.
In the device which is the subject of the invention, the actuating button of the cylinder, which can be moved axially, is rigidly connected to a part of a cone coupling, of which the other part is integral. of the interline toothed wheel, at least two members sliding with respect to the axis of the cylinder along two parallel axes, cooperating. together to make the solid control button angularly of the cylinder.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
The fi -, -. 1 is an axial section.
Fig. 2 is a cross section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
With reference to the drawing, 1 represents part of the carriage of a typewriter, 2 the cylinder, 3 the axis of the latter. The cylinder 2 and its axis are made integral with one another. the other by the pin 4. On part 1 of the carriage is mounted a bearing 5 in which. rotates the axis 3 which carries, screwed on its end, a disc 6 pierced with three equidistant openings, in which slide rods 7 integral, on the one hand, with the handle button 8 and, on the other hand, of the male part 9 of a cone clutch. This part 9 rotates and slides freely on the axis 3 and is normally engaged with the female part 10 of the clutch, on the periphery of which the interline toothing 11 is cut.
The female part 10 rotates freely on a shoulder of the bearing 5.
A spring 12 bearing, on the one hand, on the disc 6 and, on the other hand, on the male part 9 of the clutch normally maintains the two parts 9 and 10 in engagement.
The operation of this device is easy to understand. In the position shown in fig. 1, the interline toothed wheel 11, integral with part 10, engages with part 9 and. the cylinder 2 can only occupy successive positions corresponding to the spacing of the interline teeth 11 on which the interline pawl acts.
In order to be able to freely rotate the cylinder 2 without its stop position being influenced by the toothing of the wheel 11, it suffices to move the button 8 axially outwards, against the action of the spring. 12.
The two parts 9 and 10 of the clutch are then disengaged and via the rods 7 acting as connecting members between the button 8 and the disc 6 which is. solid with axis 3, the cylinder can be brought into any desired position.
The conical surfaces of the two parts 9 and 10 can be very finely striated along generatrices of these surfaces, in order to avoid relative angular displacements between them when they are in engagement, without it being. necessary to provide a very strong spring 12.
The male part 9 of the clutch can be made in one piece or in two pieces (as indicated by a broken line in the drawing) made integral with one another, for example by welding or by means of rivets.
As a variant, the operating button 8 could be connected to the part 9 of the coupling by a single rod 7 constituting one of the members sliding with respect to the axis of the cylinder, the other sliding member being constituted by an extension 13 of the operating button sliding around the disc 6, the outside diameter of which must. then be almost equal to the internal diameter of said button.
The axis 3 of the cylinder could also be extended so as to slide in a bore provided for this purpose in the man # uvre knob or in a part attached to said knob.
It is understood that the disc 6 could be replaced by any element integral with the axis of the cylinder, having a part eccentric with respect to this axis, this part being engaged with a rod 7 or any other sliding member of the control knob. maneuver.
