Lorsque se produit le retournement axitomatique normal, le pick-up vient occuper la position 7v; mais i comme l'encoche 311 a tourné de l'angle a sans que la goupille 312 ne soit encore dépla cée, le pick-up repose par le bas du canon 308 (fig. 1.1.) sur cette goupille 31.2 et lorsque cette dernière, commandée par le mécanisme (Iii cycle, effectue à son tour la rotation d'an gle ci, elle n'entraîne pas le canon 308;
7. La goupille 391 suit le tronçon I'. Le pick-up se soulève aii niveau 7111.

The talking machine shown comprises a first electric motor 1 fixed under the base plate 2 by means of bolts 3 and the motor shaft 4 of which rotates the record player plate 5 on which is placed a disc 6 including the pick-up 7 must play the upper face through his needle R.
The end of the motor shaft 4 is hollow and forms a thrust bearing 9 in which is pivoted the teirminale ball joint 10 of a straight rod 11 passing through its center a stack of reserve disks 12, the lower disc 12 of which rests on the bearing surface 13 of a movable part in [J articulated to the rod 11, in a longitudinal groove thereof. The rod 11 is of the same type as that described and shown in FIGS. 2 to 6 of the main patent.
The upper end of the rod 11 is supported by a bearing 14 carried by the motor shaft 15 of a second electric motor 16 fixed in a metal housing 17 itself fixed to the base plate 2 by feet 18 , screwed or bolted. On the reserve discs is placed a plate 19, engaged on the rod 11 and intended to prevent the discs from oscillating during their rotation. The upper motor 16 'rotates in the opposite direction to the lower motor 1 and therefore drives the rod 11 which is secured in rotation with its shaft 15, and with the rod 11, the reserve discs in the opposite direction to that of the disc 6 re resting on the turntable 5.
The upper motor 16, its axis 15, the rod 11 and the coupling device between this rod 11 and the axis 15 are identical to those described and represented in the main patent. The same is true of the disc flow control mechanism. Therefore, these parts and this mechanism are not shown and described in detail here. The organs or parts of organs of mechanisms not described which will be mentioned for the understanding of the invention will bear the same reference signs as in the main patent, unless they have been modified.
On the axis 4 (fig. 3) of the lower motor 1. is wedged a toothed pinion 47 with which can be engaged a return pinion 48 which, for its part, is constantly meshed with a star wheel 49 of large diameter, wedged on an axis 50. The pinion 48 is, as in the main patent, the coupling member between the motor 1 and the control mechanism of the disc change cycle. The pinion 48 is engaged with the pinion 47 at the end of the hearing of a disc face and disengaged before the hearing of the next disc face by means of a device identical to that described in the main patent. and not shown here.
The toothed wheel 49, riveted above a barrel 252 is fixed to the axis 50 by means of a tightening screw 253. On this same axis is wedged, by means of a pin 330 (fig. 6) , the control cam 251 for the movements of the acoustic arm, which cam differs significantly from the corresponding cam of the main patent.
From the large diameter toothed wheel 49, the rotation is transmitted to a toothed wheel 62, driven on the axis 63 of a pinion 64. This pinion meshes with a toothed wheel 65 riveted below a barrel 66 fixed. by a tightening screw 74 on an axis 70.
On this axis 70 is fixed the cam 71 controlling the flow rate of the disks, the selection of disks of different diameters and the retoarrneinent of the picli up; this cam is identical to that of the main patent and, as in the main patent also, the gear ratio between the different gears and pinions is such that the cam 71 makes a half turn while the cam 251 makes a full revolution .
The axes 50, 63 and 70 of these different mo biles are pivoted between the two plates 55 and 68 (fig. 2) which form the frame of the mechanism and. are fixed one to the other by four posts 69 riveted in the plate 68 and, screwed to the base plate 2 by means of screws 254, the mechanism for selecting the discs of different diameters is identical to that of written in the main patent; also it is not shown in the accompanying drawing, except those of its components which are necessary for understanding the invention or which have been modified; for example the lever 418 (fig. 4 and 6), corresponding to the lever 118 of the main patent, has been modified in its form; he is.
pivoted at 419 on the underside of the lower plate 68 and its function is identical to that of the corresponding lever of the main breivet. On its end 418 'folded at 420 is fixed a pin 300 placed in the path of the end 99' of the lever 99 of the feeler device; on the other hand, a folded ear 421 is placed in the path of a pin 422 fixed to the upper face of the cam 71. At its opposite end, the lever 418 has two grained contact surfaces: the surface 423, which is furthest from the pivot axis 419, and the surface 424 which is closest to this axis.
These two surfaces are intended to cooperate depending on the position of the lever 418, with the flap 125 forming part of the mechanism for controlling the movements of the acoustic arm. The end 418 'of the lever 41.8 can be ame born in three different positions: (z) Under the action of the pin 422 of: the cam 71 on the lug 421, it is pushed to the extreme left.
b) When the feeler (caster 104 of the main patent), not shown here, abuts against the edge of a 25 em disc, the end 99 'chi lever 99 of the feeler device brings the end 418' of the lever 418 in its middle position; shutter 125 is. then facing the surface 424 closest to the pivot axis 419.
c) When the feeler (caster 104 of the principal patent) rolls on the lower surface of a 30 cm disc, the end 99 'of the lever 99 brings the end 418' of the lever 418 to its extreme right position in which it is the surface 423 which is in front of the shutter 125.
 command pick = up mechanism.
The sound reproducing device itself comprises the single acoustic arm 20 carrying the pick-up 7 intended to play successively the underside of the lower disc 121 of the reserve stack resting on the bearing surface 13 of the door rod. -disks 11 and the upper face of the disc 6 resting on the turntable 5. The pick-up 7 is in the form of a box enclosing the electro-mechanical transformation members. This box, of sound pressure molded material, carries a hollow shaft 522 (FIG. 8) which is rigidly fixed to it. This axis is pivoted in a barrel 524 which is itself integral with the front part 301. of the united acoustic arm 20.
This arm 20 consists of the front part 301, two parallel arms 302- and: 303 and a base 304. A pin 525, screwed into the front part- 301, enters a notch 305 of the hollow shaft 522. This notch is. shaped so that by cooperating with the pin 525 they prevent any axial displacement of the hollow shaft 522, tc, ut by allowing it to undergo a maximum rotation of 180. Pin 525 and notch 305 determine two well-marked pick-up positions 7, position T, in solid lines, with single needle 8 pointing down at 8 'and position 7 "(in phantom lines) ) with the 8 in 8 "needle pointing upwards.
The turning over of the pick-up 7 with respect to the acoustic arm is controlled by a device comprising the following members: The end 306 of the hollow shaft 522 (FIG. 8) is cut in the form of a pinion; this pinion meshes with a toothed wheel: bell-shaped 307 riveted to a barrel 308; the latter pivots on the scope 309 of a screw with scope 31.0 fixed to the front part 301 of the acoustic arm. The barrel 308 has a notch 311, the dimensions of which are such that a pin 312 can be introduced therein when it is in -face of this notch.
The pin 312 is fixed in the semi-spherical head 313 of an axis 314 which pivots; in two guns 315 and 316 screwed into a rauded hole 317 of the base plate 2 of the machine. A collar 318 of the axis 314 forms the vertical stop of the latter. At the lower end of the axis 314 is fixed, using a screw 319, a barrel 320 riveted to a flat part 321 in the form of a sector forming both a crank for the connecting rod 221 which is articulated to it in 322 and abutment by its ends 323 and 324 (fig. 13) cooperating with a pin 325 screwed into the base key plate 2.
A spring 326, stretched between the lower end of the pin 325 and the articulation pin 322 of the parts 321 and 221, determines two well-marked positions 3211 and 32111 (fig. 13) of the sector-shaped part 321. The connecting rod 221 is controlled by a pin 224 fixed to the underside of the cam 71 (fig. 6 and 13).
When the cam 71 rotates in the direction of the arrow f2 (fig. 13), the pin 224 successively occupies the positions 2241, 22411, 224111 and 2241v. The passage from 2241 to 22411 causes the connecting rod 221 to pass from the position 2211 to the position 22111 and the part 321 from the position 3211 to the position 32111. The axis 314 therefore undergoes a rotation of an angle α. When the pin 312 is engaged in the notch 311 of the barrel 308, the latter also undergoes a rotation of the same angle α, a rotation which is transmitted by the wheel 307 and the pinion 306 to the pick-up 7.
The angle a and the gear ratio of 307 and 306 are calculated so that when the pin 224 passes from 2241 to 22411 there is a dextrorsum rotation of 180 of the pick-up 7 bringing the needle 8 from the position. tion 8 'to position 8 "(fig. 8). Likewise, the passage of the pin 224 from 224111 to 2241v causes a senestrorsum rotation of 180 of the pick-up 7, rotation bringing the needle 8 to position 8'.
The movements of the pick-up during the changer cycle are as follows: During. the hearing of the upper face of the disc 6 resting on the turntable 5, the pick-up occupies position 71 (fig. 5). At the end of the hearing of this disc face, the pick-up lifts above disc 6 and comes to occupy the position 7111 intermediate between disc 6 and disc 121 resting on the on the bearing face 13. Coming out of the periphery of the discs, the pick-up comes to occupy the position 7v (fig. 1), the axis of the barrel 308 coming to be placed in the extension of the axis of the rod 314.
The pick-up then lowers to level 71v, the base of the barrel 308 resting on the collar 318, the position of the various components being provided such that the pin 312 is located opposite the notch 311 and penetrates the inside the latter. The pickup is then turned over as previously described, then raised again to intermediate level VII, but this time with needle 8 pointing up. Brought below the first groove of the upper disc 121, the pick-up is raised until its needle comes into contact. with this first groove.
At the end of the audition of the underside of the disc 121, the pick-up is lowered to the intermediate level 7111, brought to the outside of the discs in position 7v, lowered to the level 71v where the pin 312 , which has not changed position, is found opposite the notch 311 into which it enters. The pick-up is then turned over as described and the needle 8 is again in position to play the upper face of the record resting on the record player 5.
The advantages of this turning device over that described and shown in the main patent are as follows: 1 The pick-up 7 can be turned by hand from one to the other at any time, except that of the automatic turning. other of its two playing positions, without the changer cycle being permanently disturbed. When in fact the pick-up 7 is turned by hand when it does not occupy its position 7v which is that of the automatic overturning, the barrel 308 driven by the wheel 307 and the pinion 306 rotates through an angle a.
When the normal axitomatic reversal occurs, the pick-up comes to the 7v position; but as the notch 311 has turned from angle a without the pin 312 having yet moved, the pick-up rests from the bottom of the barrel 308 (fig. 1.1.) on this pin 31.2 and when the latter , controlled by the mechanism (Iii cycle, in turn performs the angle rotation, it does not drive the barrel 308;
the pick-up which already occupied the born return position thus does not undergo any new rotation and e #_, t in the normal position for the hearing of the next disk space. When the pick-up covers one of the two positions of the fis. 8, it can also be rotated 180 i @ by hand except for the duration of the automatic reversal. Indeed, the pin 31.2 is driven by the notch 311 and in turn drives the connecting rod 221 which can pass from one or the other of its positions thanks to the elongated slide 223.
This is the case when the changer is. stopped at the end of the hearing. The pin 224 then occupies the position 224vi.
2 Turning does not introduce any effort. on the pick-up pivot points. The semi-spherical part 313 of the axis 314 by engaging in the barrel 308 causes a locking of the pick-up against you lateral displacement. On the other hand, the sides of the handle 311. not being parallel, but forming an angle P (fig. 10), there is also a locking in the direction of lifting of the pick-up, by the through the pin 312. Thus, the pick-up, an essentially movable and light component in the playing position, forms during the automatic overturning, a rigid whole with the frame of the changer without its pivots being subjected to an additional force. thereby.
The movements of the acoustic arm 20 <it carries the reversible pick-up 7 are controlled by the cam 251 wedged by means of the pin 330 on the axis 50. On its upper face, the cam 251 comprises the running tracks. lateral movements of the acoustic arm. These movements are determined as follows (fis. 4 and 6): A lever 331, pivoted at 332 on the lower face of the lower plate 68 of the mechanism, carries, on its lower face, a pin 333. This pin is guided by the outer side wall 334 of a raceway 335, against which wall the pin 333 is held by a spring 336 fixed, on the one hand, to the lever 331 and, on the other hand, to a pin 337 riveted to the underside of plate 68.
The lever 331 is articulated by its end 331 'to a connecting rod 338 by means of a rivet 339, a non-ca 340 and a washer 341, the barrel 340 being able to slide freely in an elongated slide 342 of the connecting rod 338. A spring 343 tends to hold the barrel 340 against the end 342 'of the slide 342.
The connecting rod 338 is articulated at its other end 338 ', by means of a pin 344, a barrel 345 and a ron delle 346, to. a lever 347 having a window 348. The lever 347 is pivoted on a bearing screw 349, by means of a barrel 350 riveted to the lever 3.17. Screw 349 is attached to base plate 2 of the. talking machine. Lever 347 can occupy three main positions: 111 Position for hearing a 30 cm disc. The flap 125 of the lever 3.17 abuts against the surface 423 of the lever 418 against which it is applied by the action of the spring 336.
The edge 351 of the window 3.18 has brought the pin 352 integral with the acoustic arm in the position 3521, the position in which the needle 8 is located on the vertical of the first grooves of a 30 cm disc.
2 Position for hearing a 25 cm disc, determined by the area 424 of the vier 418.
3 Position for overturning the pick-up 7. The edge 353 of the window 348 brings the pin 352 into the. position 3521 'corresponding to the pick-up reversal position 7v. This position is determined by an adjustable stop 354 'formed by the end of a part 354 fixed by a screw 355 to the base plate 2. When the pin 333 is brought into position 3331 by the raceway 335, the spring 343 applies the pin 352 against the stop 354 'by means of the connecting rod 338 and the side 353 of the window 348. The acoustic arm 20 (fig. 5) is pivoted by its base 304 around a hori pin. zontal 457 integral with the two branches of a bracket 456.
Two lugs 454 and 455 of the same bracket carry two screws 452, 453 with conical points 450, 451 fixed in place by two locknuts 363, 364. The conical points of the screws engage in corresponding lugs of a piece 449 profiled in [J, ears pierced with a conical hole. The conical tips 450, 451 constitute the pivots of the vertical pivot axis of the acoustic arm. The part 449 is welded to a bracket 365, itself fixed by two screws 366 and 367 to the base plate 2.
The lateral movements of the acoustic arm around this vertical axis are controlled in the pick-up playing position by the grooves of the disc played. At the time of a change of face of the disc, these movements are controlled by means of the pin 352 fixed to the lower end 356 of a part 357 fixed by two screws 359 to 360 to the yoke 456. The control of the pin 352 by the window 348 of the lever 347 has been previously described.
The lifting and lowering movements of the pick-up are carried out as follows: The folded upper end 358 of the part 357 serves as a pivot bearing for a pin 368 integral with a semi-circular pulley 369 having- two cheeks 370 and 371 (fig. 1 and 5). This pulley receives in the groove formed between the cheeks 370 and 371 the end of a coil spring 372 fixed, on the one hand, to the pulley 369 at 373 and, on the other hand, to a spacer 374 connecting the two arms 302 and 303. On the other hand, a cable 375 is also fixed to the pulley 369 by means of a screw 376 pierced with a hole 377.
The cable 375 leaves the pulley 369 opposite the spring 372, passes through the base 304 of the acoustic arm through an opening 378, also passes through the two screws 452 and 453 which are drilled axially for this purpose, and attaches to the end 379 'of an angled lever 379 (fig. 7) located below the base plate 2 after having passed through the latter through the opening 380.
Depending on the position occupied by the angled lever 379, the pick-up works at different levels: 1 The lever 379 occupies the position 3791. The lengths of the cable 375 and of the spring 372 are chosen as that this spring is then completely relaxed, when the pick-up rests by its needle 8 on the first disc 6 lowered onto the turntable 5. The pick-up therefore presses with its own weight (compensated by a set of springs not described) on this disc 6. When the discs accumulate on the plate 5, the pick-up follows the gradual rise in level, pivoting around the horizontal pin 457.
2 The lever 379 occupies the position 379111. The pick-up is lifted by means of the cable 375 and the spring 372 up to the output level 711I of the periphery of the discs.
3 Lever 379 occupies position 3791v. The pick-up lowers to the corresponding 71v level.
4 Lever 379 occupies position 379v. The pick-up suspended by the cable 375 and by the spring 372, which is tensioned by the weight of the pick-up, reaches a level such that its needle 8, directed upwards, touches the lower surface of the disc 121 resting on the support surface 13.
The lever 379 occupies position 37911. The additional travel 379V to 37911 causes an additional tension of the spring 372 which applies the pick-up against the disc 121 with the pressure necessary for a good hearing.
The different positions of the angled lever 379 are determined by the rolling tracks arranged on the underside of the cam 251 (fig. 6). The elbow lever 379 is pivoted by means of a rivet 385 and a washer 386 in the ear 382 of a bracket 381 fixed below the base plate 2 by two screws 383 and 384. At the end 379 "of the lever 379 is hooked a rod 387, the other end of which is hooked to the end 388 of an angled lever 390 bent at 389 and pivoted at 392 on a column 393 screwed under the plate 68.
The opposite end of the lever 390 carries a pin 391 which, by following the tracks (the bearing of the underside of the cam 251, controls the movements of the elbow lever 379. These raceways present a series of sectors oriented differently. it is a sector concentric with the axis of the cam and corresponds to position 3791 of lever 379; the pick-up plays the upper face of a disc resting on the turntable 5.
B changes lever 379 from 3791 to 379111. C is a sector concentric with the axis corresponding to position 379111; the pick-up is at the output level of the disc periphery.
D changes lever 379 from 379111 to 3791v. E is a part concentric with the axis; the pick-up is at rollover level.
F changes lever 379 from 3791v to 3791I1. G, sector concentric to the axis, corresponds to position 379111; the pick-up is at the intermediate level.
H changes lever 379 from 379111 to 37911. 1 is a sector concentric to the axis; lever 379 remains at 3791 'and the pick-up is at disc 121 clearance.
.l changes lever 379 from .37911 to 379111. Pin 391 again follows sectors C, D, E, F and G.
K changes lever 379 from 379111 to 3791, a passage which completes the pick-up cycle. The needle 394 is actuated at each turn of the cam 251, opening the sectors H and K alternately with the pin 391. The needle 394 is pivoted on a pin 395 riveted in the cam 251. An arm 396 extends the needle. on the other side of its pivoting and ends in a cylindrical part 397 exiting at a right angle and passing through the cam 251 in its entire thickness through the opening 398. On the upper face of the cam 251, this cylindrical part 397 penetrates in the opening of a forked lever 399 pivoted on a screw with seat 400 fixed to the cam 251 (fig. 4).
The lever 399 has a folded ear 401. descending into a recess 402 of the cam 251. In this recess is also a cam 403 integral with a star wheel 404; this assembly is pivoted on a screw 405 fixed to the cam 251. A threaded spring 406, fixed by the screw 407 on the cam 251, hand holds the lug 401 in contact with the cam 403. At each passage of the wheel star 404 vant a pin 408 fixed below the plate 68 (fig. 3 and 6), this star wheel is driven by a quarter turn.
Cam 403 rotates by the same angle and determines the position of lever 402 and, therefore, of needle 394.
Cycle says disc changer.
1. At the end of the audition of the upper face of the record 6 resting on the turntable 5, the terminal steep-pitch groove of the record gives to the needle 8, and through it to the pick-up 7 , a sudden pulse transmitted by the acoustic arm 20, the lever 357 and the pin 352 to an automatic release device (not shown) which brings the idler gear 48 into engagement with the drive gear 47. All of the cams 251 and 71 then begin to rotate in the direction of arrows f 1 and f2. 2. Pin 391, which was located during audition of the upper face of disc 6 on section A of raceway 409, describes section B. The pick-up lifts to level 7111.
During this time, the pin 408 has, in passing, causes the star wheel 404 to turn by one step and the needle 394 to pivot, which closes the entrance to section K and opens that of section H.
3. The pin 333 (fig. 4) comes into contact with the ramp L of the raceway 335, causing the pick-up to exit to the inversion position 7v. Arrived at the start of the concentric troneon 11, the pin 333 has t linked the pick-up in a position determined by the stop 354 'where the axis of the barrel 308 is. in the extension of the axis 314. The spring 343 absorbs the excess travel of the pin 333 after the pin 352 has come into contact with the stop 354 '.
It is this same spring 343 which is stretched when the pick-up is held by hand to prevent it from coming out of the periphery of the discs, thus preventing the mechanism from jamming.
4. Pin 391 follows section D of raceway 409, causing the pick-up to drop to the 71V overturn level.
5. During this time, the cam 71 which controls the selection, the speed of the discs and the reversal of the pick-up has turned a quarter of a turn. The pin 422 has steadily pushed the ear 421 of the lever 418 bringing the pin 300 into its extreme left position. The ramp 83 then controls, by the roller 84 of the selector, all the selection operations described in the main patent, finally bringing the lever 418 into the position corresponding to the diameter of the disc 121 resting on the bearing surface 13.
6. At the same time, the pin 224 of the cam 71 moves the connecting rod 221 from the position 2211 to the position 22111, causing the pick-up to be turned so that the needle 8 points upwards.
7. The pin 391 follows the section I '. The pick-up lifts aii level 7111.
8. The pin 333 follows the ramp N under the action of the spring 336, driving the lever 347 until the flap 125 abuts against the suitable surface 423 or 424 of the lever 418. The needle 8 of the pick-up is then vertically above the first grooves of the disc 121.
9. The pin 391 traverses the section H and arrives at 1, bringing the needle 8 of the pick-up into contact with the underside of the disc 121 and ensuring by the tension of the spring 372 the pressure necessary for hearing this face. .
10. The idler gear 48 moves away from the drive gear 47 and the changer mechanism remains stationary while auditioning the underside of disc 121.
