Process for the preparation of a disazo dye. It has been found that a valuable disazo dye can be prepared by adding 2 liters of an amine of the formula
EMI0001.0005
where R represents an acid residue which can be split off, splits off to urea by means of phosgene: and splits off the acid residue R by treatment with saponifying agents.
[) he new dye is a brownish-red powder that dissolves in water with a red color and dyes cotton in red tones.
The aminoazo dyes of the above formula which serve as starting materials in the present process can be obtained, for example, by anotating an 0-ester of 1-amino-8-oxynaplrthalin-3,6-clisulfonic acid and adding 1-amino-2-methoxy Combined -5-tert-butylbenzene, the coupling advantageously being carried out in a manner known per se in acidic, preferably weakly acidic, medium.
As the 0-ester of 1-anrino-8-oxynaphtlraline-3,6-disulfonic acid, it is useful to use those which have the remainder of an aromatic sulfonic acid, e.g. B. contain a p-Toltiolsulfonsäurerest.
The linkage of 2 mol of the above amirioazo dyes to urea by means of phosgene can be carried out in a conventional manner, for. B. in weakly alkaline solution at a slightly elevated temperature.
The saponification of the disazo dyes obtained in order to split off the acid radicals R can advantageously be carried out in an alkaline medium, e.g. B. at a moderately elevated temperature, can be taken.
The l-amino-2-methoxy-5-tertiary-butylbenzene used is obtained, for example, by condensing isobutyl alcohol with phenol in the presence of zinc chloride. The condensation product is nitrated with dilute nitric acid in glacial acetic acid, then the sodium salt of the o-nitrophenol obtained with. Dimethyl sulfate reacted and finally the nitro group reduced in a known manner with iron and hydrochloric acid. The new base can be distilled at 146 to 148 under 18 mm of Queekilver pressure and then has a melting point of 28 to 29.
Example: 47.3 parts of the p-toluene sulfoester of 1-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid are dianotized in a known manner and the suspension is combined with 17.9 parts 1- Amino-2-methoxy-5-tert-butylbenzene. The resulting aminoazo dye is isolated from the coupling mixture and dissolved in 2000 parts of water with the addition of 40 parts of sodium carbonate.
Phosgene is introduced into this solution at around 30 until no more aminoazo dye can be detected in the reaction mixture. The dye is then deposited under acidic conditions and dissolved in 1500 parts of water. To split off the toluenesulfonic acid residues, the solution is mixed with 60 parts of sodium hydroxide and heated to 80 for 3/1 hours.
After cooling down, the dye is separated out by adding sodium chloride and 30 1 / o hydrochloric acid, filtered off and dried.
