Process for the production of a copper-containing dye. It has been found that a valuable copper-containing dye can be obtained by referring to the disazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0006
lets copper-donating agent act until the methoxy groups are split.
The new dye is a dark colored substance. which dissolves in water with a deep blue color and dyes cotton in greenish blue tones with good wetness properties and excellent lightfastness.
The disazo dye of the above formula which is used as starting material in the present process can be prepared by reacting tetrazotized 4, -1'-diamiiio-3,3'-dimetlioxydiphenyl on the one hand with 1., 8-dioxynaplitliaiin-3,6-disulphonic acid and on the other combined with 2- (p-chlorobenzoyl) -aiiiino-5-olviiaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid.
Here, the tetrazo compound is expediently first coupled with 1,8-dioxvnaplithalin-3,6-disulfonic acid in a weakly alkaline medium. and then the diazoazo compound obtained in a somewhat more alkaline medium and, if desired, with the addition of some pyridine with the 2- (p-chlorobenzoyl)
-amino-5-oxynapht.halin-7-sulphonic acid combined.
The disazo dye can be deposited and isolated from the coupling gel prior to treatment with copper donating agents. But it can also, especially if the second coupling takes place in the presence of pyridine, is treated with copper-releasing agents without deposition, i.e.
the copper-releasing agent can be added directly to the coupling mixture after the coupling has ended - if necessary after neutralization or blunting of the excess alkali - and the conversion into the complex copper compound - for example by heating to temperatures of 80 to 900 C for several hours - immediately then taken without separating out the metal-free dye
will.
As copper-releasing agents come in the present process z. B. salts of mono- or divalent copper, such as copper (I) - ehlorid or copper (II) sulfate, into consideration, and also compounds that contain copper in a complex complex bond. In particular, copper amine complexes are suitable for this purpose, such as.
B. the complex copper compounds obtainable from ammonia, alkyl amines such as ethylamine, morpholine, pyridine or piperidine. So that the complete splitting of the alkoxy groups takes place with the formation of the copper complex, it is usually necessary to stop the treatment with the copper-releasing agents at elevated temperature, e.g.
B. at 80 to 900 C, and carried out for several hours. It is advisable to work in an aqueous medium. If necessary, the treatment with copper-releasing agents can be carried out in the presence of suitable additives; as such, the following may be mentioned: Bases such as ammonia and organic bases, preferably an excess of the base that is already contained in the molecule of the copper amine complex, if used, and also other acid-binding agents.
Good results are also achieved if the treatment with copper-releasing agents according to the method of Swiss patent No. 261365 z. B. takes place in the presence of an ethanolamine.
Example1.- 36.4 parts of the disodium salt of 1,8-dioxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid and 25 g of crystalline. Sodium acetate are dissolved in 250 parts of water and combined at 50 with the tetrazo compound of 24.4 parts of 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dimethoxydiphenyl. Gradual addition of 80 parts of 10% sodium carbonate solution brings the formation of the monoazo dye to an end.
A solution of 40 parts of the monosodium salt of 2- (p-chlorobenzoyl) -amino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid, 15 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate and 100 parts of pyridine in 300 parts of water is then added and the mixture is stirred. until the coupling is terminated.
(The dye thus obtained dissolves in water with a blue color and dyes cotton in blue tones.) In order to convert the dye into the copper complex, the coupling mixture is diluted to a volume of 2500 parts and, at 600, a crystal of 50 parts is used. Copper sulfate, 80 parts of 25% ammonia and 150 parts of water prepared solution. The mixture is heated to 85-900 for 20 hours and the dye is then salted out by adding sodium chloride, filtered off and dried.
Example 2: The Tetrazoverbinduing from 24.4 parts 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dimethoxydiphenyl is according to the information of Example 1 with 36.4 parts of the disodium salt of 1,8 Dioxynaphthalene-3,6-disilfonic acid and 40 parts of the monosodium salt of 2- (p-chlorobenzoyl) - amino - 5 - oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid gekup pelt.
After the coupling has ended, the disazo dye is salted out at 700 ° and filtered off.
The dye paste is stirred with water, finally adding enough water to make a volume of 2500 parts. 10 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate and 50 parts of monoethanol amine are added and the whole is added at 50 to 600 with a crystal of 50 parts. Copper sulfate, 90 parts of 25% ammonia and 200 parts of water prepared solution. Now heated, one? 0 hours to 80 to 900, then salt out the dye by adding sodium chloride, filter it out and dry it.
It has practically the same properties as the kupferhal term dye obtainable according to Example 1.
