EMI0001.0003
Process for the production of a copper-containing dye. It has been found that a valuable copper-containing dye is obtained from the disazo dye of the formula.
EMI0001.0003
lets the copper-releasing agent act until the two ethoxy groups in the diphenyl radical are split up.
The new dye is a dark colored substance that dissolves in water with a blue color and dyes cotton in pure, vivid blue tones.
The disazo dye of the above formula which is used as the starting material in the present process can be prepared by reacting tetrazotized 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dimethoxy diphenyl on the one hand with 1-oxynaplrthalin-3,6,8-trisulfonic acid and on the other hand combined with 2-oxy-3-naplithoesäurearrilid.
Here, the tetrazo compound is expediently first mixed in a weakly alkaline medium. of 1-oxy-naplitlialin-3,6,8-trisulforric acid and then the diazoazo compound obtained is combined in a somewhat more alkaline medium and, if desired, with the addition of some pyridine with 2-oxv-3-naplrthoic anilide.
The disazo dye can be deposited and isolated from the coupling mixture prior to treatment with copper donating agents. However, it can also, especially if the second coupling has taken place in the presence of pyridine, be treated with the copper-releasing agent without separation,
This means that the copper-releasing agent can be added directly to the coupling mixture after the coupling has ended - if necessary after neutralization or blunting of the excess alkali - and the conversion into the complex copper compound - for example by heating for several hours at temperatures of 80 to 900 C - immediately afterwards without separating the metal-free dye before.
In the present process, for example, salts of monovalent or divalent copper, such as copper (I) chloride or copper (II) sulfate, can be used as copper-releasing agents, as well as compounds which contain copper in complex bonds. In particular, copper amine complexes are suitable for this purpose, such as.
B. from ammonia, alkyl amines, such as Ethy lamin, yIorpholine, pyridine or piperidine, available. complex copper compounds. So that the complete cleavage of the alkoxy groups takes place with the formation of the copper complex, it is usually necessary to treat the copper-releasing agents at elevated temperatures, eg.
B. at 80 to 900 C -and during several hours. It is advisable to work in an aqueous medium. If necessary, the treatment with copper-releasing agents can be carried out in the presence of suitable additives; as such the following may be mentioned: bases such as ammonia and organic bases, preferably an excess of that base which is already contained in the molecule of the copper amine complex that may be used, as well as other acid-binding agents.
Good results are also achieved if the treatment with copper-releasing agents according to the method of Swiss patent No. 261365, e.g. B. in the presence of an ethanolamine.
Example: 2-1.4 parts of 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dimethoxy-diphenyl are tetrazotized as usual and the tetrazo compound at 50 and in the presence of 22 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate coupled with 45 parts of the sodium salt of 1-oxynaphthalene-3,6,8-trisulfonic acid.
After formation of the intermediate compound, a solution of 26.3 parts of 2-oxy-3-naphthoic anilide, 4 parts of sodium hydroxide, 15 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate and 100 parts of pyridine in 200 parts of water are added and, after stirring for several hours, the mixture is stopped at 100 Coupling. The dye dissolves in water with a blue color and dyes cotton in pure, blue tones.
In order to convert the dye into its copper complex, the coupling mixture is diluted with warm water to a volume of 2500 parts, mixed with 250 parts of an ammoniacal copper sulphate solution (corresponding to 50 parts of CuSO4.5 11.0 and 13.6 parts of NH3) and heated to 80 to 900 for 16 hours. The dye is then precipitated with sodium chloride, filtered and dried.
