Electric heating device and method for its manufacture. The present invention relates to an electric heating device, of the type comprising at least one element. heater consisting of a metal tube inside which is disposed an electrical resistor coated in a refractory and dielectric material, and a process for its manufacture.
The application of such tubular elements to the constitution of heating plates gives results which are advantageous by the speed with which the heating of the plate is obtained. The heat released by the electrical resistance is transmitted to the bottom of the receptacle to be heated mainly by conductivity, thanks to the contact surface between this bottom and the tubes. This is why there is interest. to increase this contact surface. However, the heating power per unit area of the plate is limited by the temperature not to be exceeded, with a view to making the electric resistance last as long as possible. The highest temperature is reached during idling, that is to say without a container to be heated on the plate.
The calories released by the electrical resistance are then evacuated by the outer surface of the tube and this evacuation occurs all the better as the area of the outer surface of the tube is greater and as the natural circulation of air around the tube. tube is more active.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that the cross section of the tube has the convex polygonal shape having., For a given perimeter, the smallest area.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the heating element is formed from a metal tube inside which. there is an electrical resistance which is coated in a refractory and dielectric material, in that the tube is shaped so as to give it a cross section having the convex polygonal shape which, for a given perimeter, has the smallest area , so as to compress the refractory material inside the tube as much as possible, without modifying its length.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment and. a variant of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 and 2 are. partial cross-sectional views of this embodiment, and fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a variant of a heating element.
The device shown comprises two heating elements each consisting of a metal tube a of triangular cross section = Taire inside which is disposed an electrical resistance a 'coated in a refractory and dielectric material b. This material b, to be compact, was compressed by a shrinking operation or other deformation operation of the tube, intended to reduce the area of the originally circular section of the tube, previously filled with material b, keeping the same perimeter and without modifying the length of this tube.
The triangular shape of the cross section, preferably equilateral or isosceles, is the one which is particularly suitable, particularly in the present case, because it is the convex polygonal shape which, for a given perimeter, has the smallest area. The triangle is arranged in such a way that its side c is in the plane which will serve as a support for the bottom d of the container to be heated, thus constituting a large contact surface (fig. 1).
On the other hand, the shape of the convergent channel e, formed by the adjacent side faces of two tubes a (fig. 2), provides an increase in the average speed of ascent of the air between these walls, hence better evacuation of heaters by convection.
Although it has been shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 two separate tubes, one could provide a single tube folded on itself, so as to for mer two neighboring parallel elements.
In the variant shown in FIG. 3, the triangular cross section of the tube has a flat side arranged horizontally and two oblique sides f curved, so as to facilitate the circulation of air and the licking of the walls of the tube by this air.
The device described has the following advantages: 1 Ensuring as large a contact surface as possible between the bottom of the vessel to be heated and the heating elements.
2 Allow, in idle operation, optimum natural cooling of these elements. 3 Obtain high compression of the insulating material without changing the initial length of the tube.
