De préférence, le tuyau 28 conduisant. à la soufflerie 29 s'étend verticalement vers le bais jusqu'à un coude, à partir duquel il s'étend vers un côté de la chaudière, ou (comme représenté) vers l'arrière de celle-ci; une légère valve à clapet 31 est montée de manière à pouvoir pivoter sur le bord supérieur d'une ouverture 32 (fig. 2), pratiquée dans la partie verticale du tuyau et entourée d'un siège 33 appro prié, de façon que, lorsque la soufflerie est en action, la valve31. soit maintenue sur le siège 33 et empêche l'air de s'échapper du tuyau 28;
Water boiler. This invention relates to a water pipe. The water boiler according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises walls, side and rear, and a ceiling inclined from top to bottom towards the front, these walls and this base plate being arranged so as to form compartments. communicating with each other and intended to be filled with water, a floor comprising an air supply opening surmounted by a hollow part intended to support a layer of fuel, said part being cooled by water, a channel of fuel supply extending inside the boiler from an opening made through the sloping ceiling,
near the lower end thereof, up to a point above said hollow part, and a fuel hopper having a bottom inclined from top to bottom towards the front and arranged to be able to be placed on the ceiling of the boiler, an opening being made in this bottom and corresponding with said opening made in the ceiling of the boiler.
The fuel hopper can be fixed or removable.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, constituting a small boiler. Fig. 1 is. a front elevation showing the boiler with the addition of a baking oven.
Fi ,. 2 is a side elevation in section taken along line II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 2, and Fig. 4 is a detail view showing in plan the secondary air supply means.
The small domestic water boiler shown comprises a combustion chamber 1 of rectangular shape in plan, but the rear height of which is greater than the front height. It has an expensive rectangular flat plan 2, and at the rear and on its two lateral sides vertical walls 4, 5 and 6; it finally comprises a ceiling 3 which is inclined from top to bottom forward, for example at 45. The floor 2 shown is re @ # etu refractory bricks 2a but, particularly in large models of boilers, it can be hollow and constitute a water chamber.
The rear wall 4, the side walls 5 and 6 and the inclined ceiling 3 are formed of hollow parts, the internal spaces thereof freely communicating with each other, the water return pipe to. the boiler (not shown) opening in the lower part of one of the vertical walls 4, 5 or 6 or inside the floor 2 when the latter is hollow. The water outlet pipe (also not shown) is connected to the upper end of the rear wall 4 or to the ceiling of the boiler and an opening 7 is arranged to allow the gaseous products of the combustion to escape. of bedroom 1.
This opening 7 is made in the rear wall 4, and in the part thereof adjacent to the lower wall of the ceiling 3. In the boiler shown, the front part of the boiler is formed by the edges of the expensive plane 2, the sides 5 and 6 and the ceiling 3, the rectangular opening thus formed between these elements being surrounded by a frame 8 (FIG. 2).
This frame can be closed by a simple door; in the example shown, its lower part is closed by a door or a shutter 9 mounted on hinges 10 fixed to its lower edge, and its upper part is closed by two vertical hinged doors 11.
Each of these doors 11 is a hollow part having a front wall formed by a transparent or translucent material, for example glass or mica, and by a suitable frame and a rear wall formed by a grid 11a with which a sliding grid 11b cooperates. for forming a baffle closure device capable of being closed to protect glass or the like.
On the inclined bottom plate 3 of the boiler is mounted a hopper 13 having vertical side walls 13a, a vertical front wall 13b and a. bottom 13th tilted from top to bottom forward. The inclination of the bottom 13c is the same as that of the ceiling 3 of the boiler, so that the hopper 13 fits tightly on the latter, forward sliding being prevented by stop plates 12 fixed to the lower edge. from the ceiling 3.
The hopper may have retaining edges at the lower part of its walls 13ca and has inclined interior plates 14, disposed near its lower end, to guide the fuel towards a central discharge port 15 formed in its bottom and provided to correspond to an opening 16 made in the ceiling 3 of the boiler. The wall having this opening 16 (see FIG. 2) is extended by an inclined channel 17 which ends above the center of the floor 2, 2a of the boiler.
The channel 17 has an adjustable lower end part 17a telescopically engaged inside this channel and held by a clamping device 18 or by other means fulfilling the same purpose. Below the end of channel 17, a dome-shaped part 19, intended to support the fuel, is mounted on the floor 2, 2a of the boiler.
The part 19 is hollow, its base 19a, also in the shape of a dome, is arranged above a perforated plate 20, supported by the floor of the boiler; this base 19a is fixed to this plate by hard penny from its lower edge at spaced points, so as to provide exits 21 for the outlet of the air, between the lower edge of said part and said plate, in the direction of the rear wall 4 and side walls 5, 6 of the fireplace.
On the dome-shaped piece 19 are fixed an inclined water pipe 22, which connects the interior space of said piece to the interior space of the rear wall 4 of the boiler, and it pipe 23, almost horizontal, which connects said interior spaces - near the expensive plane 2, 2a of the boiler. In larger boilers where the floor constitutes a water chamber, the pipe 23_ can be connected to the latter.
An air pipe 24 passing through part 19 and opening into the space below it, extends upwards, closely attached to the inclined water pipe 22 (it can be welded or brazed on it or form a whole with liû) over a short distance, to end with a vertical part on which is mounted a horseshoe pipe 25 (fig. 2 and 4) sant the fuel supply pipe 17, 17a and having, in its outer wall, a series of openings 26 for the outflow of air.
The air pipe 24 is strongly heated during the operation of the boiler and thus heats the air which passes through it, - damage due to overheating being avoided by the close fitting of the pipes. 'air and water 24 and 22. In the floor 2 of the boiler, est. provided a central opening 27, located below the per-drilled plate 20, and a pipe 28 connects the outlet of a blower 29 to the opening of the plate 20, through the floor of the boiler. The boiler shown is mounted on short legs 30 and the blower 29, with its electric motor, is housed below the boiler and a little behind.
The motor is controlled by a thermostat (not shown) which is preferably of the immersion type, and which can be arranged in the hot water outlet pipe, or in an opening made through a side wall ( 5 or 6) of the boiler, adjacent to the upper end of the ceiling 3.
Preferably, the pipe 28 leading. to the blower 29 extends vertically towards the bay to an elbow, from which it extends towards one side of the boiler, or (as shown) towards the rear thereof; a slight flap valve 31 is mounted so as to be able to pivot on the upper edge of an opening 32 (fig. 2), made in the vertical part of the pipe and surrounded by an appropriate seat 33, so that, when the blower is in action, the valve 31. is maintained on the seat 33 and prevents air from escaping from the pipe 28;
on the other hand, when the blower is not working, the natural draft which is established through the hearth forces the valve 31 to move inwards, out of its seat 33, to allow air to enter the chamber. pipe 28, and thence into the fuel layer. For certain fuels, additional air can be sent through slits or openings in the door 9, suitable adjustment means being provided.
In order to allow the supply of gaseous fuel when it is desired to use the boiler for short periods without lighting the fire each time, a vertical pipe 34 (fig. 2) is provided, which passes through the wall of the elbow of the boiler. pipe 28, enters this pipe and terminates just below the dome-shaped piece 19, 19a, its outer end being connected by pipe 35 to a source of illuminating gas. In large boilers, the vertical pipe 34 may also be used to deliver water, or steam, to the furnace when coke or the like is burned.
A sliding part 36, in the form of a blade, is provided so as to close the opening of the hopper 13 during the cleaning operations. This part could also be replaced by a blade in the form of a cylinder sector sliding in a reinforcement cylinder in front of the front wall of the hopper, this blade being mounted: on a horizontal pivot controlled by an external handle . The active edge of the. blade 36 may include claws or fingers so as to facilitate its penetration into the fuel. The blade can also be replaced by a series of claws or curved fingers.
In the example shown, the upper end of the hopper 13 is provided with a hinged door 37, but it could also be provided so as to receive a cover formed from a sheet. In this case, this cover can be replaced by a rectangular extension of the hopper, in order to increase the capacity of the latter, the cover then fitting onto said extension of the hopper. After the part 36 has been brought into the closed position, the hopper 1.3 can be easily disengaged from the stop plates 12 and removed for filling. The operation. of the boiler follows from the above description. The fuel descends from the hopper 7.3 onto the dome-shaped piece 19 to form a layer of fuel 38 (Fig. 2) of the desired thickness.
Air is supplied to the fuel from below, through outlets 21 leading to the edge of the dome-shaped room. Additional air is sent over the fuel layer 38 by means of the horseshoe pipe 25. It can be noted that the total surface area of the water walls of the combustion chamber 1 is considerably larger than in the case of boilers of ordinary construction and, in fact, it has been found that such a boiler could have dimensions equivalent to only half that of any existing boiler of equal power.
Another advantage, which is due to the use of the adjustable pipe 17, 17a for the fuel supply, is that the size of the fuel layer 38 can be adjusted so as to adapt to circumstances. For example, the boiler can be installed in order to supply an installation of a determined size, this installation can then be enlarged by the introduction of one or more new radiators, another bathtub, etc.
By means of the adjustable pipe 17, 17c, the mass of fuel burning in the furnace, initially adjusted to meet the needs of the installation, can be increased so that the boiler meets the needs of the enlarged installation.
It is advantageous to ensure that the hot burnt gases leaving the combustion chamber 1 travel as long as possible in contact with the rear surface of the rear wall 4 of the boiler. To this end, the outlet opening 7, near the top of the rear wall 4, opens into the upper end of a vertical pipe 39, included between said wall and a new wall 40 arranged parallel to the first and over the entire the length of it.
The space between these walls 4 and 40 (closed on the sides as can be understood) is subdivided into three channels by a pair of partitions 41 joining said wall: a central channel 39, in which the opening 7 of the chamber combustion 1 opens, and two side channels 42 (Fig. 3) communicating with the central channel 39 at their lower ends and opening at their upper end in a common outlet 43 con duisant a chimney or aLitre similar organ.
An ashtray 44, intended to collect the ashes, can, in certain cases, constitute the closure of the lower end of the spaces formed by the channels described above. It can be supported by a horizontal rim 2b having one or more openings 2c through which cleaning instruments can be introduced after removal of the ashtray 44.
One of the outer side walls of the subdivided space may include, as shown, the opening 45, normally closed by a cover 46, on which can be fixed a baking oven 47 (shown in place in fig. 1), surrounded by 'a channel 48 in which the hot gases are intended to circulate.
The outer casing of the oven has an opening corresponding to the opening 45, and a tray 49 (Fig. 1) is suitably disposed in the channel 48 so as to subdue the opening of the outer casing in part. lower inlet and an upper outlet. This plate 49 starts from the interior wall of the oven, passes through it, the open-read 45 and completely closes the side channel 42. It thus diverts the hot gases flowing through this channel. These gases then pass below, the tray, in the channel 48 of the furnace from where they are returned above the plate in the channel 42 of the boiler.
The furnace can be mounted on the boiler in any convenient way, preferably on one of the side walls thereof.
