Device for operating the knife of a mower.
An object of the present invention is to establish a device for actuating the knife of a mower which is both of a simple construction, of a robust structure and of efficient operation. A second desired object is the elimination of the gear train formed by numerous wheels as is usually found in existing mowers, the mutual friction of these gear wheels absorbing a large part of the energy supplied to the mower by the tractor. or the hitch pulling the mower. Another object of the invention is to have the possibility of adjusting the stroke of the knife.
Indeed, while the knife included in any mower is toothed and mobile, the comb, also toothed, is fixed and changed according to the nature of the pastures and other plants to be mown, the toothing being adapted accordingly. In addition, there is a great practical interest in modifying the race of the cou-team, in relation to the elements indicated, as experience has shown.
The object of the invention is a device for actuating the knife of a mower, characterized in that it comprises a cam with a sinuous double profile, controlling at least one roller integral with an oscillating lever which actuates, by the 'Via a first articulated joint, a control bar fixed to the knife by means of a second articulated joint.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention for actuating the knife of a mower, use.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a standard type mower equipped with the device, and
fig. 2 is a detailed view of the device, the control bar of the knife being broken.
In fig. 1 shows a mower of well-known type, with its two wheels 1 with grip ribs; its axle 2; its drawbar 3 (shown with a break); its shoe 4 connected to the frame of the machine and used to carry the comb 5, in and along which the knife 6 moves in a reciprocating motion; its return lever 7 of the comb and knife assembly in a practically vertical position; its handle 8 serving to adjust the height of said assembly, and the saddle 9 for the driver.
The number 10 indicates the device according to the invention, resting on an extension of the plate-shaped frame, 11 integral with the frame of the machine and equipped with a pinion 12, a Gall chain 13 drawn schematically in phantom and d a control gear 14 wedged on axle 2, which communicates its movement to it. The control device 10 attacks the cost 6 via the control bar 15.
In fig. 2, the number 16 denotes the. fork frame of the device. It carries a pivot 17 around which the lever 18 oscillates. The latter carries a roller 19 which follows the double acting profile. ur 20 of the cylindrical cam in two parts 21, forged or come for example in cast steel and entered. înée rotatably by the axis 22, itself actuated by the chain sprocket 12. On the oscillating lever 18 is fixed, for example, [by screwing, a rod 23. An adjusting ring 24 can slide along the rod 23, in order to adjust the stroke of the knife 6.
Said ring is held in the adjustment position by a stop screw 25. The ring 24 carries a first articulated joint 26 on the control bar 15 of the knife, this bar attacking the knife 6 by means of a second articulated joint 27 ( fig. 1).
The device according to the invention could be produced in other more or less equivalent ways. In particular, the cylindrical cam could be in one piece, the two parts of the profile being a. then located respectively on each side of the cam, each semi-profile driving a roller, therefore in all two rollers fixed on the oscillating lever.
On the other hand, instead of the described mode of controlling the Gayal chain cam and which is the form preferred by the inventor, the control of the cam could be carried out by a pair of straight toothed wheels, or else. by a pair. of toothed wheels of angle, or also pa, r eortle and pulley, with groove.
