Porte-mine.
Mechanical pencil. The present invention relates to a mechanical pencil comprising several reservoirs intended to contain mines of different colors, and a step-by-step advancement mechanism of the mine which is in the working position, a mechanism which comprises two axially movable clamps, one producing the advance of the mine and the other preventing it from downshifting.
The mechanical pencil according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises an axial channel, open laterally over part of its length, mounted to rotate to bring its lateral opening opposite a lateral opening of one. any of the reservoirs, as desired, this opening having a length at least equal to those.
mines that the device is intended to contain, the passage of a mine from a tank in the working position, in the axial channel, and vice versa, taking place by bringing the shaft of the mechanical pencil in the worm position tical, point down if it is a question of introducing a mine in the canal, point in the air if it is a question of extracting it, after having first taken the ballot box out, brought the lateral opening of said channel opposite the opening of the desired tank and, on the other hand,
brought the two clamps to the inoperative position.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the mechanical pencil according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a view in axial section along I-I of FIG. 2. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view along II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view along III-III of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a detail.
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view of a variant.
The mechanical pencil shown comprises a tubular body 1, screwed at one of its ends on a part 2, of generally frustoconical shape, constituting the tip of the mechanical pencil. The opposite end of the tubular part 1 is engaged inside a hollow head 3, capable of sliding axially a certain amount on the part 1. The head 3 is integral with a part 4, of cylindrical and which has, in its central region, an opening 5 which engages in friction with the split end 6 forming an elastic pin, of a rod 7 coaxial with the mechanical holder. The split end 6, like moreover the opening 5, has an asymmetrical prismatic shape, so that the head 3 can be mounted on the end 6 only in an angular position only.
The axial rod 7 is mounted to rotate in a cylindrical part 8 on which is crimped one end of a casing 9 having, in cross section, the shape of a cross, as can be clearly seen in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4. At its opposite end, the casing 9 is crimped onto another part 10. The parts 8 and 10 close the casing 9 at its two ends. The parts of the casing 9 which constitute the end of the branches of the cross are engaged in longitudinal internal grooves 11 made in the body 1.
The casing 9 is thus immobilized angularly, while being able to move axially in the body 1. A compression spring 12 acts on the part 10 by constantly stressing this part and, with it, the casing 9, to occupy the position shown in the drawing, for which the head 3 is in its extreme left position in FIG. 1. The spring 12 is supported on a threaded ring 13, screwed into the part of the part 2 constituting its large base.
Part 8 which, as can be seen in FIG. 4, also has the shape of a cross, is immobilized axially on the rod 7 thanks, on the one hand, to the crimping of the casing 9 and, on the other hand, to a ring 14, fixed to the rod 7 by a radial pin 15. Inside the part 8, there is disposed a small radial piston 16, biased by a res out of compression 17, to be applied against the rod 7.
The part of the piston 16 coming to cooperate with this rod is convex and cooperates with recesses 18, four in number, in the example shown: located at 90 from each other on the periphery of the rod 7, in the transverse plane passing through the axis of the pis ton 16. It is easy to see that the cooperation of the piston 16 and the recesses 18 makes it possible to bring the head 3 into four stable angular positions relative to the body 1. Each of these positions stable corresponds to the cooperation of the piston 16 with one of the recesses 18.
On the end '51 of the rod 7 is fixed a tube 19 constituting what will be called later an axial channel. The fixing is carried out by means of a pin 20. The axial channel .19 is split over part of its length, as can be seen at 21. The width of the slot 21 is sufficient to allow the passage of a mine such as that designated by 22 and shown in the drawing in the working position.
The end part 51 of the rod 7 ends with. an inclined plane 28 constituting one of the funds of the axial channel in question. This inclined plane 23 coincides in position with one of the ends of the lateral slot 21. When the members are in the position shown in FIG. 1, the opposite end of the slot 21 is located approximately opposite the bottom of the conical interior 24 of the part 10.
The right part in fig. 1 of part 10 is screwed onto a tubular part 25, having three radial slots, only one of which is visible at 26. This part 25 thus split constitutes a clamp of which two jaws are visible: at 27. Part 25 is arranged around the channel. axial 19. The jaws 27 are externally conical to cooperate with the inner surface 28, also conical, of a sleeve 29, provided to slide in a cylindrical chamber 30 of the part 2.
The jaws 27 cooperate with the lead 22 by passing through slots 31 of a tubular part 32, resiliently fixed to the right end (in FIG. 1) of the axial channel 19. It is understood that, under the action of the compression spring 12 acting as seen on part 10, the jaws 27 of the clamp are biased to the left in FIG. 1. Due to the conical shape of the surface 28, the jaws 27 are compressed radially and clamp the lead 22.
At the same time, these jaws 27 drive with them the sleeve 29, up to the position shown in the drawing, for which this sleeve abuts against the fixed ring 13. When pressing on the head 3 while moving to the right in fig. 1 the axial channel 19, against the action of the spring 12, the jaws 27 move, dragging with them the lead 22 until the sleeve 29 abuts against a shoulder 33 constituting the end of the chamber 30. From this moment, the jaws 27 alone continue their movement to the right and, by their own elasticity,
move away from the mine 22. Thus, by pressure on the head 3, the advance of the mine 22 is carried out by one step to the right in FIG. 1.
We go. now describe the means which ensure the immobilization of the mine 22 during the regression movement of the head 3 under the action of the spring 12, when you stop pressing on this head.
The means in question comprise a clamp 34, consisting of a tubular part 35 having three radial slots, only one of which is visible at. 36, to form three radial jaws 37 located at. the pointed end of the mechanical pencil. These jaws have a conical surface 38 cooperating with a mouth of the same shape made at the end of the part 2. The cylindrical part 35 is threaded and has, screwed onto it, a cylindrical head 39, inside the part. which acts a pre compression spring 40, resting on an internal shoulder of part 2.
The spring 40 constantly urges the clamp 34 to the left in FIG. 1, that is to say in the position for which the, on conical face 38 is in contact with the end, also conical, of the part 2, which causes the clamping of the jaws 37 on the lead 22. This tightening, which is a function of the force of the spring 40, is less forceful than that of the jaws 27, so that, as long as the jaws 27 move to the right, taking the mine with them 22, this lead slides between the jaws 37.
On the other hand, as soon as the pressure on the head 3 is stopped, after the jaws 27 have ceased to cooperate with the. mine 22, the jaws 37 oppose a retro grade movement of mine 22 which has just advanced. Thus, the immobilization of the mine 22 is ensured during the movement of the return to the initial position of the head 3 under the action of the spring 12.
To bring about the complete release of the lead 22, that is to say the release thimble this lead from both the jaws 27 and the jaws 37, it suffices to press fully on the head 3 until the right end, on the fi. 1, of the jaws 27 produce their movement to the right, after the sleeve 29 has abutted against the shoulder 33, until these jaws meet the part 39 and force it to move a certain amount towards the right. Under the action of this movement of the part 39, the conical part 38 of the jaws 37 ceases to cooperate with the part 2 and these jaws move away from the mine 22. From this moment, the mine is released from both the jaws. 27 and jaws 37, and it can slide freely inside the axial channel 19.
Suppose the organs are found. in the position shown in the drawing and that the head 3 is then fully pressed; as we have just described. If we bring the mechanical pencil point down, mine 22 purely and simply escapes from the mechanical pencil. If, on the contrary, we have the mechanical holder pointed in the air, the mine 22 slides in the -axial channel 19, meets the oblique wall 23 which drives it obliquely inside the chamber 41 of the cross formed by the envelope 9. This chamber 41 constitutes a mine reservoir, as seen in FIG. 2.
Of course, to pass from the axial channel 19 to the chamber 41, the mine passes through the lateral opening 21 of the channel 19. If now we turn the head 3 to bring it into another of the four stable angular positions, the 'lateral opening 21 is then located opposite another of the chambers 42, 43, 44 located inside the other branches of the cross (Fig. 2). Each of these chambers 42, 43, 44 constitutes a reservoir for mines of a determined color. Suppose that we bring the side opening 21 opposite 42.
If the head 3 is fully pressed and the mechanical pencil is placed with the point downwards, one of the mines which is in the reservoir 42 enters the axial channel 19 through its lateral slot 21, being guided in its movement by the. conical surface 24. The length of the slot 21 is naturally greater than that of the mines in question. Thus, one of the mines of the reservoir opposite which the slot 21 is located, automatically comes into the working position. It is then sufficient to stop pressing on the head 3 so that the mechanical pencil is ready for use.
To change color, we bring the mechanical pencil point in the air, we press fully on the head 3, which brings the lead into the respective tank, then we. turns the head to bring it to the desired angular position, corresponding to the lead color you want. This being done, the mechanical pencil is placed with the point downwards, the head 3 is pressed and the new lead comes into the working position.
To fill the chambers 41, 42, 43 and 44, it suffices to pull the head 8 to the left, which thus becomes detached from the split end 6 which retains it elastically, in order to have free access to these reservoirs. Additional reserves of mines are provided in the spaces 45 included between the branches of the cross and the casing 1, as seen in FIG. 2.
It will be noted that the axial channel 19 is extended, without .solution of continuity, at its end closest to the tip of the mechanical pencil, by the part 3'2 which constitutes a tubular guide surrounding the mine 22, which is in position working and which forces its sections to remain coaxial in the event of rupture of this mine. The end of this guide which is closest to the point is extended, without any solution of continuity, by the split tubular part 3.5 constituting the clamp preventing the mine from downshifting.
In the variant shown in FIG. 5, the mechanical pencil comprises four reservoirs 46, 47, 48 and 49, each having, in cross section, approximately the shape of a quarter circle. Four radial walls. 50 separate these reservoirs from one another. The axial channel 19 ', similar to 19 -in the example described, has a lateral opening 2'1' which can be brought in, facing one or the other of the reservoirs 46 ,, 47, 48, 49, as seen in fig. 5.
Thus, all the space available inside the mechanical pencil is used to constitute the mine reservoirs. Of course, in another variant, a number of reservoirs other than four could be provided.
