1 maehine to thread. The present invention relates to a threading machine operating as a parallel lathe.
This machine is of the type in which the longitudinal displacement of the tool holder and the thread pitch are adjusted by the obliqueness of the working face of an adjustable plate, and the threading tool is brought, after each working pass, at a greater depth of cut under the action of a cam driven in rotation successively by fractions of turns and acting on one of the ends of a two-armed saw blade, the other arm of which acts on the tool holder and moves the latter perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the workpiece, and it is characterized in that, in order to change the depth of cut of successive passes of the tool,
the active length of the lever arm acting on the tool holder perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the workpiece can be adjusted. Thanks to this arrangement, it is therefore possible to vary the depth of cut of each pass; in particular depending on the nature of the metal constituting the workpiece, while retaining a single cam to automatically control the advance of the tool from one pass to the next.
In the execution of the threading machine according to the invention, the cam controlling the automatic advance of the tool may be constituted by a disc provided at its periphery with bosses having different and progressive projections. The feed movement of the tool can be transmitted from this bos-sage disc to the tool holder, by means of a two-arm oscillating lever, one of the arms of which is in contact with the boss disc and the other arm of which acts on a roller carried by a part capable of being moved by sliding in a part of the tool holder per pendicular to. the axis of oscillation of the lever, so as to bring the ga let closer or further away from said axis of oscillation.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown, by way of non-limiting example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
In these drawings fig. 1 is a plan view of the machine; fig. 2 is a front view; fig. 3 is a side view; fi-. 4 is a detail view of the peripheral profile cam.
The machine comprises, for example, a frame 1, similar to a lathe with headstock and bench. A shaft 2 can rotate at different speeds and carries a clutch device comprising a fixed pulley 3 and an idle pulley 4; 5 is. the clutch lever which can bring the belt 6 from one pulley to the other. This lever is kept "on" by a pawl 7 and is driven by a spring 8 towards the "off" position. It carries a brake 9 which presses the fixed pulley 3 when the clutch is released.
The main shaft 2 drives, through the intermediary of a gear harness 10, 10; "lûb, 10, a shaft 11 parallel to the shaft 2. The shaft 11 can rotate at a certain number of speeds. different with respect to the shaft 2. Here we have assumed three speeds, ie 16, 32 and 64 revolutions of the shaft 2 for one revolution of the shaft 11. This shaft 11 carries a cam 12 with a peripheral profile indicated in FIG. 4, that is: 270 on a regular upward slope, 15 on a level, 60 on a downward slope and 15 on a level.
The cam 12 actuates a roller 13 fixed to a part 1.4 sliding perpendicular to the shaft 2 between two slides 15 forming part of the frame 1. The part 14 has a threaded rod 16 (fig. 1 and 2) at its center>, and a vertical key 14 'passing through the axis of the rod 16. This key is strictly parallel to the slides 15. A spring (not shown) ensures the adhesion of the roller 1.3 against the cam 12.
The threaded rod 16 is used to fix on the clamp 14, using a lever 16 ', plates of various shapes but in well-defined positions with respect to the key of the part 14. These plates 18 (rectangles , triangles, trapezoids, polygons) determine the thread pitch executed by the machine, by modifying the ratio between the number of turns of the shaft 2 in relation to the longitudinal feed of the cutting tool.
The plate 18 can be provided, for example, with two cross grooves 18 'which can fit one or the other on the key 14' depending on the position given to the plate 18.
Their action takes place. As follows: The threading tool 19 is fixed on a support 20 sliding perpendicularly to the axis of the shaft 2 between two guides fixed by two bolts 22 on a longitudinal slide 23 sliding parallel to the the shaft 2 between the guides of the frame I. The support 20 carries a slide 24 perpendicular to the shaft 2 and held between two micrometric screws 25 by a projecting square 26 fixed on the slide 24. These two screws adjust the advance of the tool against the object to be threaded and thereby <B> the </B> diameter of the thread. They are part of support 20.
The slide 24 carries at its end a roller 27 supported by a slide 28 adjustable vertically by the action of a knurled button 29 acting on a micrometric screw 30. The roller 27, under the action of a spring not shown , tends to rest strongly against the arm 31 of a lever with two pivoting arms around an axis 32 and carrying a second arm 33, longer than the arm 31 and provided with a roller 34 at its end.
The roller 34, under the thrust exerted by the roller 27, presses against a disc 35 provided with eight bosses 35 'on its circumference. These bosses, regularly distributed like the teeth of a gear, are of different and progressive projections so as to act progressively by the action of the rollers 34 and 27 on the tool 19.
The combination of two lever arms 31 and M as well as the action of the slide 28 acting on the roller 27 allows, by moving away or by bringing the roller 27 away from the axis 32, to amplify or decrease at will the total advance exerted by the action of the eight bosses of the disc 35 which are invariable. It is thus possible, by the simple operation of the roller 27, to perform the eight passes over a thread depth of 3, 4, 5 or 6 mm, the progress of each pass being proportionate to the total depth of the thread.
A complete turn of the screw 30 with the knurled knob 29 is equivalent to an advance of 1 /, 0 of a millimeter on the advance of the tool, which well characterizes the degree of sensitivity of the machine as regards precision.
The bosses 35 'can be arranged, as thicknesses and as a number, to thread either in three passes (and in this case one turn of the disc corresponds to three threads), or in four passes for two threads per turn, or in five, six , eight, nine, ten, twelve or fifteen passes. The proportional amplification or reduction action exerted by the roller 27 acts regardless of the number of wise bos of the disc.
The rotation of the disc 3.5 is effected by means of two sectors 36 fixed on one face of the cam 12 and acting on a lever 37 integral with a pawl 38 acting on a ratchet wheel 39 fixed on a shaft 40 on which is finds the disc 35. The action of one of the sectors 36 releases the roller 34 from a bos sage of the disc 35 at the moment when the roller 13 has finished traveling the <B> 270 '</B> of slope of the cam 12. The roller 34 is therefore located between two bosses when the roller 13 traverses the 60 of downward slope of the cam 12. At this moment, the action of the second sector 36 occurs which causes the disc 35 to rotate so as to place the roller 34 on the next boss.
The ratchet wheel 39 carries sideways sectors 41 which act on the pawl 7 and disengage the machine after the last pass of threading. There can therefore be one, two, three or four sectors depending on the number of threads made in one revolution of the disc 35.
The advancing and adjusting movements of the tool perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the objects to be threaded being established by the action of the disc 35, it remains to determine the action of the plates 18 fixed on the sliding part 14 One of the sides of the plate 18 is in contact with a roller 42 fixed on a vertical slide 43, adjustable by means of a knurled button 44 between the guides of the frame 45 fixed on the longitudinal slide 23 on which the door is fixed. -tool 20. The side of the plate 18 in contact with the roller 42 is not parallel to the slides 15; it is oblique with respect to the slides and the degree of oblivion is different for each of the four sides of the plate 18 (for example 6 mm, 12 mm, 18 mm, 24 mm in slope over 10 cm in length).
With the machine started, with the ratio of 16 to 1 between shafts 2 and 11, the cam will lift plate 18 after twelve turns of shaft 2 (rotation of 2.70 over 360 of cam 12) and l the tool will be moved in the longitudinal direction by a distance equal to the obliquity of the side or oblique plane of the plate 18 which acts on the roller 42. If this obliquity is 6 mm, the pitch will be 0.5 mm; if it is 12 mm, the pitch will be 1 mm; it will be 1.5 mm for the 18 mm slope and 2 mm for the 24 mm slope.
With the same plate 18, the obliquity of 6 mm will give pitches of 0g25 mm and 0.125 mm if one establishes, by means of the lob harness, the ratios 32 and 64 between the shafts 2 and 11. The same for the other three ribs of plate 18.
When the tool has passed through the first pass and the roller 13 has reached the top of the upward slope of the cam 12, the sector <B> M </B> acts and the roller 34 falls between two bosses of the disc 3 -5 releasing the tool from the object to be threaded. At this time, the roller 13 traverses the rapid downward slope of the cam 12, the plate 18 descends and the tool returns to its starting point. A new action of the second sector 36 puts the roller 34 on the next boss, more protruding than the previous one, and the tool penetrates more; the operation begins again, until the moment when the threading is finished, the sector 41, acting on the pawl 7, stops the machine.
To adjust the longitudinal stroke of the tool, the roller 13 is placed at the highest part of the cam 12, and the knurled button 44 is actuated which, by raising the roller 42 along the oblique side of the plate 18, moves the slide 23 to the left of FIG. 2 and thus determines the thread plane furthest to the right with respect to the shaft 2. To adjust the opposite plane, the most to the left with respect to the shaft 2, which constitutes the starting plane of the thread, we act on the soft button 46 actuating the micrometric screw 47, integral with the longitudinal slide 23 by means of the support 48 which acts by abutment on the frame I. A washer 49 makes it possible to block the screw 47, once the adjustment has been made.
The speed of rotation is that accepted as the circumferential speed of the cutting tool for threaded metal. It is constant, and returning the tool to its point of attack requires only a third of the time spent on threading. The precision in the longitudinal limit of the tool's stroke makes it possible to produce very delicate and very precise threads in series.
The use of the oblique planes of the plate 18 to determine the pitch makes it possible to achieve all the pitches. Knowing, for example, that the oblique plane acts in twelve turns of the main shaft, it suffices, for a pitch to be produced, to take the linear length of twelve threads and to give the oblique plane, over a length of 10 cm, an obliquity equal to this linear length. Thus, by giving a slope of 2 inches by 10 cm, we obtain, by playing the three ratios 16, 32, 64 between shafts 2 and 11, the pitches of 6, 12 and 24 threads per inch. By giving a slope of 1.5 inches, we obtain the pitches of 8 to 16 threads per inch. By means of two trapezoidal plates 18, all Witworth pitches between 4 and 24 threads per inch are obtained.
For special pitches, the plate 18 can be replaced by an alidade with a graduated circular sector with a vernier, pivoting around an axis and adjustable by micrometric screws; we can thus determine all the angles and thereby all the steps.
It is understood that the above figures indicating ratios of speeds, skews, etc. have been given for information only.
The machine can work as my independent china or as an additive to another machine. Threading at the cutting speed of a tool allows threads to be made on parts rotating on machines for other operations, then there is no reversal in the movement of the tool. rotation. In fact, the time spent in the line saves labor. It is also possible, with an appropriate tool, to perform two threads of the same pitch of different diameters at the same time.
By using curved friction planes instead of straight planes, threads can be made up and down.
With broken shots, we can obtain different pitches following each other in the same operation.
To perform the steps to the left, simply rotate the main shaft in reverse, turn the face of the cam as well as that of the disc and reverse the cutting tool.
The machine can be executed with a hollow shaft for threading tubes, cylinders, etc.
In the case of parts to be threaded requiring to be held by their two ends, a sliding tailstock or any other member for holding these parts can be provided.
