Le profil de la came 21 comprend, par exemple, sur un angle de 240 , une partie en hélice correspondant au travail de l'outil; sur un angle de 10 un palier produisant un arrêt du porte-outil pendant lequel a lieu le déga gement de l'outil 20; sur un angle de 100 une partie en hélice dont l'inclinaison est inverse de celle de la précédente, correspon dant au retour du porte-outil sous l'action du ressort 24;
Method for controlling the movements of a member movable in translation by means of a rotary cam and machine for implementing this method. The present invention relates to a method for controlling the movements of a movable member in translation by means of a rotary cam and a machine for implementing this method.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that rectilinear displacements are communicated to said movable member according to a sinusoidal law of variable amplitude, and in that the part of the sinusoid according to which is chosen for the same sinusoidal law the active movements of the mobile organ are carried out.
The machine according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a cam having two eccentrics of the same eccentricity nested in one. the other and mounted on a common rotation shaft, these eccentrics possibly having different relative positions with each other and with respect to the shaft, the external eccentric acting through its periphery on the movable member following an arc whose position and length are adjustable, such that by limiting the rotation of the cam to an arc corresponding to the determined working angle, the movable member undergoes rectilinear displacements according to a sinusoidal law of variable amplitude, the 'internal eccentric allowing to choose, for the same sinusoidal law,
the part of the sinusoid along which the active displacements of the movable member take place and, consequently, the advance of this controlled member. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine according to the invention.

Fig. 19 is a side view in section (along XIX-XIX of Fig. 12) of the drive spindle; Fig. 20 is an elevational view of a variant of the machine comprising a cam as shown in FIGS. 9 to 11.
In fig. 1, the variable cam comprises a circular central body a of radius B and center 0, fixed on a shaft b whose axis passes through 0. On the body a is mounted a first eccentric ring c whose outer contour is a circumference of radius B, and center 0, and which has a bore of radius B and center 0 allowing it to rotate around body a.
On the ring c is mounted a second eccentric d whose outer circumference is a circumference with radius B2 and center Oz (fig. 2) and which carries a bore with radius B and center Q. The eccentric d is capable of rotating around the eccentric c, the center D of its bore being in permanent coincidence with the center 0, of the outer contour of the eccentric c.
The offset 02 0 of the eccentric d is equal to the offset 0,0 of the eccentric c, so that there is one position and only one for which 02 coincides with 0, the outer contour of the eccentric d then being centered on the shaft a and the cam being a circle of radius B2 concentric with this shaft. This position is that shown in FIG. 1.
On the eccentric d are plotted gradations <I> A, B, </I> C ... separated for example by angular intervals of 5, and on the eccentric c is provided a reading mark T which , in the neutral position defined above where the contour of the ring d is concentric with the axis of rotation of the shaft b, is located opposite the graduation A.
If we give the eccentric <I> d </I> a wedging angle 99 with respect to the eccentric c (fig. 3), the center O; moves on a circumference with center 0, and radius <I> r = 0.0 </I> and comes in 0'2.
The shape which the outer contour of the cam then takes with respect to two rectangular axes Ox, 0y of FIG. 3 can be defined with the aid of fig. 4. Let, in this last figure, a point P moving on the outer circumference of the eccentric d.
The distance 00'2 is small compared to 0'2P (B2). If we lower the perpendicular 0'2H on OP, assuming as an approximation that P0'2 <I> = PH </I> and setting 00'2 = d, we have: <I> OH <B> = </B> </I> ô cos <I> a, </I> from which we get: <I> OP = </I> P2 + ô cos <I> a. </I> The path of the point P during the rotation of the cam around the center 0 is therefore a curve with sinusoidal variation.
If it is assumed that the cam rotates, for example, in front of a reproducing roller g forced to move in the direction 0-0, in FIG. 1, when the cam rotates in the direction of arrow f, the movements of the roller 9 are read on a sinusoid as shown in FIG. 5, in the direction indicated by the arrow <I> f ,, the </I> arrow f :; indicating the positive direction of the angles.
The length 00'2 <I> = 8 </I> which defines the maximum amplitude of these displacements depends on the number of divisions <I> A, B. </I> C ... ame born above the mark T, that is to say the angle cp of fig. 3. The value of ô compared to the radius r of eccentricity is given by the relation:

The adjustment of the position of the external eccentric d on the eccentric c therefore makes it possible to give the reproducing roller y displacements of sinusoidal abscissas with a coefficient (d cos a), d being variable at will between predetermined limits.
It is thus possible to establish, with regard to these displacements of the ga <I> let g, </I> for the various adjustment points A, B, C, etc., a bundle of curves as shown in FIG. 6.
On the other hand, on the internal eccentric c are also drawn angular graduations 0, 5, 10 ... etc., opposite which is provided a reading mark <I> T '</I> on the body <I> a. </I> In the neutral position shown in fig. 1, the mark T 'is in front of the 0 graduation. We can see that if we give the eccentric c relative to the body to a certain setting angle by rotating it on the latter (fig. 7 ), the sinusoidal curve produced by the previous adjustment defined by the graduations <I> A, B, C ... </I> etc. is not deformed, but the origin of the movements of the roller g is displaced.
For example, on a curve such as shown in FIG. 8, determined by a certain setting of the external eccentric d, an angular adjustment of the eccentric c corresponding to a setting angle of 25 defines a position S for the origin of the working arc of the roller.
Ultimately, if we assume that we have for the cam a working arc P of given amplitude (fig. 7), this arc can be transformed by the double adjustment described above into a rectilinear displacement of the roller g following a variable law, the first setting <I> A, B, C, D ... </I> etc., allowing this law to be given the general form <I> 8 </I> cos <I> a </I> where ÔS varies as a function of said adjustment, while the second adjustment allows you to choose at will on the displacement curve thus determined the origin of the working arc of the roller and, consequently , to vary the speed of the latter.
In all cases, whatever the displacement curve produced by the first adjustment and whatever the fraction of this curve actually brought into play by the second adjustment, the movement of the roller takes place according to a decreasing progression over the entire length. extent of the working arc of the cam.
Figs. 9 to 11 show an embodiment of the cam thus designed. In these figures, we find in a the central body of the cam fixed on a shaft b by means of a key h, in c the eccentric ring mounted on the body a and in d the outer eccentric ring mounted on the ring vs. As explained above, the eccentrics <I> c and d </I> are identical, so that in the neutral position shown in fig. 9, the circumference of the crown d has its center on the axis of rotation of the shaft b. The reproductive organ which, in the preceding explanations, was materialized by a roller, is here constituted by a -pièce i pivotally mounted on a jet shaft which follows the contours of the crown d.
The working line of this part is formed by the alignment of the centers of the pivot jet of the shaft b.
The angular position of the ring c relative to the body a is capable of being adjusted by a threaded sector 1c fixed to the body <I> a </I> and by a screw. endless <I> l </I> secured in two bearings <I> m </I> and <I> m. '</I> integral with the ring c. The relative positions of c and a are marked here in figures, for a sector of 95, on a graduation drawn on the ring c, by means of a mark T ′ drawn on the body a. Each division of this graduation corresponds, for example, to a rotation angle of 5.
The angular position of the crown d with respect to the ring c can be adjusted by a threaded sector n fixed to the ring c and by a worm o secured in two bearings <I> p </ I > and <I> p '</I> integral with the crown <I> d. </I> The relative positions of <I> d </I> and of c are identified for example by letters, for a sector of 60, on a graduation traced on the crown d, by means of a father T traced on the ring c. The interval between two consecutive letters of the graduation corresponds, for example, to a rotation angle of 5.
A stopper q fixed on the body a and coming into contact with a part r fixed to the frame determines the starting position of the cam at the start of each operation.
Fig. 10 shows the effect produced in the working arc brought into contact with the part i, by the double angular displacement of the ring c and of the crown d. The outer line of the crown d grows in relation to the circumferential line of rotation represented by the dotted line d ', the gap between the two lines representing the advance movement imparted to the part i by the rotation of the cam in direction of arrow f.
In the embodiment of the tool threading machine (fig. 12 and 13), 1 designates the frame of the machine comprising a work bench 2 fixed in a rectilinear groove 3 of the frame. This bench carries two tailstocks 4 and 5 capable of sliding longitudinally on the bench 2, on which they are held in position by blocking bolts 6, and which support the pieces to be threaded through a hollow spindle 7 to large diameter passage, carrying a dragging plate 8 (fig. 19).
On the spindle 7 is wedged a toothed wheel 9 connected by a chain 10 to a pinion 11 keyed on the shaft 12 of a driving wheel 13. The latter receives a rotational movement from an electric motor 14 , by means of a speed variator 15 and a belt 16.
Parallel to the bed 2 and to the spindle 7 is mounted a sliding shaft 17 on which is secured a tilting support 18 carrying a tool holder 19 on which the tool 20 is secured (fig. 12 and 16). The longitudinal movement of the tool is controlled by a removable cam 21 of the "bell" type, wedged on a shaft 22 and which acts on a roller 23 mounted at the end of the shaft 17, the roller 23 being held in position. contact with the cam 21 by the traction of a spring 24 connected to the shaft 17.
The profile of the cam 21 comprises, for example, on an angle of 240, a helical part corresponding to the work of the tool; on an angle of 10 a bearing producing a stop of the tool holder during which the disengagement of the tool 20 takes place; on an angle of 100 a helical part the inclination of which is the opposite of that of the preceding one, corresponding to the return of the tool holder under the action of the spring 24;
and at an angle of 10, a second plateau producing a new stop of the tool holder during which the tool 20 plunges by the value of the next pass. The shaft 22 carrying the cam 21 is driven in rotation, from a shaft 25 carrying a chain wheel 26 controlled by the chain 10 which connects the driving wheel 13 to the spindle 7, via a gear train similar to that of a parallel revolution, which makes it possible to obtain the ratio which must exist between the speed of the spindle and that of the shaft 22,
according to the pitch of the thread and the dimensions of the cam 21. The latter, which thus represents the lead screw of the machine, can be changed depending on the nature of the thread and its length.
The transverse advance movement of the tool is controlled by a variable cam 7 formed as described with reference 22 in FIGS. 9 to 12. This cam, keyed on a drive shaft 28 (corresponding to the shaft b of the latter figures) acts on a part 29 articulated by a pin 30 on a sleeve 31 which slides longitudinally on a rod 32 provided with 'a key 33. The rod 32 is guided, on the other hand, in a sleeve 34 integral with the tool holder 19.
A screw 35 controlled by a knurled knob 36 makes it possible to adjust the position of the tool holder relative to the part 29 and, consequently, the depth of the tool 20.
The retraction of the tool, at the end of the pass, is controlled by a cam 37 wedged on the shaft 22. For this purpose, the cam 37 acts, by the intermediary of a lever with two arms 38 fixed on a shaft 39 and subjected to a spring 40 which tends to keep one of its arms in contact with the cam 37, on a slide 41 fitted with a dovetail to the end of the rod 32 connected to the part 29 (fig. . 12, 14 and 15). This slide 41 is capable of sliding transversely in the rod 32 and comprises a ramp 41a which is in contact with the axis 30 of the part 29.
At the end of each longitudinal pass of the tool 20, the cam 37, acting on the lever 38, moves the slide 12 and the ramp of the latter sliding on the axis 30 causes the rod 32 to descend into the socket 31 , thus determining the retraction of tool 20. Cam 37 puts the tool back in place, by a reverse process, at the moment when it must restart its action for the next pass.
The rotation of the variable cam 27, for the execution of a number of passes fixed in advance depending on the work to be done, is ensured using the following mechanism: The shaft 22 already mentioned -and on which the cams 21 and 37 are already fixed carries a third cam 42 which acts, by the intermediary of a lever with two arms 43 mounted on a pin 44 (fig. 12), on a pawl 45 articulated on an axis 46 at the end of said lever. This pawl 45 (fig. 12, 17 and 18) drives a ratchet wheel 47 wedged on a shaft 48 which carries, on the other hand, a pinion 49 meshing with a toothed wheel 50 fixed on the shaft 28 of the variable cam. 27.
A second pawl 51, the axis 52 of which is mounted on the frame, stops the impulse communicated by the pawl 45. A spring 53, acting through the intermediary of a cable 54 on an integral drum 55. of the ratchet wheel 47, drives the assembly of the control mechanism of the variable cam 27 in a direction opposite to the direction of the rotation imparted by the pawl 45, when the pawls are no longer in engagement with the ratchet wheel 47 A finger 56, provided on the wheel 47 and to which corresponds a stop 57 fixed to the frame, stops the action of the spring 53 and determines the starting position of the variable cam 27 relative to the part 29.
The adjustment of the number of passes is obtained by means of the following device (fig. 12, 17 and 18): The ratchet wheel 47 is pierced with a series of holes 47a arranged in a circumference concentric with the shaft 48 and separated from each other by intervals corresponding respectively to two teeth of said wheel. On the shaft 48 is mounted a rotary drum 58 provided with a radial arm 59 which carries a spring finger 60 controlled by a button 61 and able to penetrate into any one of the holes 47a. The positions determined by these holes correspond to numbers of passes varying by 2, for example, from 6 to 60. A suitably graduated dial on a washer 58a fixed to the shaft 48 guides the adjustment operation.
The drum 58 comprises, on the other hand, a second radial arm 62 carrying a finger 63, the circumferential position of which is thus determined by that of the finger 60 engaged in one of the holes of the ratchet wheel 47. On the path of this finger 63 is arranged a flat cam 64 wedged on the axis 52 carrying the pawl 51. When the finger 63, under the impulse communicated by the pawl 45 to the ratchet wheel 47 and consequently to the drum 58 , meets the cam 64, it angularly displaces the latter and thus forces the pawl 51 to pivot.
The cam 64 carries, on the other hand, a finger 65 which, during the pivoting of this cam, acts on a finger 66 fixed to the end of a lever 67 pivoting about an axis 68 fixed to the frame. The lever 67 is normally kept raised by a spring 69 and it laterally carries a projection 67a provided with a notch 67b in which (when the machine is running) is engaged a finger 70 fixed to the end of a two-way lever. arm 71 pivoting on an axis 72. This lever 71 controls, by means of a ring 73, a double clutch cone 74 disposed between a cone 75 integral with the drive wheel 13 and a cone 76 fixed to the frame.
In the position of engagement of the finger 70 in the notch 67b, the cone 74 is kept in contact with the cone 75 of the driving wheel against the action of a powerful res out 77 attached to the frame. When the lever 67 is lowered by the action of the finger 65 of the cam 64 on the finger 66, the finger 70 is released from the notch 67b and the lever 71, driven by the spring 77, releases the cone 74 from its contact with the cone 75 and brings it into contact with the fixed cone 76. The machine stops instantly. At this moment, the angular position of the variable cam 27 is determined by the position assigned to the finger 63 by the choice of the number of passes.
This position itself determines with precision, by means of the part 29, the total diametral feed of the tool 20.
The return of the variable cam 27 to its starting point, when the machine is stopped, is obtained as follows: The projection 67a carried by the lever 67 is present, above the notch 67b; a <B> 67th </B> ramp on which the finger 70 engages when it is released from the notch <I> 67b, </I> so that the lever 67 is still lowered.
The finger 66 provided at the end of this lever then acts on two lugs 78 and 79 fixed respectively on the pawls 45 and 51 and releases these from the ratchet wheel 47, thus allowing the spring 53 to drive all the mechanism, which stops, as was indicated above, when the finger 56 arrives against the stop 57.
The various components are put back in place by means of a manually operated lever 80 fixed on the axis of the lever 71. Under the action of this hand lever, the lever 71 is returned to the position where the finger 70 engages in the notch 67b of the lever 67 which rises under the action of the spring 69. In this movement, the finger 66 releases the pawls 45 and 51 which resume their function.
The variable cam included in the machine described finds a particularly interesting application in the control of the transverse feed movements of the tool of parallel lathes and more especially of machines for threading the tool, the working arc of the cam then being limited to the sector of this cam, the action of which is likely to result in a positive advance.
The sine-wave law, according to which the rotation of the cam is transmitted to the advance movement of the tool, lends itself in fact - by an easy to mechanically achieve combination of this rotation with the longitudinal movement of the tool - to obtaining successive passes of decreasing depths, as required by a rational execution of the work, while the possible variation of the starting point of the working arc of the cam for a given adjustment of the external profile of the latter allows you to modify at will the ratio between the depth of the first passes' (roughing) and that of the last passes (finishing).
By combining the mechanisms for controlling the rotation of the cam and for the longitudinal displacement of the tool with a mechanism, it is possible to vary between given limits the number of passes in which the total advance of the machine must be made. tool, it is then possible, by simple adjustments, to adapt this number of passes, for the same thread pitch, to the nature of the metal to be machined, by choosing, according to the work requirements, a depth relative more or less reduced for the last passes.
It will be understood that in the use of the machine described, it will be easy to determine in advance the graduations at which the double adjustment of the variable cam 27 will have to be carried out in order to achieve the different thread pitches likely to be obtained on the my china, in different numbers of passes and with final pass depths more or less reduced compared to the initial passes. The data relating to this double setting can then be gathered on a table immediately providing the operator with all the information necessary for each particular case.
The relative positions of the tailstock 4 and 5 with respect to the field of action of the tool 20 allow the latter to work at the desired point along the length of the part to be threaded. In most cases, the spindle 7 acts as a drive member via its plate 8. FIG. 20 is an elevational view of an embodiment of the machine described above with a bed of great length for working long pieces.
