Description
Process for the preparation of an ogyaryl sulfone. The present patent relates to a process for the production of an oxyarylsulphon, characterized in that 4-chloronaplithyl-1-phenylsulphone is heated with an alkaline agent.
The 4-oxynaphthyl-1-phenylsulfone obtained in this way is a colorless body with a melting point of 107 C. It is said to be used as an intermediate in the manufacture of dyes, medicinal products, textile and tanning aids and synthetic resins.
<I> Example: </I> 40 parts of 4-chloronaphthyl-1-phenylsulfone are heated with 40 parts of caustic potash in about 400 parts of water in an autoclave at about 200 ° C. for 10 hours. The result is a solution which, when acidified, gives 4-oxynaphthyl-1-phenylsulfone with a melting point of <B> 107 '</B> C.
The 4-chloronaphthyl-l-phenylsulfone used as the starting body can be prepared, for example, by reacting diazobenzene chloride with 4-chloro-l-thionaphthol according to Ziegler (reports from the German Chemical Society, Volume 23, page 2469) and oxidizing the thus obtained thioether with hydrogen peroxide.
