La fig. 1 est une section transversale de l'une de ces formes d'exécution, cette section passant par la ligne 1-1 de la fig. 2, c'est- à-dire par un plan coupant à angle droit les axes de rotation des aubes et de la clé; la fig. 2 en est une section suivant la ligne 2-2 de la fig. 1; la fig. 3 est une section semblable à la, fi--. 2, mais d'une autre forme d'exécution; la fig. 4 est une section semblable à la fig. 1, mais d'une autre forme d'exécution, la section étant faite suivant la ligne 4-4 de la fig. 5;

11 convient de ménager dans l'encoche JZ pour la clé des encoches J5 et JB reliées res pectivement aux parties de la chambre à î aube s sur les deux côtés de la clé;

In some cases, the two notches for the key could be exactly or approximately the same size, but then the key will have a single paddle notch extending from its periphery to a point beyond its axis of rotation. .
Two pressure notches D 'and D6 are provided in the wall of the notch D1 for the. key and communicate by passages D 'respectively with the inlet and outlet openings F and E, so as to be subjected to the pressure prevailing at these openings, one of these notches being located at the point diametrically opposite to the 'place where the key is subjected Ù, the pressure prevailing in the high pressure part of the vane chamber, the other being located at the point diametrically opposite to the low pressure section of the vane chamber.
While the machine is working, the rotary key D is forced by the return C, C1 to turn at the same speed as the rotor B, but in the opposite direction and the arrangement is such that, each time a blade B1 approaches the part of the vane chamber that the key D passes through, one or the other of the notches DS comes into a position where it can receive the vane and thus allow it to pass through the key, as it is shown in fig. 1.
It will be seen that the key constantly forms a tight seal with the notches D1 and D2 and that, moreover, each time a blade enters one of the notches Dg, the displaced fluid will flow out through the opening. outlet E and that likewise each time a vane leaves the notch D3, the space left free in the notch by the vane will be filled by the fluid which flows in this space from the inlet opening F .
Thus, when the vanes rotate around the chamber A ', not only do they continuously suck fluid into this chamber through the inlet opening F to evacuate it through the outlet opening E, but each time that a paddle slot D3 is in communication with the inlet opening F, a quantity of fluid equal to the volume of the blade B 'will be sucked into the notch, while, each time a notch vane is in communication with the outlet opening E, a similar amount of fluid will be forced out of the notch towards the outlet opening.
It will be seen that, during work, the pressure in the notches D 'and Ds partially or totally counterbalances the radical forces acting on the key D under the action of the pressures prevailing in the vane chamber B.
In the machine shown in FIG. 3, the construction is generally similar to that of Figs. 1 and 2, except that two paddle chambers, two sets of vanes and two keys are provided.
Thus, the machine comprises a casing A containing two chambers with annular vanes B3, B4, arranged coaxially, but displaced axially with respect to one another and in which two pairs of vanes B ', B6 respectively rotate, projecting respectively on two opposite faces of a disk-shaped rotor B7 mounted on an axis Be. In this construction, the axis Bg is connected by a reference C3,
C4 with an axis C 'carrying two rotary keys D4 each associated with one of the vane chambers and provided with two notches D' intended to receive vanes and similar to the notches D3 of the machine shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
In this embodiment, the arrangement of each key and the way in which it co-operates with the vanes B 'or B6 in the vane chamber with which it is associated are exactly similar to those of the corresponding parts of the form of execution shown in fig. 1 and 2 and, in fact, this embodiment represents a double form of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2.
The machine shown in fig. 4 and 5 comprises a casing G in which is formed an annular vane chamber G ,, whose inner and outer walls and an end wall are formed by parts of the casing, while the other pa king of end is formed by the circumferential part of one face of a disc-shaped rotor H carrying diametrically opposed blades H 'and forming projections parallel to the axis, which pass through the blade chamber as shown the drawing.
The rotor H is mounted on an axis HZ which is connected by a reference H3, H4, H '<I> to </I> an are J, which is thus obliged to rotate in the same direction as the axis H \ and which carries a rotary key Jl through the vane chamber between inlet and outlet line openings K, Kl and constantly forms a tight seal, not only with a notch J 'having. the shape of a part of a cylinder and being formed in the inner wall or core of the vane chamber to receive the key, but also with a notch .73 having the.
form part of a cylinder and formed for the same purpose in the outer wall of the chamber. blades. The rotary key Jl is for view of two diametrically opposed notches J 'and intended to receive the vanes, each of them coming during the rotation of the vanes Hl around the vane chamber GZ as a result of the rotation of the key Jl in position to receive one of the blades Hl, when the latter reaches the. part of the. vane chamber through which the key passes, and thus allowing the vane to pass through the key as shown in fig. 4.
It will be seen that in this construction also the key constantly forms a tight seal with the inner and outer walls of the vane chamber and that, each time a vane H 'enters a notch with vanes J', the fluid moved by the vane will flow from this notch through the outlet opening Ki, while each time a vane H 'leaves the vane notch J4, the space left free in the notch by the The vane will be filled with fluid flowing in the notch from then the inlet opening K.
Thus, not only is fluid constantly sucked through the inlet opening K into the annular chamber and discharged through the outlet opening K1 by the vanes, as they rotate around the vane chamber, but each once a notch J 'communicates with the inlet opening, a volume of fluid equal to the volume of a blade H1 is drawn into the notch, a corresponding volume of fluid being discharged from the notch towards the opening of exit each time the notch communicates with the latter.
It is advisable to provide in the notch JZ for the key notches J5 and JB connected respectively to the parts of the blade chamber s on both sides of the key;
they have the same function as the shape bed notches DJ and D shown in fig. 1 and 2.
In the machine shown in fig. 6 and 7, the arrangement is generally similar to that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, except that the rotary key is ring shaped. This machine comprises a casing L in which is formed an annular vane chamber Ll around which revolve vanes LZ projecting on one of the faces of a disc-shaped rotor L3 mounted on an axis L4. The L4 axis is connected by an L5 reference,
Lg to an axis t11 carrying a member Jfl having the shape of a disc, on one face of which protrudes a rotary key MZ of annular shape, housed and rotating in a notch .113 which has the shape of a part of a ring and which is formed in the outer wall of the vane chamber, this key also engaging in a notch 1i 'which has the shape of a part of a cylinder and which is provided in the inner wall of the chamber paddle steamer.
The key is. provided with two M5 gaps constituting notches intended for. let the dawn pass; during the rotation of the key and the rotor, each of these notches comes into a position allowing a vane to pass through the key as shown in fig. 6.
The portion L'r of the outer circumference of the vane chamber, which is in the key, is increased in diameter as shown (otherwise formed), to allow fluid to flow freely around each dawn as it travels through this part.
The key 11Zï crosses the vane chamber between the inlet and outlet openings N, Nl, and in this form also we will see that each blade, when it enters through one of the gaps llP, will flow back towards the outlet opening. Nl a quantity of liquid equal to the volume of the vane, whereas, when each vane exits through a gap N ', a similar quantity of liquid will be sucked at the inlet opening N.
Pressure notches M ', & P communicating respectively with the outlet and inlet openings are provided with the same function as the notches D', <I> D '</I> shown in fig. 1 and 2.
The machine shown in fig. 8 and 9 is in fact a double form of that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and comprises two vane chambers A1 separated by a wall A; # and two rotors B carrying vanes B1 and mounted on a single axis B2. A single rotary key D ', actuated by a reference C, C' from the axis B2, is of the same general shape as the key D, but it is longer and cooperates with the two rotors.
From the point of view of construction and operation, the machine shown in fi-. 10 and 11 is similar to that which is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, except that the inlet opening Fi opens into the inner periphery of the paddle chamber A1, so that the centrifugal force does not oppose the entry of the liquid. If desired, the outlet opening E1 can be similarly arranged, as shown, but it is preferable to place it at the outer periphery, so that the centrifugal force aids the outflow. .
The machine shown in fig. 12 and 13 comprises an envelope A3 containing two annular vane chambers A4 communicating with inlet and outlet openings F1, El common and each associated with a rotor B1 having two vanes B11.
A single rotary key Dg, carrying two notches Da to receive the vanes, engages in notches formed in the inner walls or cores of the two chambers A '. The rotors B1 are connected by a reference C6, C ', so that they rotate at the same speed, but in opposite directions: in addition, a reference C', C is provided to turn the key.
The arrangement is such that a vane of each rotor can be located at the same time in a vane notch, the vanes entering and leaving the notch one after the other, as shown in fig. 13.
In the machine shown in fig. 14 and 15, the construction is generally similar to that of FIGS. 1 and 2, except that the face of the rotor B opposite the vane chamber is provided with a series of pressure notches B'2 each communicating by a step B'3 with the part of the face opposite side of the rotor which is axially aligned with it.
Thus, the pressure in each notch B12 exerts on the rotor an axial force tending to balance the axial force exerted on it by the pressure prevailing in the corresponding region of the vane chamber, so that the tendency of the rotor to tilt under the effect of different pressures acting on different parts of its face in the vane chamber will be counterbalanced.
In the machine shown in fig. 16 and 17, the rotor comprises a disc 0 having a rim <B> 0 '</B> on which project four vanes 02, the ends of which are united and preferably form part of a ring 03. A single rotary key P actuated by a return L ', <I> LE </I> crosses the vane chamber between the inlet and outlet openings Pl, P2 and carries four vane notches P3, P4, P' and P '.
In this machine, the vane chamber has sealing surfaces for the fluid cooperating respectively with the re edge <B> 0 '</B> and the ring 03 and each of these surfaces is formed so that the area 04, which engages the outer surface of the rim Ol or the ring 03 is approximately equal to the area 0 ', which engages the inner surface of the flange or the ring. In this way, one tends to obtain a reduction in the unbalanced radial forces acting on the rotor.
In addition, the spaces O '', O 'and <B> 0' </B> are all in communication with each other, through passages O, O1 ", so that the rotor is not subjected to unbalanced long pressures.
The machine shown in fig. 18 com takes a casing A provided with a single annular vane chamber _, 1 'having two or more inlet openings F and two outlet openings E. A rotor has four vanes h "which rotate around the vane chamber A rotary wrench D with two pairs of paddle slots D 'sits between each adjacent pair of inlet and outlet openings E, F. The keys rotate at the same speed as the rotor, but in the opposite direction. .
With this arrangement, it will be seen that the radial forces acting on the rotor by the effect of pressure in the vane chamber balance each other out.
The machine shown in fig. 19 to 23 comprises a casing Q supporting bearings in which passes a main axis <I> Q '</I> connected by a reference <I> Q \ </I> to an axis Q' ;. On the axis Q 'is mounted a disc-shaped part Q' having a flange Q ', which protrudes. parallel to the axis and at the end of which an inner rim Q <B> '</B> is provided.
The rim Q <B> '</B> constitutes an end wall of an annular vane chamber R "and carries two slots as shown in fig. 19, 21 and 22 through which pass and can slide ser vanes R formed on a rotor R 'which thus rotates with the part Q', but can slide ser axially relative to the latter. The outer pa king of the vane chamber is constituted by a part of the casing Q, tan say that its inner wall and its other end wall are constituted by a part S mounted so as to slide, but not to rotate, in the casing Q and carrying bearings which support the rotor R '.
Formed (or mounted) on the axis Q3, a rotary key S 'engages in notches R', R 'having the shape of a part of a cylinder and provided respectively in the part of the casing Q constituting the outer wall of the annular vane chamber and in the part of the part <B> S </B> constituting the inner wall, higher of the vane chamber, as can be seen in a more particular way in FIGS. 20 and 23.
The inlet and outlet openings T, 1 <B> "</B> are formed in the casing, so as to communicate with the annular vane chamber respectively on both sides of the rotary key S2.
The rotary key S 'is provided with two paddle notches S "and the arrangement is such that the key constantly passes through the paddle chamber and that one or the other of the paddle slots comes, when necessary, in. position to allow each blade to pass through the key, as in the shape shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The notch R 'made for the key in room S extends to the left of the blade chamber ( fig. 19) and a suitably shaped part of a part Q7 constituting a part of the casing extends inside this elongation, with which it forms a tight seal for the fluid.
The part S can carry on its low pressure side a cylinder S3 in which there is a piston Q 'carried by an extension of the axis Q', the chamber of the cylinder S ';, located to the right of the piston Q' , communicating with the vane chamber, so that the pressure existing therein counterbalances the thrust on the rim Q "constituting an end wall of the vane chamber.
Fig. 19 shows the parts in the maximum capacity position. When the capacity is to be reduced, the part S and with it the rotor R 'carrying the vanes are moved to the right. It will then be seen that the axial distance between the end wall of the vane chamber formed by the part S and the end wall formed by the flange Qe is reduced, the effective length of the vanes R being similarly reduced. by the retreat of these vanes which enter more deeply into the slots of the rim Q ",
so that the axial length of the vane chamber and hence the capacity of the machine is reduced.
In order to prevent a leak coming from the right end of the keyed notch li 'of part S, whenever a paddle notch S'J passes over it, when working at reduced capacity, the rim Q 'carries inside, on each side of each of the slots of the rim Q, Q walls which form a tight seal for the fluid with the adjacent part of the periphery of the part S at the moment when the notch key R 'is placed in communication with the entry or exit opening by a notch S' blades formed in the key.
The machine shown in fig. 24 to 27 is also of variable capacity and comprises a casing T supporting in a bearing a main axis U carrying a rotor U 'provided with projections F, U3 which constitute vanes moving in an annular vane chamber Y, whose wall outer is formed by a part of the envelope T, while its inner wall is formed by a part IV mounted so as to slide, but not to rotate in the envelope T.
A disc V2 carrying a flange V3 at its periphery is mounted on an axis V 'in the casing; the periphery of this disc is split at diametrically opposed points to allow the projections forming the vanes U @, U3 to slide through this disc. The left end face of the flange Y3 constitutes the right end face of the annular vane chamber, while the left end of this chamber is closed by a shoulder Tl of the casing.
The Y 'axis is supported by bearings arranged in the part W and also by a bearing located at the end of the U axis; it is arranged so as to slide axially relative to the casing with the part W. The U axis and the parts rigidly connected with it are capable of rotating, but not of moving axially in the casing.
A rotary key X carrying a single paddle checker X 'is mounted in bearings arranged in part W and connected to the axis Vt by a reference so as to turn in the same direction as this axis, this key is engaged in notches <I> Y, Y '</I> made respectively in part W and in the casing and located between the inlet and outlet openings X2', X3.
The casing T carries a cylinder T2, in which there is a piston Y 'mounted on the axis Yl, the chamber of the cylinder T2, located to the right of the piston, being connected to the working chamber, so that the pressure in this cylinder dre by the action on the piston V4 counterbalances the pressure acting on the end wall of the vane chamber formed by the flange V3.
In fig. 24, the parts are shown in the maximum capacity position. If it is desired to reduce the capacity of the machine, the axis Y1 and the part W are moved to the left, so that the end wall of the vane chamber formed by the flange V3 approaches the wall of end T1 and reduce the axial length and therefore the capacity of the vane chamber. It is understood that part of the part W engages and moves to the left in an extension of the notch Y 'for the key, so that the key is free to move to the left with the part. W.
In order to prevent leaks through the part of the key notch Yl, left free by the key when working at reduced capacity, the parts of the casing adjacent to the edges of this notch are formed as shown in T3 fig. 25 and 27 and we will see in fig. 27 that the closure between the inlet and outlet openings is thus maintained by the cooperation between the parts T3,
the flange Y3 and the vanes U3 in the part of the vane chamber left free by the key.
