Description

Process for the preparation of a compound which can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifying agent, cleaning agent and detergent. The subject of the present additional patent is a process for the production of a compound which can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifier, cleaning agent and detergent, characterized in that 1 mol. Of the product of action of sodium bisulfite on crotonaldehyde with 2 mol formula

condensed.
The sodium salt of the sulphonic acid obtained in this way, a light-colored powder that is colorless in water, shows excellent capillary-active properties even in very dilute solutions and can be used as an excellent wetting agent, but also as an emulsifier, cleaning agent and detergent.
Example: 415 parts of p-diisobutylphenol are dissolved at 30 "with stirring in a mixture of 450 parts of glacial acetic acid and 900 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid. To this, the 1 mol. Corresponding amount of the product of the action of 70 parts is added Crotonaldehyde to 850 parts of sodium bisulfite solution (containing 24.5% by weight SO,) and stirring continues until a sample is completely soluble in water and no more unchanged diisobutylphenol is present.
The separation of the condensation product is completed by stirring with sodium chloride or Glauber’s salt solution and the resinous condensation product separated off from the acidic mother liquor. By neutralizing it with sodium hydroxide solution and evaporation, a light-colored, powdery end product is obtained. It has good wetting properties and is stable even in strongly acidic solutions.
