Description

Process for the preparation of a compound which can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifying agent, cleaning agent and detergent. In the main patent No. 193 921 is the Her position of a Dioxytriphenylmethansulfon- acid, which according to known manufacturing methods by condensation of 1 Hol. Benzaldehyde-2-sulfonic acid with 2 hol.

4-Tertiary-butyl-2-cresol is formed and its alkali salts are characterized by excellent capillary-active properties, even in very dilute solutions, and their use as wetting, emulsifying, cleaning and washing agents is described.

It has now been found that condensation of the action products of excess bisulfite on unsaturated, aliphatic carbonyl compounds of the aldehyde and ketone series with core alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkylphenols or their halogen substitution products also leads to very valuable compounds ,

which are previously unknown. The new compounds are easily and colorlessly soluble in water and are characterized by their wetting, foaming, dispersing and emulsifying properties. They can be used wherever such specific properties are important in the textile, leather, paper, soap and cosmetic industries.

To prepare the new compounds, the action products of excess bisulfite on unsaturated aliphatic aldehydes and ketones can be used in the form. their alkali salts in a solution or sus pension of the phenol in question in sulfuric acid of various concentrations to react.

To facilitate condensation, other condensing additives or additives that promote condensation due to their dissolving power, such as glacial acetic acid, etc., can be used. .

The subject of the present additional patent is a process for the production of a compound which can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifier, cleaning agent and detergent, characterized in that 1 pint of the product of action of sodium bisulfite on aerolein with 2 mol. 4-diisobutylphenol of the formula
EMI0002.0003
    condensed.

The sodium salt of the sulfonic acid obtained in this way, a light-colored powder that is colorlessly soluble in water, shows excellent capillary active properties even in very dilute solutions and can be used as an excellent wetting agent, but also as an emulsifier, cleaning agent and detergent.

Example:. 415 parts of p-diisobutylphenol are dissolved in 200 parts of glacial acetic acid and 900 parts of 90% strength sulfuric acid and later 13.11 parts are carefully stirred. the product of action of 56 parts of aerolein to 8-2 parts of sodium bisulfite solution (containing 24 percent by weight of SO2). After several hours of stirring at 85 to 40 ', the condensation product has become water-soluble. The sulfuric acid is separated off by pouring into brine.

The viscous sulphonic acid is now neutralized with dilute sodium hydroxide solution and evaporation gives a light, powdery end product with excellent network values.
