  Verfahren zur Herstellung nicht färbender Thioderivate der Phenole. 



   Durch das Patent Nr.   99 792   ist ein Verfahren zur Darstellung nicht färbender Thioderivate geschützt. Es besteht darin, dass man Phenole, ihre Homologen und Substitutionsprodukte, mit   wässrigem   Alkali und mehr   ales molekularen   Mengen Schwefel, mehrere Stunden (etwa 30) erhitzt. 



   Es ist dort angegeben, dass die Mengen des zur Verwendung kommenden Alkalis innerhalb weiter Grenzen schwanken können, u. zw. von der für die Bildung des Phenolsalzes erforderlichen   Mindest-   menge bis zu einem mehrfachen hievon. 



   Es wurde nun gefunden, dass das Verfahren auch mit erheblich geringeren Mengen Alkali ausgeführt werden kann. Die Alkalimenge lässt sich bis etwa zur Hälfte der nach dem Stammpatent verwendeten verringern. Abgesehen von der hiemit verbundenen Ersparnis an Alkali, hat diese Arbeitsweise noch den weiteren Vorteil, dass die mit den so hergestellten Thiophenolen vorgebeizte Baumwolle die Bäder der basischen Farbstoffe vollständiger auszieht. 



   Beispiel : 38 Gewichtsteile Phenol werden mit 15 Gewichtsteilen Wasser und 22 Gewichtsteilen Natronlauge   (380 Bé)   in Lösung gebracht, mit 24 Gewichtsteilen gepulvertem Schwefel vermischt und unter Rückfluss etwa 30 Stunden gekocht. Man kann die ziemlich dickflüssige Schmelze entweder nach den Angaben des Stammpatent aufarbeiten, oder man dampft ohne weitere Reinigung ein, trocknet im Vakuum und pulverisiert. Im letzteren Falle erhält man ein ohne Sodazusatz mit schwach gelblicher Farbe lösliches Präparat, das basische Farbstoffe mit derselben Klarheit und Echtheit fixiert wie die Thiophenolbeizen des Stammpatent.

   Patent No. 99,792 protects a process for the preparation of non-coloring thio derivatives. It consists in heating phenols, their homologues and substitution products, with aqueous alkali and more than a molecular amount of sulfur, for several hours (about 30).



   It is stated there that the amounts of alkali used can vary within wide limits, u. between the minimum amount required for the formation of the phenol salt up to a multiple thereof.



   It has now been found that the process can also be carried out with considerably smaller amounts of alkali. The amount of alkali can be reduced by up to half that used in the parent patent. Apart from the associated saving of alkali, this method of operation has the further advantage that the cotton pre-stained with the thiophenols produced in this way draws the baths of the basic dyes more completely.



   Example: 38 parts by weight of phenol are dissolved in 15 parts by weight of water and 22 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide solution (380 Bé), mixed with 24 parts by weight of powdered sulfur and refluxed for about 30 hours. You can either work up the rather viscous melt according to the information in the parent patent, or you can evaporate without further purification, dry in a vacuum and pulverize. In the latter case, a preparation is obtained which is soluble in a slightly yellowish color without the addition of soda and which fixes basic dyes with the same clarity and authenticity as the thiophenol stains of the parent patent.
