Process for the production of a sulfur dye. The subject of patent no. 1: 86558 is a process for the preparation of a sulfur dye, which consists in treating decacyeles with sulfurizing agents. This gives a red-brown dye of particular clarity and a previously unattained red tint of the colorations that can be achieved with it.
As has now been found, one arrives at equally valuable sulfur dyes with a yellow-brown to brown-olive hue if one subjects one's nitro compounds to sulphurisation instead of the decacycle. Post-treatment of the dyeings with alkylating agents results in a livelier shade and with copper sulfate and chromium potassium a greener shade.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of such a sulfur dye, which is characterized in that Enneanitrodecyclen, as it is obtainable by nitrating D.ekacycl.en with nitric acid and binding, the resulting water by welding fic acid, treated with sulphurous agents.
Example: 700 parts of Ei nneanitrodekacyclen, which by further nitriding of] EIeganitrodehacyclen (obtainable by the action of nitric acid of density 1.5 on decacycles at about 20, ') with anhydrous nitric acid or by nitration of Dekaeyclen with nitric acid and binding of the resulting water by Sulfuric acid can be obtained,
are crystallized in a polysulfide solution of 1050 parts of sulfur and 2450 parts. Entered sulfur sodium and heated for about 20 hours at a boiling temperature of about 113 to 12.0 'on the reflux condenser with stirring.
While distilling off water, the mixture is evaporated to dryness, the temperature is slowly increased to 270 to 280 and baked for several hours at this temperature.
The crude melt obtained (yield about 222380 parts) dissolves without residue in a dilute sulfuric alkali solution and can be used as such for dyeing without further purification.
The dye stains cotton in dark brown tones, which have a subdued shade compared to the dyes obtainable from the hega-nitro compound.
The formation of the dye is not tied to the temperatures given above, they can rather be changed in the manner known for the manufacture of sulfur dyes.
In addition to other good fastness properties, the dyeings are particularly notable for their lightfastness, which exceeds that of the previously known Söhwefel dyes of a similar shade.
