Process for the production of sulfur dyes the subject of the German
Patent 65q.290 is a process for the production of. Vat dyes, thereby
characterized that one decacycles in the presence of chlorosulfonic acid one after the other
or at the same time - subjected to sulphurisation and halogen treatment.
The surprising observation has now been made that derivatives of decacyclene substituted with nitro groups, such as tri-, hexa- and Ennea nitrodecacycles, are able to react in an analogous manner and, when treated with sulfur and halogen or chlorosulfur in the presence of chlorosulfomic acid, even with normal or At a slightly elevated temperature, exceptionally strong dyes result which, like the dyes of German Patent 654 29o, can be colored not only from the vat, but also from a bath containing sodium sulphide and which are different from the dyes of German Patent 655 487, which are obtained by sulphurization of nitrodecacycles are obtained, are distinguished by excellent fastness properties, in particular by their much better light fastness.
Beispiel i 2o Teile Trinitrodekacyclen (erhältlich durch Nitrierung
Example i 20 parts of trinitrodecacycles (obtainable by nitration of decacycles with nitric acid, d = 1.4.2, at 0 to 10 °) are stirred into 10 times the amount by weight of chlorosulfonic acid at about 20 °. Then one carries with gentle cooling at 20 to 30 ° internal temperature still 2o parts of sulfur, a, directs at a slowly increasing internal temperature of 2O to about SO '25 parts of chlorine and can be at about 50 ° 2 stir for 3 hours. When poured onto ice, the dye separates out in yellow-brown flakes. It is washed neutral with water and, after drying, freed from sulfur with one of the usual organic solvents (such as carbon disulfide, trichlorethylene or monochlorobenzoal) or by dissolving it in sodium sulfur and reprecipitating it with bisulfite. The dyestuff obtained in this way dyes cotton both from the vat and from a bath containing sulfur-sodium in strong, yellow-brown shades of excellent fastness.
Example 2 20 parts of hexanitrodecacycles (obtained by action
from nitric acid, d = 1.5, to decacycles at '0 to 20 °) are in the 10-fold
Stirred in by weight of chlorosulfonic acid. Then give it under weak cooling
at an internal temperature of 20 to 30 ° 25 parts of sulfur are added and then passed

Dye is sucked off; washed neutral with water and, as described in example i,
freed from sulfur. It stains both from the vat and from sodium sulphide

of a similar shade and equally good fastness properties is obtained if

Divide chlorine at 20 to 50 degrees. This is followed by stirring at So 'for a further 3 hours.
