Description
Process for the preparation of a new monoazo dye. The present invention relates to the manufacture of a new monoazo dye which produces vivid reddish-orange shades of excellent wash and milled fastness and very good lightfastness on wool.
According to the present process, the dye is obtained by coupling dianotized dodecyl 3-amino-4-methoxy-1-benzoate with 2-naphthol-6: 8-disulfonic acid. Example: A suspension of 33.5 parts by weight of dodecyl 3-amino-4-methoxy-1-benzoate (melting point 500C) in 250 parts by weight of water and 26 parts by weight of 36% hydrochloric acid is obtained by adding 6 , 9 parts by weight of sodium nitrite dianotized.
The solution of the diazo compound obtained in this way is added, if necessary after previous filtration, to a cooled, aqueous solution (5 ° C.) of 30.5 parts by weight of 2-naphthol-6: 8-disulfonic acid, which during the addition by means of soda is kept alkaline against litmus.
The dye formed is initially gelatinous, but after adding salt and stirring for 20 to 30 hours it separates out in a filterable state, whereupon it is filtered off, washed with 10% salt water and dried. When dry, it is a scarlet red powder, which gives an orange-colored solution with cold water and a scarlet-red solution with concentrated sulfuric acid.
The new dye dyes wool from baths containing 2% ammonium acetate in bright reddish orange-yellow shades of excellent wash and milled fastness and very good lightfastness.
