Balance with optical indicating device. As the retail trade increasingly made use of semi-automatic scales generally indicating the weight and price of goods, but up to a maximum of one kilogram, there was a need for an automatic instrument indicating the weight and quantity. corresponding prices up to the. total capacity of the instrument, whether it is 5, 10 or even 20 kg.
There were already automatic balances meeting this condition, but their construction is complicated, their excessively bulky dimensions are a nuisance and the possibility of parallax errors ultimately makes these balances impractical.
The object of the present invention therefore consists in the production of an automatic scale giving all the advantages without any of the drawbacks of existing devices.
Starting from the data that practice has taught, that is to say of reasonable dimensions, from the need to read the weight and the price whatever the range of the device, to make parallax errors impossible, the The present invention relates to an automatic ba lance using optical means to achieve this goal.
This balance is characterized in that the dial which carries on a very small scale the indications of the weights and prices corresponding to the total capacity of the balance, is rigidly fixed to a pendulum which is actuated by the beam of the balance by the 'Intermediate of a flexible band which acts on a control cam integral with the pendulum and makes it possible both to make the lines of the scale of the dial equidistant, the latter being projected with considerable magnification on the reading screens.
This balance offers over most ordinary automatic balance systems, currently known, important advantages both in terms of precision, sensitivity and reduced size, as well as in terms of speed and elimination of errors. due to false calculations and false readings, when the weight to be evaluated exceeds the range of the dial, which is generally limited to one kilo.
Since the scale can give the exact price for each weight of goods, whatever the weight, its dimension for easy reading greatly exceeds the dimensions of the dials of the devices currently in use.
One embodiment of the balance according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, by way of example and schematically.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the entire apparatus; Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the entire mechanism; Fig. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the elements of the housing; Fig. 15 and 6 show detail views, on a larger scale, of the assembly of the bearings receiving the suspension knives of the dial;
Fig. 7 shows a view of the weight and price reading dial showing the arrangement of unit prices, right part; Fig. 8 shows details of the dial holder and pendulum masses; Fig. 9 is a diagram of the optical part; Fig. 10 shows the device for checking the mechanism;
Fig. 11 is a perspective view of the whole of the pendulum mass established according to another embodiment; Fig. 12 also shows a variant of execution in which the cams are cylindrical.
1 represents the frame of the balance, which receives the front casing 2, which itself supports the dial and the pendular masses.
A rear casing 3, provided with a window 4, giving. the weight of the goods weighed, allows the mechanism to be locked, its final position being obtained by the use of a jack bearing on the base 1. The dressing is completed by a box 6 and two circular flanges 7 .
The mechanism is entirely enclosed in said casing which has only one opening, that reserved for the exit of the support of the goods tray; this covers it by fact and thus guarantees the mechanism against the introduction of dust and foreign bodies.
An opening 8 is made in the rear casing 3 to allow adjustment of the exterior of the brake 9 by means of the control lan 10.
The front housing 2 has at the top of the. bearing supports 11 (fig. 2, 5 and 6).
These supports receive in the case of FIG. 5 in an imprint, a steel ball 12. On this ball rests, also by an imprint, the pad holder 1S, provided -du rigidly fixed pad 14 (either agate or special steel).
The bearing holder 18 rests by one of its ends on the ball 12 and by the other on a bearing path 15, also curved, so as to allow the oscillation of the bearing holder 13 and, consequently, of the bearing 14 whose bottom edge of V is always carried over its entire length with the edge of the knife 16 serving as an articulation to the whole of the pen dular mass; this system gives the apparatus great sensitivity and remarkable fidelity.
Fig. 6 represents a variant of the bearing holder in which the curved path 15 is replaced by a cylindrical axis 1 $, suspended from another axis 19, integral with the balance, by means of a connecting rod 20, the whole being even more sensitive than in the assembly shown in FIG. 5.
These axes 18 and 19 could also be executed in the form of knives.
Fig. 8 shows the detail of the dial support and pendulum masses. A round axis 21 receives at each of its ends an articulation knife 16 and also carries .des supports 22 for fixing the suspension arms 23 which hold a frame 24 on which the dial 25 is fixed. A cam 2 @ 6 is wedged by adjustment on the shaft 21 and is connected by a flexible band 27 to the balance mechanism placed at the lower part in the trunk.
The dial 25 is transparent and very small, executed either on glass, or on photographic film or any other suitable material and movably fixed inside the apparatus. The indications of said dial are illuminated, greatly enlarged and projected onto mirrors and, from there, onto one or more screens provided for this purpose.
The use of cam 2163 allows the obtaining of divisions. equidistant on the dial 25 and thus facilitates its execution thus presenting a clear improvement on the current way of producing this part. The axis supporting this assembly is provided with pendular masses playing their usual role and which may vary according to the capacity of the weighing instrument.
The mechanism (fig. 2) consists of a beam 28 resting on the base and one end of which acts on the flexible strip 27 and communicates the movement, to the dial 25. The arm 29 rests at the lower part on the beam 2 , 8 and is held at the upper part by an adjustable counter-beam 30 resting on the front housing 2.
e Fig. 9 schematically represents the optical system of the balance. A lamp 31 fixed to the lower part is connected to an automatic switch for controlling the lighting during weighing :. The rays of the lamp pass through a capacitor 32 fixed on the base, before coming to meet the mobile and transparent dial 25 whose image captured by a rigidly fixed lens 33 is shown on mirrors 34 and 35 which show the graduations. at. read (fig. 7) respectively on frosted glasses 36 and 37 corresponding to the front face and the rear face of the appliance.
These com frosted glasses carry a simple tracking device making it possible to eliminate errors, parallax in the reading of the indications obtained and not having any of the drawbacks of the known systems there wires, or springs (twists., Deformations, breaks ). The realization of this device consists of a thin line placed directly on the ground glass where the projected indication can be read.
One of the peculiarities of this optical system is the rigid fixing of the objective 33 on the front casing, simplifying the assembly and adjustment of the balance.
In the above balance, the illumination of dial 25 may be permanent or intermittent. In the latter case, the dial will only be illuminated when the scale is loaded. This intermittent lighting can be controlled by an automatic switch comprising a balanced contactor lever, the displacement of which is controlled by a tab secured to one of the movable members of the weighing mechanism.
Since the latter method is preferable, the dial must be able to be illuminated for the short period necessary to verify whether the mechanism, unloaded, is indeed at zero.
One of the recommended means is thus described in FIG. 10. A cylindrical body 38, enclosed in the interior of the housings, contains a piston 39 bathed in oil 40 or a graphite piston in a cylinder. The piston 39 is provided, at its upper part, with a rod 41 surmounted by a washer 42. This piston 39 is reassembled under the action of a cam 43 controlled from the outside by an unstable balance handle 44.
On the other hand, a switch properly connected to the electrical circuit, including a breaker 45 provided with a contact 46 which can rest on a second contact 47, is mounted near the cylinder 38, so as to allow the piston 39, when it is in the rest position and therefore in contact with the breaker 45, to separate the two contacts 46 and 47.
On the other hand, when the piston 39 is subjected to the operation of the handle 44, the udder your 39 goes up and the breaker, released from the pressure of the washer 42, ensures contact at its two points 46 and 47, establishing the circuit and allowing the illumination of the dial during the -de-descent -of the piston 39. The duration of the -de-descent period is regulated by means known and usually employed in the. liquid or air shock absorbers.
In weighing devices and in the case of hard stone supports, the constancy of the characteristics of the balance depends on the duration of the resistance, the specific pol- ity of. V faces. When this polish appears, the stone wears off and acts as an abrasive on the dull edge of the knife. The suspension axis of the crew is lowered at the same time as the resistance to angular displacements increases.
In the case of support in special polished steel, it is impossible to obtain a sharp edge at the intersection of the oblique faces of the V. The knife is therefore conjugated with a cylindrical surface of connection along which its edge moves during the weighing pendulum movements. In this embodiment, the suspension axis of the crew is subjected, therefore, to horizontal displacements on either side of its theoretical axis.
These parasitic movements, of low amplitude, however, take on considerable importance in the case of a balance of this type because of the magnification produced by the luminous projection of the reading scale; this projection increasing, in the same proportions, the variations in the position of the marks of said scale.
In order to remedy these faults, an improvement can be made in the assembly of the pendulum assembly of the balance. This improved assembly is shown in f ig. 11 and 12.
In fig. 11, 50 and 51 represent the extreme upper parts of the rigid frame supporting the transparent mobile dial. The whole -de pendulum mass is supported by the journals 16 on the vertical guiding paths 52, the suspension being effected by the? flexible and inextensible metal bands 53; the pulling cam 26 receives a strip 27 ensuring the connection with the lower mechanism.
Fig. 12 shows another variant of execution with very rounded contacts, the cams being cylindrical. In this case, the knives 16 of FIG. 1 are replaced by rollers 54, themselves fixed on arms integral with the pendulum mass 55. Each flexible strip 53. will therefore be fixed at one of its ends on the roller 54 of the pendulum mass 55 and, at the other end, on the guide path 52.
What matters is that the tape passes through the contact line between the roller 54 and the corresponding path 52. This assembly allows to obtain the following results: a) The sensitivity of the mechanism is ac crue and the wear of the suspension components is inexistent; b) Any lateral play is eliminated, so that the image reflected on the ground glass does not undergo any horizontal translation.
