Description

W. SCHROEDERQ EGG TESTER.
A PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP A3. 111111 o.
976,700. Patented N0v.22, 1910.
WILHELM SCHROEDER, OF BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
EGG-TESTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 22, 1910.
Application filed March 19, 1910. SerialvNo. 550,435.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, l/VILHELM SoHRoEDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berkeley, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Testers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to egg testers, and the principal object of the same is to provide a novel lamp holder and a pair of cooperating mirrors which are adapted to reliect the light rays from a lamp on said holder to an egg receptacle, so that an egg in said receptacle may be tested in a short time.
In carrying out the object of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the improved tester. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view thereof taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1, the lamp being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is a View' in rear elevation, the lamp being omitted.
Referring to said drawing by numerals, 1 designates the flat and preferably annular base of the improved tester, which has a handle 2 by means of which movement of the tester is facilitated. At one portion of its periphery, the base is provided with an upright strip 3, preferably a wide strip of sheet metal. The upper end of strip 3 carries a mirror housing 4 through which a horizontal shaft 5 extends, said shaft being journaled in the side walls of said housing and one of its projected ends equipped with a handgrip 6 by means of which said shaft may be manually rotated. A mirror 7 is mounted on shaft 5 within housing 4, said mirror being preferably concaved.
An egg receptacle 8 is seated on top of housing 4, the bottom of said receptable forming the top of said housing and being provided with an opening 9 that communi- Cates with said housing 4, said opening being preferably of an egg shape. Receptacle 8 is provided with doors 10-11 which are hinged to its front surface, said doors only partly closing said front surface so that a central opening 12 is provided in the front of the receptacle through which an egg seated in opening 9 may be viewed.
At a point on the periphery of base 1 opposite the strip 3, a vertical rod 13 projects from said base, said rod extending to a higher plane than housing 4- and having its upper -end 14 inwardly inclined and equipped with a mirror 15.
A lamp 16 is mounted on base 1 between strip 3 and supporting rod13, the globe 17 of said lamp extending well above mirror 7, so that the light rays therefrom will be reected downward by mirror 15 to mirror 7, and be reflected from the latter mirror to an egg seated in opening 9, thereby permitting an inspection of the egg to be made through sight opening 12.
It will be understood that mirror 7 is mounted on a rotatable shaft so that its angle may be varied when desired, and also that the use of the doors for the egg receptacle permits ready access to be had to said receptacle so that the handling of the eggs will be facilitated.
What I claim as my invention is 1. An egg tester comprising a base, a support projecting from one side thereof, a mir- Vror housing at the upper end of said support, an inclined adjustable concaved mirror mounted therein, an egg receptacle mounted on the top of said housing and provided in the bottom with an egg seat communicating` with said housing and with a sight opening, a supporting rod projecting from the opposite side of said base, a mirror carried by the upper end thereof, and a lamp seated on said base between said supporting rod and said mirror housing support.
2. An egg tester comprising a base, oppositely disposed supports carried thereby, a mirror housing carried by one support, an adjustable mirror therein, an egg receptacle carried by said housing and provided with an egg seat that communicates with said housing, said receptacle also provided with a sight opening, and a reflector carried by the other support in a plane higher than said mirror.
3. An egg tester comprising a base, a support projecting from one portion thereof, a mirror housing carried by the upper end of said support, a shaft rotatable in said housing, a mirror on said shaft, an egg receptacle on said housing and having an egg seat in its bottom that communicates with said housing, doors for saidreceptaele said doors beingV spaced apart to provide'a sight open-V ing, a rod projecting-from an-oppositepor; tion of said base and having an inwardly inf,
vertically arranged supporting rod projecting:- fnont onefpjortion'` thereof, a Vertieally arranged supporting strip projeetingifrom an opposite' portion of: saidl base, a; nleector j carried by the npper end of said rod, a 1nir-` ror housing carried by the upper end of said strip, a mirror therein, an egg receptacle 15 forming the top of said housing, and a i source of light adapted to be seated on said :base between the supporting rod and strip.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presenceI of; two witnesses.
