Process for the preparation of a dye of triarylmethane grater. There are already processes for the presen- tation of dyes of the triarylmethane series, which the group
EMI0001.0006
wherein "alk" is alkyl and "R" is hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, has been described.
It has now been found that valuable dyes of the triarylmethane series are obtained if such dyes of this series, which form the group
EMI0001.0014
where "alk" stands for a substituted alkyl group and "R" stands for hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, prepared by processes known per se.
Examples of substituents which may be present in the alkyl radical of the sulfonic alkyl group are: hydroxyl, the etherified hydroxyl group and halogen.
The dyes can be prepared in such a way that aromatic amines of the general formula:
EMI0001.0031
where "alk" stands for a substituted alkyl group and "R" stands for hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, are used for their structure,
respectively that the group alk-SO3H is subsequently introduced into the amino group of fully formed triarylmethane dyes.
Of course, the new dyes can, if appropriate, be produced by subsequently introducing substituents into the alkyl group of the finished dye or by replacing existing substituents with others according to processes known per se.
The dyes obtainable in this way have the same good properties as those described at the beginning.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a triaryl methane dye. It consists in mixing the sodium salt of the sulfuric acid ester of the leuco base from 1 mol of tetramethyldiaminobenzhydrol and 1 1M1 of N-n-butyl-N.-phenylamino-N-ss-
Treated at elevated temperature and the leuco base is oxidized to the dye. Example: The sodium salt of the sulfuric acid ester, which is obtained from 62 parts by weight of the by condensation of tetramethyldiaminobenzydrol.
leuco compound obtained with Nn-butyl-NT-phenylamino-N-, l-oxypropane-y-sulfonic acid is prepared in a known manner, it is heated in about 300 parts by weight of water and 150 parts by weight of crystallized sodium sulfite 4 to 5 hours in a closed vessel at 150 '. The reaction mass is dissolved in hot water. When it cools down, part of the sodium salt of the new compound is deposited. The separation is completed by adding common salt.
This gives the leuco compound of the probable constitution:
EMI0002.0037
in gray-blue flakes, which can be oxidized in the usual way, for example in acidic solution with lead peroxide, to the corresponding dye. A readily soluble bronzing powder is obtained which gives the animal fiber a very clear purple color.
