Process for the production of a new dye of the anthraquinone series. The present invention relates to the preparation of a new dye of the formula:
EMI0001.0003
The dye of the above formula is obtained by condensing 1-Amiiio-4-methylamino-anthraquinone with 2: 2'-Dinitro-4: 4'-dicarbo xydiphenyl disulfide, reducing the resulting disulfide to the corresponding thiophenol, this condensed with an a-halo-n-buttersoic acid.
The product is a blue powder, which dyes wool from an acetic acid bath in reddish blue tones, which become a strong reddish blue after an aftertreatment with dilute mineral acid. <I> Example: </I> 4 parts of the intermediate compound, which is obtained from 2: 2'-dinitro-4: 4'-dicarboxydiphenyl disulfide and 1-amino-4-methylaminoanthraquinone as in Example 8 of British Patent No. 406733 was obtained, are crystallized with 12 parts of sodium sulfide. heated to boiling point for 20 minutes in 50 parts of methyl alcohol.
The mixture is poured into 100 parts of water, which contains 5 parts of a-bromo-n-butyric acid neutralized with the measured amount of sodium carbonate. Another 5 parts of sodium carbonate are added and the temperature is set to <B> 90 '<for a quarter of an hour / B> increased. Then 15 parts of common salt are added and, after cooling to <B> 50 '</B>, the dye is filtered off. The dye can be purified by redissolving it in boiling water, filtering to remove insolubles, and reprecipitation by adding salt.
When dyeing in an acetic acid bath, the dye has a good affinity for wool and after treatment with hot mineral acid, its shade is reddish blue. The dye has excellent light and washing resistance.
