Le mécanisme disjoncteur comprend l'or gane de disjonction 5 pivoté sur la platine 1 et présentant deux bras 6 fermant le circuit par les pièces de contacts 8 et 9 reliées à la source d'électricité et au corps .de chauffe @du fer ù repasser par les conducteurs souples 10 et 11;
Automatic thermal circuit breaker for electric circuit. The object of the present invention is an automatic thermal circuit breaker for an electrical circuit, comprising an expandable thermal element exposed to the temperature variations of this circuit and a re-said circuit disconnection member which a spring tends to bring into position of. 'opening, but which .is maintained in the closed position by the thermal element as long as the latter has not expanded by a given amount, characterized in that the disjunction member has a heel which, in posi circuit closing action butts against an arm of a lever, on which a spring acts:
, and the other arm of which is subjected to the action of the thermal element, this lever being mounted rotatably on an eccentric, itself pi voted on the frame, and actuable by hand, in order to cause a movement of the center, of rotation of said lever to allow it to release the disjunction member at a higher or lower temperature, this disjunction member not being able to be kept in the closed position of the circuit by the lever as long as the temperature of the element. thermal is not. dropped back below the cut-out temperature.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention, applied to an electric iron.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof, the front part of the housing being assumed to be removed; fig. 2 is an elevation view thereof, in profile; fig. 3 shows a detail in vertical section and on a larger scale, and the fi-. 4 is an IV-IV section of fib. 3.
In this embodiment, - the mechanism is mounted on a plate 1, made of insulating material, rigidly adapted to the plug 2 of the iron 3, and covered with a housing 4.
The circuit breaker mechanism comprises the circuit breaker unit 5 pivoted on the plate 1 and having two arms 6 closing the circuit by the contact parts 8 and 9 connected to the source of electricity and to the heating body of the iron. by flexible conductors 10 and 11;
the member 5 is subjected to the action of a spring 7 which tends to make it pivot in the direction of the arrow f, to break the circuit, and it can be returned to the position where the circuit is closed by the control lever 12 The stop member cooperating with the heel 13 of the member 6, to maintain the latter in its closed position -du circuit, is constituted by the long arm 14 - an angled lever 15. The latter can turn on an eccentric 16, itself pivoted on a screw 17 carried by the housing 4 and secured to a small operating arm, 16 ', projecting out of the crankcase.
The lever 15 is subjected to the action of the spring 18 which applies the small arm 19 of this lever against one end of the thermal element 20 which consists of a metal bar with a high coefficient of expansion, of which the other end is fixed in 21 to the casing 4. The thermal element 20 is applied against the base. the iron 3 which communicates its exact temperature to it.
The dimensions of all the members of the circuit breaker shown are such that when the temperature of the iron becomes dangerous, the lever 15, actuated by the bar 20, the length of which has increased, releases the heel 13, and allows the spring 7 to bring member 5 to the circuit opening position (fig. 1).
The temperature at which the circuit-breaker is released can be adjusted using the eccentric 16. In fact, by turning the latter slightly, in one direction or the other, using the operating arm. 16 ', we: move the center of rotation of lever 15; the latter, resting by its arm 19 against the bar 20, turns slightly, and causes the end 14 'of the arm 14 to penetrate more or less deeply behind the heel 13 of the member 5.
It is obvious that by reducing or increasing this depth of penetration, designated by 1 in FIG. 3, the bar 20 should extend more or less to release the lever 15 from the heel 13.
Plate 1 as well as all the circuit-breaker mechanism is adapted to plug 2 by means of an adjustable fixing device allowing, when plug 2 is attached to the iron, to lead and fix plate 1 in a position where the bar 20 is exactly applied against the base of the iron; given the delicacy of the adjustment device described in the previous paragraph, this condition is indeed important.
This fixing device comprises two pairs of arms 22 -and 23 having smooth longitudinal necks 24, respectively 27, and which are rotatably mounted by one -of their ends at 26, respectively 27 on the plate. The arms of each pair are linked together by a screw 28 passing through the slides 24 -and 25 thereof, and screwing into the plug 2. To make the plate 1 completely integral with the plug 2, it suffices to tighten, using pliers, nuts 26 'and 27'. of joints 26 and 27, and screw 28.
