Supposons que l'arbre 1 et le balancier 2 oscillent; au moment ou l'armature 5 va pénétrer dans l'entrefer, le circuit de l'élec- tro-aimant est fermé par le moyen d'un interrupteur, non représenté. L'armature 5 est alors aspirée à l'intérieur de l'entrefer, ce qui donne une impulsion motrice au balancier;
Electric timepiece. The object of the present invention is an electric timepiece of the type having an electromagnet acting on an oscillating armature. This part is characterized in that the frame is mounted at the end of an arm disposed radia.lement with respect to the axis of oscillation and in that its length, counted perpendicular to the plane of the axis and of the arm is at most equal to that of the air gap of the electromagnet, with the aim that the armature remains only a short time in the field of action of this electromagnet.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention, as well as an alternative detail.
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of the embodiment thereof partly in section; figs. 2 and 3 are two plan views, in two different stages of operation; fig. 4 concerns the variant.
The timepiece shown com takes a rotary shaft 1, on which the balance 2 is mounted, cooperating with a hairspring 3, one end of which is fixed on the shaft 1 and the other on a fixed part, not shown. On this shaft is also fixed a radial arm 4 carrying at its end an armature 5 having, in cross section, the shape of a cross, fixed to the arm by its vertical upper branch; this armature cooperates with an electromagnet of which 6 is the coil and 7 the pole pieces. The length of the armature 5 (counted perpendicular to the plane of the arm 4 and the axis of oscillation) is equal to or less than the length of the air gap between the pole pieces. 8 is a counterweight balancing the arm 4 and the frame 5.
Suppose the shaft 1 and the balance 2 oscillate; when the armature 5 enters the air gap, the circuit of the electromagnet is closed by means of a switch, not shown. The frame 5 is then sucked inside the air gap, which gives a driving impulse to the balance;
after which the above-mentioned switch opens and the armature 5 comes out of the gap; after a moment, it is far enough away from the pole pieces 7 so that the reimanant magnetism of these pieces cannot have any action on the armature and therefore on the amplitude of the oscillations of the balance.
The cross shape of the armature allows good use of the lines of force of the electromagnet. This use can be further increased by giving the frame the shape of a cross whose horizontal arms are double as shown in fig. 4 (these arms could also be multiple).
