Les fig. 1, 2 et 3 montrent une première forme d'exécution de l'appareil en vue fron tale, en élévation latérale et en plan; Les fig. 4, 5 et 6 sont des élévations fron tale et en plan, ainsi qu'une vue latérale d'une autre forme d'exécution, différant de la première à certains points de vue; Les fig. 7, 7a et 8 sont des élévations par tiellement en coupe latérale et frontale et un plan de l'engrenage différentiel de la forme d'exécution selon les fig. 1 à 3; Les fig. 9, 1,0 et 11 montrent des éléva tions latérale et frontale, ainsi qu'un plan à plus grande échelle de la pince 6 pour corde des fig. 1 à 6;
Apparatus for stringing rackets, for example tennis. The present invention relates to an apparatus for stringing rackets, for example tennis. This apparatus is characterized in that it comprises means for applying a voltage to the orders, for tightening them, which are arranged so that, for each string, when the required tension is reached, these means cease automatically. to increase the tension of the rope.
By means of this apparatus the correct tension is automatically applied to each string without being exceeded, the application of the tension being made by mechanical means provided so as to automatically prevent not only the string from breaking due to negligence. on the part of the worker, but also allowing a motor drive to be substituted for human force, with the same advantage relating to the independence of the vigilance of the worker, to stop the mechanism before the movement of the tensioning parts reaches a point at which breakage of the string is inevitable.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention.

Figs. 18 and 19 show a side elevation and a longitudinal section of another type of gear, in particular according to FIGS. 4 to 6.
The apparatus comprises a frame which carries a pair of parallel horizontal shafts 1 and 2. These trees are hereinafter called pinch trees. The tennis racquet (not shown) is fixed between these trees at their midpoint and parallel to them, on a horizontal platform 3, by means of four positive interlocking disks 4 distributed around the frame of the racquet. Another interlocking device 5 of the kind of a vice, serves _à grip the handle of the racket. These interlocking devices will be described in great detail below.
Pinch shafts 1 and 2 each carry a so-called rope clamp 6 which grips the free end of the individual ropes. The rope is stretched by the rotation of said rope clamp 6 with its respective pinch shaft 1 or 2. This rope clamp and its operation will also be described in detail later.
Each of the two clamping shafts 1 and 2 carries (fig. 1, 2 and 3), a helical helical wheel 7 with which worm screws 8 and 9 respectively engage. (In fig. 4, 5 and 6 of the wheels Conical 77 replace the worms and the helical wheels.) These two worms 8 and 9- are each on one end of a shaft 10, which is hereinafter called the intermediate shaft. This intermediate shaft 10 extends below the shafts 1 and 2 and at right angles to these shafts.
A helical wheel 11 (FIG. 3) is arranged in the middle of the intermediate shaft 10; with it a worm 12 engages (fig. 7). This worm 12 is carried by a shaft 18 which is one of the shafts of the differential gear mentioned above and which is actually the one which transmits their movement to the various other shafts to produce the desired traction of the rope. . The differential shaft 13 also extends below the shafts 1 and 2, but parallel to them and halfway between them.
The differential gear (fig. 7) com takes a pair of coaxial shafts 14, 15 and two bevel gears 16, 17, one of which is keyed to each of the shafts 14, 15. It also comprises an annular pinion. 18 which rotates on the shafts 14, 15 and which carries a pair of conical planetary wheels 19, <B> 20 </B> which mesh with the main conical wheels 16, 17. The pinion ring 18 is rotated by a cage or casing 21, which in turn is rotated about the axis of the differential shafts 14, 15, by a suitable drive.
One of the two shafts, hereinafter referred to as the anti-traction shaft 14, is retained by a force of known magnitude, which can be established in advance, while the other shaft referred to above. after traction shaft 15, serves as a drive means for intermediate shaft 10 in the manner already indicated.
The anti-traction shaft 14 is provided at its free end with a lever 22 (FIG. 7a) on which an adjustable weight 2, 3 (FIG. 2) is placed. This allows the tensile force to be varied. The particular position of the weight 2.3 on the lever .22; that is to say its distance from the anti-traction shaft 14 forming the pivot, determines the value of the traction to which the rope is subjected. The pull of the rope is therefore always a constant function of the weight 23 and its particular position.
In the embodiment described above, the differential gear is dragged in an uninterrupted manner and to start the rope clamps 6, the dragging of the intermediate shaft 10 is controlled by the shaft < B> 13, </B> 15 traction by means of a coupling 24 (fig. 7 and 8); the worm 112 carried by the traction shaft 15 rotates freely on this shaft and can be connected with it through the intermediary of said coupling 24.
An arrangement may be provided whereby the gear automatically returns to the initial position as soon as the desired pull of the rope is obtained. A suitable arrangement for this purpose may take the form of a side arm extending by pulling the weight lever 22 which, when the weight 23 is lifted, releases the set of levers 26 (fig. 8) consisting of several levers and connecting rods, so that the coupling 24 on the traction shaft 1; 3, 15, opens. Preferably, this coupling is normally opened by a tension spring 78 and held in the coupling position only by the set of levers 26.
It can be seen that, as a result of the arrangement described above, the complete gear returns to the initial neutral position, that is to say it ceases to exert any impulse on the particular string; this rope would therefore momentarily come back loose in the event that this tendency is not prevented by another device.
In reality, an exhaust 27 with teeth (Figs. 4 and 5) is arranged on the intermediate shaft 10 and maintains this shaft in any required position. This exhaust can, at any time, be disengaged, for example by a lever 27a (fig. 4, 5 and, 6), so that the .ar bres 1 and -2 pinch can again return. to their position. initial.
The operation of the main part of the apparatus described above is as follows: the differential envelope 21 is rotated continuously by a suitable motor or other drive, the retained side 14, 16 of the differential remains at rest and the opposite pull side: <B> there, </B> 17 turns. The string is then fixed between the respective string clamps 6, as will be described below, while the other end of the particular string is already fixed to the racket. Coupling 24 is then closed so that pinch shafts 1 and 2 are driven from traction shaft 15.
As soon as the pull of the rope has reached a value such that the torque to be applied to the main free bevel gear 17 (traction), is equal to the opposite torque (from weight 23), to the other bevel gear 16 main (retainer), the. conical wheel 17 which was previously free, is then maintained. Any further traction of the rope then ceases automatically due to the fact that the bevel traction wheel 17 is stopped; the anti-traction wheel 16 must turn and continue to rotate until the wheel 17-. conical traction becomes free again.
The rotation of the bevel drive wheel 16 also rotates the shaft 14 and thereby lifts the weight 2.3 until the side arm 25 of the loaded lever 22 releases the gear 2.6 and opens - the coupling 24 by which the traction shaft 13, 15 puts the rope under tension. When the gear returns back to the neutral position because the conical wheel 17 no longer has any connection with the rope, the pre-weighting of the torque acting on it with respect to the antagonistic torque acting on the opposite bevel wheel 16 ceases. and this last wheel is, consequently, again held by the weight 2'3 and the coni wheel 17 which turns freely as before.
The traetiori produced on the rope is in the meantime kept bare by the toothed exhaust 27 which stops the intermediate shaft 10, as already described.
Thus, the string which has just been put in the racket is fixed in a device which will be referred to hereinafter as string clamp 37 (fig. 5, 12 and 13) - and which will be described in detail later. The rope is extended by pulling the clamp 6 and threaded through the racket, an operation which can be facilitated in the manner described below. Once the exhaust 27 of the shaft 10 has been released, the string is fixed in the other clamp 6 and as the spike 37, lying almost in the racket, has been released in the meantime, the operations described are repeated until the stringing of the racquet is complete.
Other characteristics of the object of the invention will be described in the following parts. First, the clamps 6 for the rope will be described (Figs. 9, 10 and 11). In a preferred embodiment, these pins include an eccentric device for effecting the interlocking.
Each clamp 6 comprises a lever 28 which is keyed on the particular pinch shaft 1 or 2 and which carries a roller 29 at its free end. It further comprises two interlocking jaws 30, 31, the main jaw 3: 0 of which is fixed in such a way to the particular clamping shaft 1 or 2 that it can rotate freely with respect to the shaft. , within certain limits, tan say that the second jaw, 31., is adjustably mounted on a cantilever lever 32 which is attached to the main jaw. . The main jaw 30 is cylindrical in shape, its axis coincides with the axis of the shaft 1 or 2.
A segment of this drum is however removed and the string supporting this segment forms the interlocking face of the jaw. This engagement face 33 is preferably provided with grooves or corrugations. The second jaw 31 is disposed between the interlocking face 3-3 and the roller 29 and the interlocking face of the second jaw 31 faces the main jaw 30 and is of complementary shape to the interlocking face 33. , while the side facing the roller 29 constitutes a more or less abrupt eccentric face 34.
In order to fit it, the cord is pulled over the cylindrical part of the main jaw 30 and then, down between the interlocking faces; however, preferably, the rope is pulled up again and for this purpose a pin 36 is disposed on the cantilever arm 32, the rope being <B> placed </B> around this pin, pegs dials 35 being provided if desired. The shaft 1 or 2 with the lever 28 which is fixed to it, is then released to rotate, so that the latter moves along the eccentric face 34 of the second interlocking jaw 31. The two interlocking jaws 30, 31 are above all still kept bare separated by the cord.
However, as soon as the interlocking force exerted by the eccentric exceeds the rearward pulling force of the rope, the entire clamp 6 is set in motion and rotates forward with shaft 1 or 2. of pinching due to the action of the lever 2,8 and the roller 2 @ 9.
We will now describe more fully with reference to FIGS. 12 and 1, 3, a form of the crampon 37 for the rope. This dis- p'o, sitîf allows the ropes to be interlocked, so as to keep the last treated cord taut, while the end thus released is nested in the next cord clamp 6 (fig. 12, 13).
The clamp 37 (Fig. 12 and 13) consists of two interlocking jaws 38, 39 each comprising several interlocking faces arranged in opposition. The jaw 39 is extended and has at its base a recess 41 which is a pendant to a pivoted plate 42 gripped by the clamp 43, the clamping of which serves to maintain the clamp on a square shaft passing through the device. The jaws 38 and 39 are held in pi voted engagement by a support 44 (fulcrum) and are both joined and separated by a threaded shaft 45 and by a nut 46.
We will now describe the devices 4 for fitting the frame of the racket.
These interlocking devices consist of a tubular part 47 (fig. 14, 15) which is arranged so as to be able to turn and which, at the same time, is vertically adjustable on the frame of the whole apparatus. They also include an arm 48 which is disposed at the upper end of the part 47 tu bulaire, perpendicular to this part and which can oscillate above the frame of the striking surface of the racket. The interlocking is effected by means of a mechanism 49 comprising articulated levers, thanks to which the tubular part 47 is forced downwards against the pressure of the spring 50.
A second weaker spring 51 normally serves to push the interlocking arm 49 up and away from the racket frame.
The preferred embodiment for the interlocking device 5 (fig. 1, 2, 3 and 5) for the racket handle consists of a threaded shaft 52 having a thread on the right and a thread on the left (fig. 3). and 5), which acts on two clamping jaws 53, which can be moved towards each other and vice versa. by turning a handwheel 54.
The following describes the device by means of which the threading of the transverse strings is made possible when the longitudinal strings are already placed in the racket. This device (fig. 16 and 17) preferably comprises auxiliary means thanks to which each Longitudinal pair rope is lifted from its position, while the other longitudinal ropes are left in place.
The means intended for this purpose are shown in FIGS. 4, 5 and 6 and more fully in fig. 16 and 17, in which a shaft 55 has several separating members 56 attached to it, which in this case consist of circular discs disposed eccentrically on this shaft. They are furthermore arranged alternately with respect to the others, that is to say they are arranged in two groups, one of which extends to the right and the other to the left. .The shaft 55 -is mounted in horizontal bearings 57 joined by the bridge 65 having short pillars 58.
These latter are screwed or fixed in another way on the platform 3 on which the tennis racket is fixed. The shaft 55 can be rotated in the bearings 57, preferably by hand, by means of a crank 59, arranged on this shaft, but not exclusively in this way.
To allow the discs 56 to come on at different places along the length of the racket, the pillars 58 are made adjustable in this direction by being arranged so that they can pass through the longitudinal grooves 60 in the platform. 3 and so that they can slide in these grooves.
In order to give more access to the upper part of the racket, especially when the last pair of strings have been threaded, the shaft 55 and its eccentric discs 56 can be constructed to oscillate as a whole. around a support 61.
Although it is not desired to be limited to the use of the invention for stretching the horns of the transversals only, it is however preferable to stretch the longitudinal strings to. the hand.
Another optional modification can be made in combination with the main part of the invention, this modification targeting the differential gear. In an optional arrangement according to FIGS. 18 and 19, this gear consists of a continuous shaft 66, of a pair of main bevel wheels 67, 68 of which one (67) is driven from the outside and moves on said shaft 66 and of which the au tre (f8) is keyed onto the shaft 66 and into another pair of planetary wheels 69 or preferably into a single planetary wheel 69 which meshes with the main bevel wheels -67, 68. The planetary wheel 69 is within reach by a pivot ring 70 and the latter moves concentrically on the shaft 616 to.
using a cage or an appropriate envelope.
In this variant example, the cage or the casing 71 is held back at a certain distance by means of a counterweight 72 (fig. 5 and 6) on a lever 73 and is loaded just like the shaft 14 d. anti-strain relief of the first example. The real tensioning device of the viriante according to fig. 4 to 6, 18 and 19, is driven by a continuous shaft 66 (continuously rotating) which in this case carries a toothed wheel 74, with chain which can be coupled to this shaft by means of a coupling 76 with claws.
The remaining parts of the device are modified as follows: The automatic escapement 25, 26 consisting of levers and connecting rods, is intended to cooperate with the cage 71 or the intermediate shaft 10 is driven from the wheel 74 with toothed chain (fig. 6) using a chain drive 75. Thus, the axis of the intermediate shaft moves above the differential shaft 66 and parallel to the latter and it drives, through a bevel gear 77, the pinch shafts 1 and 2. , each of these being connected to one end of the intermediate shaft 10, as in the first example.
The operation of this modified embodiment of the differential gear is as follows: The main bevel gear 67 (Fig. 18) freely rotating on shaft 66 is continuously rotated from the outside. by the gear associated with it, the cage 71 being retained, the bevel gear 67 causes the rotation of the planet wheel (s) 69 - around their pivots, so that the bevel gear G8 and the shaft 66 on which it is keyed, must also turn.
The rope is then fixed in the clamp 6 and the coupling is engaged, so that the intermediate shaft 10 and therefore also the respective pinch shafts 1, 2 are rotated. As soon as the pull of the rope increases until the driving torque of the differential shaft 66 and, consequently, of the keyed bevel wheel 68, equals the value of the counter torque, which acts on the cage 71 and tends to stop the planetary wheels 69, the keyed shaft on the bevel gear 68, and therefore the main shaft 66 also stops rotating, so that a new pull is not imparted to the chord .
At this time, as the keyed bevel gear 68 is prevented from turning by the string itself, the sun gear 69 cannot turn and as the drive from the bevel gear 67 is continued, they are forced to turn. around the keyed bevel wheel 68 and at the same time rotate the cage 7-1 in which they are mounted, so that the weight 72 is lifted.
The remaining phases of <B>. </B> operation are exactly the same. than previously; the weight 72 is lifted, the coupling exhaust 25, 26 is released, the coupling 76 opens and the complete gear returns to the initial position, but the rope tension is maintained, as already specified. cified, by the exhaust 27 toothed from the intermediate shaft 10. 'In fig. 1 and 2, the drive of the gear can be produced by the operator, via a pedal, or by the mechanical energy received from an electric motor or by another means.
