Device for waterproof mounting of an unbreakable glass in its bezel. The subject of the invention is a device for the sealed assembly of an unbreakable glass in its bezel, for example a watch bezel.
To ensure as much as possible the airtightness of the assembly gasket of the lens mounted on the bezel, up to now, use has been made of gaskets, for example of rubber or of equivalent material and impermeable to humidity.
However, the use of such linings has not given satisfactory results, because the latter deteriorate rapidly and become ineffective in a short time.
The device which is the subject of the invention is, on the contrary, of long duration, since it does not require a seal. It is characterized in that the bezel has a groove made in the rim limiting its opening, the unbreakable glass being embedded by its periphery in said groove and having, for this purpose, on one of its faces, a puncture in the- which seals one of the lips of the groove, while the opposite lip is forced against the other side of the glass.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, in section and separated from one another, the unbreakable glass and the bezel; fig. 2 shows in section and on a larger scale, a detail of the assembly of said elements; fig. 3 shows in section, on the same scale as in FIG. 1, the two elements appeared to each other.
The bezel 4, of round shape, comprises a circular groove 5, having a rectangular transverse profile. This groove 5 is formed in the inner rim of the bezel, so that it is laterally limited by two thin lips 6, 6 'formed by said rim.
The lens 7, intended to be mounted in the groove 5 of the bezel, is formed by a flexible and relatively thin disc, made of transparent unbreakable and relatively elastic material, for example cellon or celluloid. However, it is important to know that glasses of this kind are already known in watchmaking.
The disc 7 is a little less thick than the width of the groove 5; on the other hand, its diameter is greater than the diameter of said groove.
In the outer face of the glass 7 is made a circular stitch 8.
The glass 7 is introduced in the curved state into the groove 5, using a machine suitable for this operation, so that it extends by its edge, due to its tension, up to at the bottom of the groove 5 and retains its domed state when it is mounted on the bezel (fig. 2 and 3).
To make the assembly gasket as much as possible impermeable to humidity and dust, the lower lip 6 of the bezel 4 is forced against the internal face of the glass, which has the effect that the opposite lip 6 'seals in puncture 8. Thus, the edge of the glass is strongly clamped between the two lips 6, 6 'of the bezel and, therefore, completely obstructs the groove 5. It should be noted that the puncture 8 could be provided on the inside of the glass; in this case, it is the lip 6 'which would be pushed back against the external face of the lens. However, the example shown is preferable for aesthetic reasons, since it is important that the visible face of the bezel is not damaged by the fitting of the lens.
